If you have tips on how to more properly utilize the MP4 container, then I'd like to try them. I'll see if I can encode AAC audio with this compiled version of MEncoder...

They don't seem that different to me using my default encoding procedures.

To those who are interested, I've mirrored the file on the Internet Archive along with three re-encodes (at normal quality, which is comparable to Bisqwit's encode, which is 26 MB, low quality, which is 16 MB, and high quality, which is 134 MB). It can be found here: http://www.archive.org/details/megaman-tasv8-bisqwit-angerfist

Oh, interesting. Could have been one or two frames faster with more accurate timing on that last jump where you grab the power ball. Great work.

I really should have replied here earlier. I just watched the movie, and what can I say? It exceeds my expectations, even though I watched pretty much every movie in the Mega Man discussion topic. Rockman v6 was the best example of a tool-assisted speedrun, and this version is nothing less. There is really nothing to criticize!

I don't really see what you're trying to say, FractalFusion. Sure, this is a forum dedicated to tool-assisted speedrunning, but this is an unassisted speedrun that doesn't really have to do anything with what we do. He's not implying that it does. It's just linkage to something the people here might like.

Wow, awesome! I'm definitely checking this out tomorrow (about to go to sleep). I didn't fully sit through the first one, but I expect this to be very good. You should consider putting it on the Internet Archive for good measure, too, since my experience is that a lot of hosts go down after a few years. EDIT: it seems that the forum software ate up your links. They're trimmed with dots in the middle.

I guess I'll just slowly read my way through this and make note of it if anything is possible to use. Japanese-savvy members's help would also be appreciated, though. :) EDIT: I think that this one is talking about using an Otterhead in the first cave... machine-assisted translation isn't very effective on this page. http://xb-lim2.hp.infoseek.co.jp/ff3/old/fc/openingtobasi.htm EDIT 2: now that I think about it, you might be able to use the Onion Kid glitch to level an item up to Otterhead! EDIT 3: I'll try out some of the stuff that's mentioned there. However, since I don't have much time tonight, I've tried a very short one for now. Steps towards an encounter are saved in a save game (this isn't a glitch, just something they noted on a page on which they're seemingly explaining how the random encounters in the game work). http://omega.avalanchestudios.net/personal/dropbox/garuda/steps-saved.avi

Wow! I just started reading this, but it seems that he's saying you should start up the game with the cartridge half in so not all the pins connect properly (in the part about 99 hits).
つかこの電源入れたままカセット抜き差しは危険です。 ハード壊れてもなんかトラブル掟も責任は持てないので 真似しない方がいいですよぉ。
A machine-assisted translation seems to imply that he's telling the reader here that you must watch out to not shock yourself while removing and reinserting the cartridge, and that this works best with an authentic cartridge that is in good shape.
実際に与えるダメージは通常と変わらないみたいだし。
Again, with the help of Babelfish, this seems to read that the damage isn't different from normal, but that just the counter is different.

My friend and I were once able set up a Quake deathmatch while drunk. I don't have the demo anymore, but it was awesome to see afterwards, me constantly trying to push into walls and wondering why I couldn't walk anymore, as well as me grabbing the quad and then proceeding to make the secret door's life a living hell because I thought he was an opponent. I'd like to play Sim City 2000 while drunk once. I wonder what kind of city I'd make.

I think the ads as they are right now look great, by the way. It's hard to notice they're there at first sight.

Some suggestions for integration of the ads: make the grey bar (now #a0a0a0) the same color as its background (#dddddd). Make the font sans-serif, like the rest of your site (it seems to be hardcoded to Arial now?) and center it. Getting rid of the additional color green (#008000) might also help a lot.

