Hmmm looks a whole lot different than i expected :P I realize it'd be very hard to but I thought there would be more manipulation Also one example ... would it be possible to race to the finish like a regular TAS (don't finish), then start laying about bananas in a pattern that will result in the order you want/need? I believe this way the CPUs will arrive earlier due to the 'if you drive fast we drive fast' code? edit: Also, how about trying for a more equally distributed score? :D (I think the best possible is 12,12,12,9,9,9,9,4) edit2: oh actually you dont have to have 4.... so even low variance in the scores can be gotten with 12,10,10,9,9,9,9,8 edit3: ok wait i assumed 4 races instead of 5 :P let me re-do that edit4: so I think 13,12,12,12,12,12,12,10 is best? :D

Sounds like a really fun challenge, especially if you want to do it as fast as possible (i.e. still be a speedrun) good luck if anybody is giving it a go

Mine doesn't crash but it desynchs inside the engine room (before the first pause you do a 360 degree spin? and do a headshot, then you select the tracker bug (should be the defuser?)) btw If I can only watch through Silo without a desynch if i 'run in Administrator mode' for some reason..... don't we just love Vista this' all with Direct64 (0.5.03.25) video plugin.... where can I DL the ocrrect Rice plugin? :D good luck on the synch/crash issues :(

The part of silo that I can see looks very good :) however I get a desynch for some reason.... even if I watch the movie from the start without FstFwrd I don't have the right video plugin though... so that might be the problem? oh... while typing this I realized there's a youtube version :D looks awesome :) also, great investigation work on frigate man! the time on it will be shattered :D good luck making a route out of your info (wish I could help but i know close to nothing on frig)

Heh good to hear :) I think you should definitely try a 1pause strat if you know it can save time. Did you ever measure how much time a pause (including the un-pause) costs? Taking it to even more extremes.. how's about the possibility of a 3-plastiques-in-1-pause? :P I have close to zero knowledge about door/scientist/keycard manipulation... and clearly you couldn't use doorwarping. Just trying to help though ;) Hmm thinking about it... did anybody ever test what the allowed area is for the plastiques? *maybe* someone could open the ROM in some editor and have a look at the bounding boxes if they exist... Also I wouldn't be surprised if it possible to throw the plastiques out of the building from the highest point in a rocket-silo such that they land in the correct rooms?:x i'm on a crazy spree here ;)

Much of the problems with Vista is fixed in Windows 7. I'm using the beta right now and it's much faster (for me anyway). The only problem is that the sidebar still takes 5-10 sec to load every time I start Windows (I removed it).
is it also faster than XP?

wahey grats on making 54! reaction in a few mins :) edit: Hah absolutely awesome! boris definately looked as fast as possible, no doors to get stuck on, used backboost... only improvement I could see (yet not a full second) is boosting from exploding (ceiling) monitors (yeah I should've mentioned earlier but I only thought of it because you ran past some that were laying there) btw did anybody die because of the dropping monitors? :D

So, Carnaval is over (and was great) and only 1 weekend left in The Netherlands.... after which I'm off to Campinas, Brazil for 3 months here's a weblog you can watch while I'm there.... It's a dutch one but I'll try to put english translations at each post! Not sure if I'll be working on any TAS while there (e.g. finally finish Animaniacs :P) http://datel.waarbenjij.nu/

if you're in a high-effort spirit, for entertainment value you could try to kill a guard by making a monitor drop on top of (/next to) him :P either way good luck on the real bunker run edit: as a side-question, how' you feel if i had a go at Perfect Dark (from start)? I Never TAS'ed a 3D game and I think soon I'll have a bit of spare time plz be honest if you feel it's too complicated for a first 3D tas or if you want to finish your currently halted progress

Hmm might it be faster to keep facing the server-thingy after applying the datathief? (thus doing a backward-strafe run) you might be able to apply it from a bit further away (I'm not sure how far you've turned forward the moment it's applied in the test run) and not need to turn at all (just transit into a forward-strafe at the room's exit)

heh really nice setting the alarm yourself! :D I'm not sure why you shoot from cinematic tbh.... is it so you don't have to fire at the guards near boris? btw you could put some bullets into the crate earlier and only use a last shot to take a boost off of it at the end oh and it looked like you could start running earlier after applying the datathief, altough I'm convinced you didnt make that 'mistake'.... just looks that way (another approach might remove this appearance) great work! would be even more awesome if you could drop it a second ;)

cool vids... being a mario-TASing-noob, can the BLJ-speed be combined with kickjumping to make it up higher (though not sliding)? or get more speed by using the stairs more often perhaps

Yeah i tried the key thing once or twice myself on console, its an interresting idea for TAS though now that i think about it, juggle it outside of roof, somehow continue from there and make it land outside...That'd be the coolest trick ever :D Doubt you could hit it after it goes through roof though.
Hmm I tried juggling it for a bit and hitting it isn't the problem, however getting some control over it is From what I can tell, the direction it'll fly in is fixed for every frame (i.e. it doesn't matter where you shoot it, only when) Sometimes it does fly very far (~4 feet) but so far it was always in the wrong direction (away from bond) I was trying to make it pop through a window btw will try some more from inside the cabin (to see if it's possible)

Wow despite a lot of ground-watch that was an awesome run! definitely looks extremely optimized now :)

I sure did! one thing I tried non-TAS a while ago was to shoot the table/key in an attempt to get it to pop out of the cabin... which would eliminate the need to get a key for the cabin. I failed but I wasn't entirely convinced that it's impossible good luck on bunker!

I really like the idea of a tas app that automates the process finding/firing up the right emu etc.... however the biggest problem for me is usually getting the ROM, and that part can't be automated (legally speaking) Input display by using subtitle tracks would be great as well, though I don't know any of the details with absolutely no experience... it sounds easy to get things synced: render movie to target video and find resulting movie duration D (also find offsets for logo display etc) then for every frame N out of total T; display the input starting at time stamp D*N/T until D*(N+1)/T if this approach is way too simple and causes desyncs then.... sorry, it's the first thing that came to mind :D
