Yeah, a lot can go wrong with on the bot's side of things. For instance, my bot's plug into the controller port is somewhat loose and it looses connection from time to time. Based on our current technology a desync doesn't really leave you with any indication that this tas can not be done on real hardware.
This said, there are quite a few runs that desync 100% of the time at a very specific spot, and the runs could be modified to sync (Mega Man 5, Bionic Commando, Little Mermaid, Duck Tales ... I just realized, these are all Capcom titles...) This is more the situation I'm referring to. This isn't for complete lack of sync-age, more just 'close to, but not quite syncing' This is clearly not a problem with the connection, or the way the NESbot is made, as far as I can tell. It is a problem between the emulator and the console. This is the situation where I'd prefer the run sync on the console. Also, I was in the process of modifying Bionic Commando's NESbot file to sync. I'm 100% sure with enough time and effort, it could be made to sync.

Hypothetical situation, by Zeupar. You are creating a TAS for NES game X, which has never had a published TAS. You are also working with a person who has an NESbot. Now, your run will console verify if you waste say.... 100 frames throughout the run. However, it is now 100 frames slower than the input file could be, if just played in FCEUX. Which would you (the TAS community) rather see? The fastest file in FCEUX, or the fastest sync-able TAS on an NES? I'm on the fence, myself. (Note, I set up this scenario to specifically not cover a movie that is already published, as that is a whole can of worms I don't want to argue.)

I still vehemently believe that Mario is a way better mascot than Sonic though
Thinking about it logically, it actually doesn't make much sense.
Without a defined metric as to what makes one mascot better than another, it is just an opinion, and opinions are like assholes, etc. What makes one mascot better than another? Marketability? (Even then, how would this be measured? Number of extraneous items that the character appears on? Pure # of sales for main titles?) Number of games starred in? I really can't think of anything else. Honestly, I doubt the quality of the mascots in question has much to do with a game beyond brand recognition. These days, Mario is most likely a stronger brand, just due to the number of poorly received Sonic games over the past few years. However, those likely have little to do with the actual character at the helm, and more to do with the gameplay design decisions. As far as I know, most games staring Mario have done far better with reviewers recently.

Moot because that did not happen. No he wouldn't be stealing, I would have expected tasvideos to still honor me because I got it first. Of course that view has changed.
We can't "honor" you if you won't submit. You cry for fairness, and yet expect to be granted an exception to the rules. Hypocrisy. We won't bend the rules for you, especially since you won't even explain why you didn't submit. Case closed.

gia, you keep calling it your movie. It wasn't your movie. It was p4wn3rs. It just repeated what you did.
The claim that I could have forged my run is ridiculous, how did I forged it so well it outputs the same as p4wn3rs run submitted much later?
Well, how the hell would we have known that until AFTER p4wn3r submitted his. Your logic is astoundingly poor.

Once again, this is a technique. p4wn3r still created the input file.

As I said that's a limitation on your site, nothing prevents you from linking to external records. You choose not to.
Its part of the RULES of the site. We have to have the input file to verify the TAS, so we know it is legitimate. See the Mario 64 debacle, when someone dropped frames from a youtube file. We aren't going to change how this site operates because you are being a piss ant.

TASVideos is about tasing but tasing is not TASVideos, I can make a tas run and publish it on youtube if I decide to, that's my decision, and I did, I did not put up a strategy video, I released it as a tas. I will not give you my reasons for not submitting my run to this site, as you shouldn't require it to be fair to me, sure I did not submit my run here but you never know what happens in the future, this or another runs could.
Yes, you have the right not to submit. However, don't throw a hissy fit when someone uses your TECHNIQUE to create THEIR OWN input file, and submit that.
The first tas ever was not submitted to your site either, if I recall correctly the history of tasing. Not submitting to your site does not make my tas illegitimate, it's like saying a record isn't legitimate because Guiness didn't approve it, or a speedrun record because SDA doesn't have it. All of you are smart enough to know this, as such you reveal to me your intentions.
Uh, SDA doesn't hold records that aren't submitted to it, same with Guiness. p4wn3r did submit HIS FILE here, so yes, that is the record here.

