What's going on there is pretty terrible, but at the same time it's awful to see so many people rallying behind an organization that advocates aggressive military intervention through a different faction that also has a longstanding history of child abuse. And in doing so asks for donations despite not being primarily focused on spending that money on their supposed cause. Here are some important links to read for those who want to know more: http://innovateafrica.tumblr.com/post/18897981642/you-dont-have-my-vote http://visiblechildren.tumblr.com http://www.amnestyusa.org/our-work/countries/africa/uganda http://texasinafrica.blogspot.com/2009/05/what-causes-badvocacy.html http://www.iol.co.za/news/africa/thousands-displaced-by-rebel-raids-in-drc-1.1250404 http://blogs.independent.co.uk/2012/03/07/stop-kony-yes-but-dont-stop-asking-questions/ http://toastmeister.tumblr.com/post/18939999745/blade-of-reason-ladyatheist-why-cant-we http://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2012/03/the-soft-bigotry-of-kony-2012/254194/ http://blackridinhood.tumblr.com/post/18952400670/kony-2012-has-ugandan-people-outraged What also seems to be forgotten here is that in late 2011, Obama ordered soldiers into Uganda almost immediately after it had been found to be the site of the largest onshore oil discovery in sub-Saharan Africa in more than two decades. That sort of shows you the proper context in which to see this. If you want to help the people in these countries, and it's very important that we do, I suggest you donate to a more reputable organization such as Unicef or War Child. Picking a side between two more or less equally terrible armies and escalating the conflict is not the right thing to do.

This is sort of a moot discussion anyway since it doesn't work on psxjin.

@Tub : About adding subtitles, I think Dada mentionned once he was willing to do it when the movie's done so if he's still up for it, yeah sure.
My idea was that we could do sort of a live commentary, where you just chat on a special IRC channel while watching the movie on e.g. youtube, then I'll grab the IRC log and transform your text into a subtitle file. Since 7 hours is a bit long maybe we can do it in parts, like per disc. Would save a lot of time since it's a bit of a pain to make a subtitle file from scratch and this movie is just too long. Then I can do some manual editing where required to make sure the timings work well.

Is that trick even possible on psxjin? Anyhow, it's a good thing you don't use it. Even if it's possible to save some more time, this is a good tradeoff.

Nice! Glad to see this is finished. :) Will start working on the HD encode.

Can't wait to start encoding this. :) You put a lot of effort in this run and went back to fix a whole bunch of things, so I don't doubt the final run will be really high quality.

Maybe you could change the graphics to Low on the first level so that there's no field of vision effect. And then turn it to Pentium later (currently it's just set to High, e.g. clouds aren't transparent).

Tyrian runs at full speed on a 386, supposedly (with graphics set to the lowest setting).

I don't program Java, but I'm interested in hearing what sort of work you guys do. Application development I'm guessing, mostly web-based?

Come on now, everything is a she to you! Although I've never played Raptor, I'm a big fan of Tyrian, so I fully support this endeavor. :)

I personally would have simply split the offending posts off into a separate topic. Bit unfortunate to have a published run with locked topic under the "discuss this run" link.

Interesting, will make a Youtube HD encode for this in the weekend.

Actually, I don't fault Swordless Link for just going ahead and making the run without consulting the community first. We tend to be very conservative with regard to these rules, so I don't doubt that the answer would have been a flat "no". To me, this is a bold reminder that we need to work towards being more laissez-faire, because if some people had their way we'd be throwing away a perfectly good run sporting a 35 minute improvement over the old. Based on a rule that really isn't so important when you really think about what it does.

I really hate the fact that people are being so disrespectful towards Swordless Link. He really didn't change the language just to spite people. We've got a very varied and international audience, so we should really be language-agnostic. It's generally a good idea to stick to the same language when improving runs, that's true, but we shouldn't fuss so much when runners make a good case for making the switch. Let's not forget that the old run got improved by ~35 minutes, that should really be the main thrust of this discussion.

As I've said on IRC, it's perfectly legitimate to switch versions if there's a good argument to be made for it, and if the new run actually improves on the old in ways other than just version differences. This run is 47 minutes fast than the old run, and the amount of time gained by switching versions is about 12 minutes at most. Apparently there's really no difference between the two versions aside from text, anyway.

I don't see why there are so many Yes votes. This movie breaks the site rules by entering a cheat code, and it isn't going to be accepted.
It's a joke submission. It's a two-frame movie file submitted as a "100%" run. I don't get why there's a serious discussion at all, it seems pretty obvious to me.

Not only does it use cheat codes
"Cheat code" implies external help. It's something that the devs left in the game, so it's more-or-less valid in that regard.
Cheat codes aren't exclusively activated though poking values into the RAM using something like a Gameshark, by the way. Like the Konami Code being one well-known example. Particularly PC games have a lot that can be accessed via simply typing things in. A TAS of Warcraft II for DOS could be a lot faster if you used the fast building cheat, for example. Those should be considered invalid too. Just like this trick.

People who say it's not interesting enough miss the point that this is supposed to be a joke.

Well, there's a difference. This one can be called up immediately through a specialized input combination. You even need to use both controllers to do it. The one in Earthbound isn't meant to be usable at all, meaning the player has to go through quite a lot of trouble (and regular input) to access it. So it's a legitimate glitch. If you can somehow access a debug mode or even warp to the closing credits using a memory manipulation method, it's fine. If it's a secret key combination then it's against the rules. (This hasn't really ever come up before, though, since I don't think movies like this one have ever been submitted before. It's not very clearly defined in the rules, I'll give you that. This is just what I think the spirit of the rules imply.)

Nice ;) Particularly given the recent trend of discovering "straight-to-credits" glitches. Of course, this uses a debugging mode that's against the rules, but it's amusing anyhow. You can watch it on Nicovideo: http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm17067681

I've only played the Chrome version of Angry Birds, but there's no luck manipulation necessary, is there? Just shoot birds in the right direction at the right speed and everything should work out.

I'd still really like to fix the encode for MGS, since apparently I'm using an old version of psxjin (svn0), but I can't seem to find the latest version.

Great work, absolute yes vote. What was it like dealing with JPC-RR? I heard it's not the easiest to deal with (I've used it a long time ago, dunno how much it changed since then).
