This is why mods should be able to ban people. Some just persistently keep on ignoring the rules as well as the explanation of why it is we "cheat". We don't actually cheat; what we do is in a different category than cheating, and we constantly remind people of the fact that we, in fact, aren't playing these games in real-time. If you will look at our website, you'll find that you're constantly reminded of the fact that these runs are made using slowdowns and save states. What I want to say is: please be reasonable. And don't misuse the forums with this nonsense. This is for off-topic chatter, not for spamming complaints.

Yeah, I've seen this on another forum, too. I paid cold hard cash for that program, too! On a sidenote, I've yet to see anyone make actual good art with that program. Natural landscapes is the last thing I'd use it for, to be honest; I use it to make bases for large abstract visuals. EDIT: by the way, I recommend Vue d'Esprit 6 in case it is natural landscapes that you want to make (with relative ease).

Tsh. You're just jealous, aren't you! Please read this wikipage: http://tasvideos.org/WhyAndHow.html. Until you understand how we roll, there's no reason to criticize us.

I'm also against bisqettes. I mean, we've got CDs and various other high-density optic storage media now, so why should some software still be crammed onto those little 3½-inch bisqettes?

That is true. But eventually, Go might be solved as well. The ways they use for calculating when the processing power will be sufficient enough in order to do definitely holds no certainty, because it assumes no new inventions in the field of computing will be brought.

Funny you guys should mention it like this. It reminds me of the "brute force versus strategy" discussion in regards to computer chess. For long, it was believed that brute force would be completely impractical, and that strategic decisions were the best way of creating a viable computer opponent. Of course, as you can see, it was brute force that won in the end. Perhaps this sort of computing power will be available in the future!

Um, let me point out this, some of the people that were complaining about it where the people that actually made the TASes and you have no right to tell them what to do, its there work. They have the freedom to do what they want. ANd for proof, JXQ has succeeded. Furthermore,I think everyone that makes the TAS's and the fans that enjoy them are the official spokespeople for the site. Can't expect Bisqwit to do everything, can't leave everything to Bisqwit, everyone needs to step out and give a helping hand. Not saying Bisqwit couldn't do everything lol, just saying when people help out I bet he appreciates it. Team work is important. Plus I do agree with you people shouldn't go out flamming like crazy.
I felt that this complaining was pretty close to just flaming someone. Which isn't too unfair, given the fact he plagiarized, but I'd still personally not want my site to be associated with immature bashing in order to get things done. This is an excellent community, and I'd like it to remain as such. But in the end, it wasn't all that bad anyway.

pirate_sephiroth, you were banned for spamming illegal material. That is a legitimate reason. You'll likely be unbanned after a while, but it's up to DeHackEd, as he was the one who decided to ban you. Complaining here is not a good idea.

Thanks for asking whether it's allowed. However, there's consensus that graphical signatures should not be allowed. The reasoning differs per person, but it's generally considered to be distracting. For this reason, avatars are also limited in size (dimensions and filesize) and smilies are disabled.

[8:01pm] AnotherGamer: I meant why he changed his name to msikma [8:01pm] AnotherGamer: I thought omeg was a better name [8:07pm] msikma: Hi AnotherGamer [8:07pm] Bablo: michiel sikma = msikma [8:07pm] msikma: Also yeah, that's it [8:07pm] Bablo: i would be akanerva [8:07pm] Bablo: or akane in short :p [8:07pm] msikma: Woah [8:07pm] msikma: That sounds awesome, man. [8:08pm] msikma: Akanerva. That sounds like a next-generation Arkanoid clone.
Akanerva is probably one of the greatest names ever. When I think about it, I can't help but imagine that it could very well be the name of a next-generation Arkanoid clone. So what kind of game do you think that "Akanerva" could be the name of?

It would be kind of cool to have such a DVD, though. Just one DVD that shows some of our best work which people can download if they like to. And a corresponding normal AVI should be present as well, of course. I'm going to look into it at some point, but don't expect any results anytime soon...

If they're willing to go through the trouble of re-encoding a movie to be able to upload it without the TASVideos notices, they'd likely be willing to download the movie files as well. How many times has this happened before, anyway?

I expected more worthwhile discussion about the encoding settings for such a DVD, seen as how this topic has four pages. I do think that it would be kind of cool to seed/Archive.org a DVD with a selection of great runs. Maybe I need to try and experiment with it to see how it goes.

Well, it should be able to play them. I remember that whenever I recorded a movie, it then wouldn't play it back after I was done until I restarted it.

I just downloaded all the new movies and organized them, giving them proper filenames and such. I haven't been able to watch them all yet because Nitsuja's FCEU is a piece of junk and just plain broke the movie playback dialog. It now simply randomly refuses to play some movie files, giving a greyed out dialog with only the "This ROM's MD5" box filled. That never happened with the old builds (but the problem wasn't so bad before, I haven't used it in a long time). So hopefully I'll get that fixed tonight. Maybe I'll start using an older version if it persists. EDIT: Here's a quick update: Easy difficulty:
  • Air man: 01:53 (Bablo)
  • Quick man: 01:44 (Omega)
  • Flash man: 01:28 (Bablo)
  • Metal man: 01:27 (Bablo)
  • Bubble man: 01:43 (Bablo)
  • Heat man: 01:50 (Omega)
  • Crash man: 01:56 (Bablo)
  • Wood man: 01:57 (Bablo)

You need to buy an English Windows XP if you want to have it in English. If you don't like it, you can switch to Linux; Ubuntu Linux, for example, has good support for different languages. All it requires is setting the right option and then logging in again.

Well, he could always use Telnet... EDIT: well, I guess that's impossible if he can't even connect.

By the way, I'm out of the race! My sound quality was below acceptable. Bisqwit says that this is because of buggy emulator code. He himself was able to fix it, so his AVI should be of much better quality. Last I heard, he almost had a lossless AVI almost ready, so I think it won't take much longer.

Bisqwit and I are both rapidly moving towards the end of this movie with equal rendering quality. Who will prevail?

You can't boss people around , if fans stick up for Bisqwit that is good.
It's not my intention to "boss people around", but rather to remind them that it isn't always desirable to start flaming away when it is found that someone plagiarized material found on TASVideos.

During the first capturing pass, I managed to render 3 GB of 640x480 video (with 6x FSAA). I don't see why so many people were having problems encoding files this large in Mupen 64; arguably, the file didn't have an index block and had to be fixed before it could be used by any media player, but it still works. I'll capture the rest tomorrow, and then I'll encode it to H.264.

Personally, I'm surprised anyone would make a Wikipedia page for Mario Adventure. It doesn't really belong there.
It does, actually. It's a pretty important ROM hack. It has gained media attention, and this warrants encyclopedic inclusion.