Have you improved my run? The fact I didn't submit is one hundred percent because I DID NOT WANT IT SUBMITTED here. You had it easy to replicate my run it was no accomplishment, I gave everyone the recipe to do it on my comments and what input I used was clearly visible to whoever watched the video. If you have indeed improved my run completely disregard this post please, I am extremely sorry, I just saw the time listed by the agent and it matches mine and I'm now raging. Now regardless of what whatever player, user, mod, judge or admin says in the end and whatever you guys end up doing with this submission I want to emphasize my first paragraph. This is really outrageous to me. I do not want you to be granted the authorship of my improvement, I do not want to be marked as coauthor, sole author, or whatever and I do not want tasvideos to publish it. The same goes to whoever decides to post this submission or my video posted on youtube on their own channel. Have some morals or whatever the word is.
So, let me get this straight. p4wn3r replicated your strategy via youtube. This isn't copying input, it is copying a strategy. You can't copyright a video game strategy. People use strategies from youtube videos all the time. For example, I'm sure that Grunz's OoT and Majora's Mask use strategies/tricks he didn't come up with. My FF8 run uses tricks I learned from youtube. Now, pokemon is short, and there isn't much beyond the first trick, which is glitching the game. However, as far as I'm concerned, this isn't rocket science. He figured out what you did, and copied it. He did NOT submit your input file, it was his own.

Second, you want your contributions to be respected on this site, at the same time you snub it? That is some gall you have there. You had a record, that you claim no one else can submit, but you won't submit, therefore attempting to place an embargo on the best known record appearing on this site. I'm more likely to ban you now. You may have published the 'recipe' but p4wn3r made the cake. We take cakes here, not recipes. p4wn3r gave you ample time to submit your cake, but you made it 100% clear you weren't going to submit, given any length of time. Deal with it.

There is a Japanese run that finishes the game in 1:52:31 on nico video http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm6316849 http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm6305143 http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm6306438 http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm6307243 http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm6344030 These aren't in the correct order. I can't translate worth a crap, sorry. Anyway, this pretty much blows adelikat's & my plan out of the water. He does some ridiculously powerful things with Taloon. It may be the same author that has also done Dragon Quest II and Dragon Quest III, which are also better runs than what is on tasvideos.org. adelikat and I would have to go back a chapter, and basically copy what he did - I only caught a few mistakes watching it.

Here. Also, we try and keep these 'ban threads' from being a source of drama. While, yes, it is a curiosity, it really isn't relevant to users. (multiple accounts are already against the rules, so yeah, five million accounts is severely against the rules.)

Hi DK, I understand that you think I'm being critical, but really I'm trying to convey to people that "hypocritically" veiling dissent with a less-combative ("polite") tone goes a long way. In all of adelikat's examples, I think different wording on the part of Xkeeper would find him in a less-banned state today. I like to think that I have shit on you but I try to be tactful about it! Hopefully that means that no one thinks I have been shitting on you, because I am subtle about it. :) Non-shittingly yours, Alden PS You guys are really doing a bang-up job and I hope that you continue to selflessly contribute your time to this great site! Sorry, I misinterpreted your quote. I interpreted it as saying that 'requiring politeness is an acceptable hypocrisy, and thus people saying things impolitely should be ignored' Good thing I didn't try for an English Lit degree, me fail english. I was angry, because I believed you were defending his actions and mannerisms. Sorry for that. I think it is more simple, just respect the contributions of others. If you do that, then your speech won't be permeated by negativity. Also, if you have been shitting on me, I haven't noticed. I was wondering why I smelled bad.

I understand you are trying to be cute... however.... There isn't a exactly a fine line between abusive and being polite. You can be impolite without being derogatory, abusive, condescending, ungrateful, and disrespectful. We don't require users practice the finer rules of etiquette. However, when a users modus operandi consists of taking a shit on the numerous volunteers who make this site operate, we will take notice. People work hard to encode videos, code emulators, code this site, make TASes for us to watch, upkeep the wiki, and etc. When the majority of comments from a user are vitriol towards these volunteers, we have every right to take action, and remove negative and useless voices from this site, and will continue to do so. Oh, I almost forgot.... :) ...because that makes it acceptable.

No, there is no support for CDDA, unfortunately, which prevents many early PSX games from being TAS'd. This is far, far above my head to fix, so it probably won't. PCSX-reloaded does have CDDA support, so you may want to try that.
