The HD encode is nearly ready, it's just processing now.

edit: I forgot to add subtitles! :)
I've already fixed that, but now I have to reupload the movie to Youtube. This one will stay online, I'll just replace the link when it's up.
edit: video now has proper subtitles.

I had never heard of this game so I went to Youtube, and then I found you actually already made an encode for it too:

edit: sorry, apparently this is an earlier version of the run.

Yeah, if you want to use the glitch you're welcome to. It's not required, of course.
I'm pretty certain the run won't sync under a different version. Even an extremely minor difference in what comes out of the random number generators will cause a desync. If anyone wants, I'll still check but I'd need to know what the game's ID is (current one is SLUS-01251).

Yeah, when Morimoto realized that people thought he was playing it in real time, he wrote up an explanation of what a TAS is, apologizing in advance for potentially disappointing people.
People took this to mean he "admitted to cheating" and proceeded to galvanize him for it.

I just started uploading, and after that it'll be processing for a while, so I expect it to be up in about 4-5 hours from now.
edit: finished uploading... now processing.
edit: it's up. unfortunately it doesn't seem to be in original/1080p, that's what I was going for.
edit: looks like Youtube did process the video in 1080p/original after all!

Thanks, I just managed to get it to work. The ambient sounds are pretty badly emulated, all at 100% volume even though the volume should be much lower. Hopefully someone can fix that before you're done, just like the SPU was improved for FF8. :)

That's a great trick. I'm guessing you have to be frame precise? By the way, could you post your movie file? I'd love to make a WIP encode of your progress so far (and I see you have a 15 minute limit on your account).

I'm pretty sure this is a tongue-in-cheek comment but yeah this is a different thing entirely because it's an internal matter. The damning thing about SDA trying to dictate how we name our runs is that they're a different community entirely, yet they (meaning: the few people who cared about this) believed they had some kind of moral authority to tell us how to handle our affairs.
So to take your comparison here, it'd be as if we were not just rejecting the movies from this site, but also actively working to try and get them off of Youtube, or other sites they may appear on.

Google has great products but virtually no good platforms. Those that do exist can be killed off at any moment. It may be above my pay grade to criticize the most successful internet company in the world, but I wish they'd undergo a shift in thinking here. It's exactly why Google Plus is incapable of overtaking Facebook too.
Yeah I saw that a few days ago, along with a video that shows a trick to avoid getting hit by Puck at the beginning of Alexandria which made me start again to save those 400ish frames.
That's a very nice find. :)
edit: just curious, could you link to that video?
Just dropping my 2¢ here, this topic is absolutely worth reading all the way through even though it's pretty long. I actually thought of this topic but didn't remember where to find it. It's a perfect time capsule that shows how the debate went in those days.

Oh, and there was a continuous war between speedrunners and TASers because they felt it was cheating (willing to bet that's still going on to a lesser extent).
Thankfully that's pretty much all in the past now. I think I can safely say it was a rather silly argument sparked mostly by a few puerile speedrunners whose enormous egos could not handle the limelight being stolen away from them. A vocal minority, bolstered by the fact that it found support in some of the SDA oldbies. The majority of the speedrunning community never really cared too much about the argument.

They were also called "superplays" for some time. Probably imported from the Japanese community as well. I rather liked that term, actually. Distinct and still accurate.
Minor note: Doom runs were called "tools-assisted speedruns" but the one who came up with that name (Yonatan Donner) actually admitted shortly afterwards that "tool-assisted speedruns" would be better, but he didn't feel like redoing the logo. :)
You can actually still find that old post on the Internet Archive, near the bottom of this page: http://web.archive.org/web/19990909041821/http://doomworld.com/tas/

I love this guy's music. A friend of mine who composes for video games is also a fan of his, I'll ask him if he has any questions.
edit: he asks:
Q: which is your favorite chip to work with and which was the hardest to get into?
Q: what do you think of current game music, and how does it differ from the Amiga music you made?

I don't own too many games. Only PC/Mac and PSX games. The few PS2 games I bought were given away to my sister. So I have about 40 PSX games and maybe 20 PC games, most of them in big box.

I have an Android phone too actually, a HTC Desire :)
Apple isn't perfect and there are a lot of valid criticisms you can make about the company and the products, but I think it's interesting to look back at the developments they made, mostly starting back in the 80s, and how it impacted the whole idea of what personal computers are. Steve Jobs wasn't the only innovator, and there are lots of other people to thank for making computing accessible, but his work did mark a shift in thinking at a time when computers were still thought of as tools for scientists.

That wasn't very uncommon back in the late 80s and very early 90s. Maybe CPU throttled applications were simply easier to make, and the setting is, like you say, there to allow people to set the speed to something comfortable.
