Ilari mentioned Hexen on IRC. To anyone who's thinking about running this, you might want to take a look at Cacodemon Leader's Cleric Skill 3 run. Link to video ps: It looks better in 720p, but I'm actually going to upload a much better quality version later. After I get Chrono Trigger online that is... This is the best full game speedrun I know of. It was only available in DEM format before I rendered it (mainly because there's no native AVI recording in that old version of ZDoom). The skip that you see in Heresiarch's Seminary can be performed in regular Hexen, but it's supposedly very difficult. It probably shouldn't be a big deal for a TAS, but this other trick I discovered might be better: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-7frW3vMfU

The "about" text is cut off by just a few words (ends with "are..."). Maybe you should make it just slightly shorter like this: "Official TASVideos Facebook page. When human skills are just not enough."

Very nice, we should advertise this on the site and automatically post site updates there too.

You need some kind of server-side support to be able to do this. It's not a client-side issue, since JWPlayer supports seeking, if the server has that ability. Sorry I can't give you any specifics. I was once going to look into this because I was working on a Flash video player similar to JWPlayer, but the project was put on hold before this became an issue. I would find it very likely that there's some module you can install for whatever httpd you're using that will easily make this possible.

Oh, in that case nevermind. :) edit: if I figure out how to fix the speed issue (or at least exhaust all possibilities; maybe a slightly shorter encode is acceptable for now, given the fact that this might not be possible to fix without seriously modifying the emulator or PEOpS plugin), I'll make an SD encode too, if necessary.

That must be incredibly tedious. That's actually the same thing I went through when I made a brief test of FF3j for NES, for every single battle. I can't imagine how much time pirohiko must have spent to get his battles right when he made the full run.

By the way Mukki, since you claimed this run for encoding, you might want to take a look at http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11129 In short, I've had problems encoding this run for Youtube. Encoding in PEOpS apparently causes lag frames to disappear, resulting in a faster encode. Let me know if you find some other way to fix this and get a proper encode, so that I can fix the Youtube version.

Lil_Gecko, could you send me your movie file? I presume you're using the NTSC version (a CD-ROM version identifier would be nice)? I'd like to give this a try to see if I get the same result and if I can fix it. Also, I presume you're using PSXjin?

I mostly hate Sony for not making those spectacular FW900 monitors anymore. I'm sure lots of designers and photographers would love to pay premium for a tiny production line. Actually, that's not true, I hate Sony for a whole range of different reasons, and I didn't even know about some of the things DarkKobold just mentioned. They're hardly special in that regard, though. It's understandable. Companies are required to make profit; being absolutely terrible in every way is usually a great way to achieve that.

Normality for PC is an awesome 3D adventure game by Gremlin that almost nobody knows about these days. It's one of the first games I ever bought (unfortunately I lost the box). Time Slip for PSX is a neat platformer game for Net Yaroze that uses time travel as a gameplay device. Every two minutes or so your character is duplicated, and the duplicate will retrace your steps exactly (you have to be careful not to get it killed or otherwise disturbed to avoid creating a paradox).

Chrono Trigger has been uploaded 100%, but it's still processing. It should show up soon enough: Link to video EDIT: minor update, as you can see this movie never finished processing. I'm going to upload a slightly smaller version that might have better luck. It will come online eventually. EDIT: I've uploaded a smaller version of this run but it hasn't processed yet.

No, it's not, even the ending sequence is there. Some parts of the encode seems to play slightly faster than the emulator though.
You're right, I hadn't noticed this before, but my encode is faster than it's supposed to be. I suppose this is because of this. In short: kkapture requires an unrestrained FPS (otherwise, apparently, it locks up). That works fine with the TAS Soft plugin, but not with the P.E.Op.S. Soft Driver 1.4. Maybe the gameplay itself is at the right speed, but all loading screens and other duplicate frames have been compressed down to one? That might make sense. Hmm. Not sure how to fix this one. I thought the gameplay would have had the correct speed. Someone who has worked on PCSX or PSXjin should give us some advice.

I've been having some (now fixed) internet problems so the run is slightly delayed, but it should be up tonight (in about 14 hours). Sorry that it takes so long, but it's a rather large HD encode and I'm also still uploading Chrono Trigger, so that's why. PS: it's a really good run, resounding yes vote from me. edit: Upload has finished, it's currently processing but it should become available soon enough. Link to video

Claiming HD encode for Youtube since it's already done and just needs to finish uploading. PS, to those who are going to make an SD encode: you need to use P.E.Op.S. Soft Driver 1.4 to encode the gameplay to avoid massive graphics glitches. Because this causes MDECs to play back too fast, I recommend recording the intro logos and the end sequence with the TAS Soft Graphics Plugin and then splicing them together. The resolution is 368x240.

The proper encode is nearly done, will start uploading it hopefully tomorrow. :) Hope to see your submission pop up soon. BTW, the final version looks absolutely great. edit: uploading now...

Thanks for throwing all reasons for redundancy out the window.
Redundancy is good, but Youtube is up more often than TASVideos is, and we already have an Internet Archive link for most if not all of these, I think. So I don't think that outweighs putting a low-quality mirror among regular SD and HD encodes. I don't really care too much either way, though. If they need to be put back then that's fine. By the way, as far as I can tell, only 450M (Chrono Trigger) and 506M (Wario Land 4) have yet to receive a HD version. I'm still uploading 450M, it'll probably finish in two days or something since my internet is still being awful. :( Is anybody working on 506M?

Google Video sucks anyway, the quality is abysmal. Better let people use the Youtube version and optionally switch to 240p if they need to.

Ah, I get it now. The reason why using 200FPS is recommended is because it works, but only with the TAS Soft Graphics Plugin. It doesn't work with P.E.Op.S. Soft Driver (it needs to be used in this case to avoid major graphics glitches). It's simply not possible to set a framerate limit. I guess, since there are so few actual FMVs in this game (only the intro and ending if I'm right, since everything else can be skipped and will be only one frame regardless) I can just record those with the TAS Soft Driver plugin, and then record everything else with P.E.Op.S. since it seems to work for all non-FMV data.

I seem to have some problems getting PCSX/kkapture to cooperate. Hopefully I'll have this fixed soon. EDIT: it's too bad you don't use Shrykull's power at the end though.

Hi there. I'm trying to record Dooty's Abe's Oddysee run. At first, everything worked fine and I was able to record the entire run in a few hours' time. Then I realized I had to redo the encode because setting the max FPS to 200 doesn't work very well (it was actually a recommendation from the official guide, but the FMVs were messed up and playing way too fast). So I deleted the files and then went back to try again. I reset the size to 368x240 and 1:1 to get a better image (previously I had tried with 640x480 at 1:1 to be on the safe side, so that I could crop it later), and tried again. However, then suddenly I couldn't record anymore. I don't know why. PCSX just sits there doing nothing while taking up 99% CPU time. It seems to record some blank frames but only a few and very slowly. I went back and changed the settings to 640x480 and 200 FPS but it didn't help. And yes, if I just play back the movie file in PCSX without recording, it works fine. I'm using P.E.Op.S. Soft Driver 1.4, the SCPH1001.bin BIOS and default plugins for everything else. Here's the log from kkapture (ends due to me closing PCSX after a while):

Hmm... not sure about that. They said they've "eliminated the April 29 deadline". That might as well mean they're giving the community a few more months, rather than keeping the site online indefinitely.