Well, for starters, I'm glad that they're Google ads rather than DOWNLOAD THE NEXT-GEN SMILIES HERE Flash banners. Google ads are easy to integrate into the site without making it too obtrusive. It's mostly the lack of consistency that ads bring that bother me. Vitaly Friedman said some good things about ads on his blog entry called "20 Rules Of Smart And Successful Web-development": "Disturbing ad blocks might improve your ad revenue for a while, but in a long run they won’t make your web-site successful. In fact, you won’t gain respect and explore the potential you and your projects might have. However, ads perfectly combined with the main content and placed well in the structure of the site (i.e. devblog.de) don’t disturb. Furthermore, thus both reputation points and ad revenue points are guaranteed." The example he cites, http://www.devblog.de/, indeed has brilliantly integrating Google ads. I think that your use of Google ads can still be customized a little bit more to fit in even better. Once it's settled, I personally won't have a problem with it. Sure, I'd rather not have advertisements, and it kind of does violate the whole "do not post these movies on commercial sites" thing, but the Web isn't for free and if this is what it's going to be, then so be it. :)

I'm a (somewhat) active Wikipedia contributor. I edit various articles, mostly related to technology and games. There's one article that I've edited extensively, which is the Speedrun article that I want to bring up to featured article status (but isn't quite there yet; see the discussion page in case you want to help out!) So what about you guys? I know there are some active contributors, but where can I find your userpages? Let's keep a list of the editors that also visit this site.

I think that we should keep in mind that a discussion about a run is much more important than a poll. We could make the poll more elaborate, but at the end of the day, it's always going to be more abstract and less clear to the intentions of the voters than their actual responses in the topic. If you really like a movie, but wouldn't like to see it published for some reason (or, most likely, the other way around), you can say so in a post, and in that case you'll be able to much more concisely say what you mean and for what reasons. I don't really think that it's necessary to introduce a new poll question.

It should have. Apple produced the H.264 codec, and the x264 codec has major contributions by Apple employees. One of the selling points of Mac OS X 10.4 was Quicktime's new killer codec.

I guess that's what hours upon hours of frame advancing past Goblins will do to you.

Looks like I'm a little late. I had some encoding problems. But here it is, to those interested: an AVI of the Final Fantasy III FEOK run (v2).

I was just done making the temporary AVI of the first one. :) I guess I'll delete it and start encoding this new version, then. Going to watch it now.

The speed with which you're churning out updates is pretty amazing. I find FF3j speedrunning incredibly frustrating (but maybe I should just focus less on things such as luck manipulation, which seems to be next to useless in this game).

Get ffdshow from http://x264.nl/ and then the videos will work in most players.

This is amazing. I'm glad that someone else besides me is interested in this game, and that the other person is actually actively working on his run. I'm going to encode this to AVI since it's useful to be able to check what you did every now and then for my own run planning. I'll put it in the Archive when it's finished.

I guess that the test has succeeded once again. You're forgiven for your topic earlier, so now go out and post in real topics, please. :)

Please don't use the forums for testing purposes. If you really need to test, try making a real response somewhere. Locked.

I can understand that you might find Mega Man 5 more interesting than Mega Man 1, but I think that if either of the first two in the series should have a star, it should be the first. The main reason is the fact that it just looks a whole lot smoother, most notably due to the select button glitch. Mega Man 2 has a lot of "ugly" hits, and add to that the fact that its physics engine isn't as abusable as in the first. I still think that the first Mega Man should have a star. On the subject of Sonic 2 versus Sonic 3, I've posted about that one before, so let me copypaste my old post here: Reasons for Sonic 3 to deserve the star: - Run quality very high; the obsoleted version was amazingly impressive, and this one goes beyond the old. - Uses an interesting glitch. - Stylistically pleasing run (SprintGod does a better job at entertaining us at times when he is unable to progress). - Uses Sonic's special powerups very nicely. - Aesthetically pleasing game (in any case more than Sonic 2). Reasons for Sonic 2 to deserve the star: - Run quality very high; Sonic's speed is at its top level in the first levels of this run. - Finishes faster than SprintGod--run is therefore shorter in both length and filesize. - Uses what appears to be a wall omission glitch in Oil Ocean zone 2. However, some reasons why I doubt that Sonic 2 would be best off having a star: - Tails is in this run, and he's completely useless. He even gets hit a couple of times even though this has no effect on the game. This isn't desirable. It's less "clean" than the Sonic 3 run. - At times, it would have been better for Quietust to have waited a few time units before finishing the level in order to get a lower input time. This run isn't as optimized as Sonic 3 is, because Sonic 3 doesn't suffer from these situations. - The sky scene is REALLY boring. - Knuckles isn't present in this run.
