Chapter 5 is definitely my favorite thus far. Keep up the good work.

I'll try and post an encode once you finish level 1-4, if you are cool with that.

You are trying this with v2.0.2, and dual shock emulation on or off?

I guess I jumped the gun. I really cant figure out the internal recorder. Every setting looks terrible. Splicing the audio in seems time consuming as well.
Don't worry about it then, I'll encode disc 2 overnight.

I need to pause the video playback somewhere? I clicked open disc when the insert disc screen came up and chose disc 2. Video playback stopped and the disc 2 demo loop started to play
You stopped playback - you need to use the window that opens on its own.

As I 've said before, I find this to be 40 minutes of extremely repetitive fetch quest, and I think your other upcoming TAS will be worlds better. No vote.

I have to agree with klmz, nothing about this run screamed TAS, beyond the one floating part in 1-4. Otherwise, it seemed like a maze game where you knew the solution, which doesn't make for a good TAS.

So, after listening to all three, I put them in a VLC playlist, closed my eyes, and pushed the jump ahead button. I was able to pick the one I thought was best Audio 2 seemed to have the best bass, and most dynamic range, but I could just be hearing things To be honest, I think your music selection of techno for this test wasn't the best. I'd like you to rerun the test on something like classical music.

I select Enc-None as diablos learned item right before the Seifer/Edea battle in Disc 1. I won't actually get it until around halfway through disc 2

This is a huge thanks that goes out to mklip2001, Dekaron, and Mr. Kelly R. Flewin. These three tend to watch, vote and comment on nearly every submission, especially mklip2001. This makes judging much easier on ignored movies, and I often look to their posts to influence my decision on questionable movies. Thank you three for being vigilant, and helping the site immensely. It would be a better site if all users were as enthusiastic as you 3 are about every movie, and not just MegaMario of Zelda games.

Alright, I'm running this on PSXjin v2.0.2, available here It desyncs because it uses accurate Dual Shock emulation from v2.0.2. Also, I noticed your controller issue in that thread - controller plugins have been removed in v2.0.2. You can turn on accurate dual shock emulation via the analog hack.

http://sites.google.com/site/darkkobold/FF8_Final.zip Here is all of Disc 1, again. It is 4:42 faster (2:50 is the Rinoa Skip, I also take a new 50 second detour which should save major time later).

it seems like an unfair penalty to author to continue playing after the game ends. I liked all the messing around, too, but the fact that it adds 10 seconds to the final time is what bothers me.
Once again, this isn't purely a records site. There are plenty of published movies that have speed sacrificed for entertainment purposes. The only real difference here is that no 'speed' is sacrificed, just the length of the input file. The game's ending would still last the exact same amount of time. The only time that ending input early should really matter is when a clever solution to do so arises - when this happens, it generally ads to the coolness factor of the movie. See [1775] SNES Donkey Kong Country by Tompa in 08:13.72, [944] NES River City Ransom "2 players" by Chamale in 06:53.42, and [1543] NES Gimmick! by Aglar & Hotarubi in 05:11.49 for examples of cool ways to end the input earlier than expected.

BTW, if this submission is approved as a precedent, does it mean that all Battletoads runs must end at the fadeout screen instead of last hit?
You are missing the entire point of my statement. While the movie file could end ten seconds earlier, the actual end of the game would not come any sooner. Therefore, as opposed to the audience staring at a still screen, feos used that time to entertain. This isn't even a speed vs. entertainment trade-off, as the end will still happen at the exact same time. This is hardly a precedent setting action. Future versions of this game will be compared to when the final screen comes up, and it is left to the author to determine if they want to use the last ten seconds for fun. Once again, this isn't a records site.

That movie was freaking amazing. Best TAS I have seen in a while. Also, the stylistic choice of using ten seconds of down time to have fun at the end of the movie, instead of leaving the players standing there, was a good one in my opinion.

In the first level of tomb raider 5, you used flares a lot (for glitches) but it also made the movie more watchable. Is it possible to do a similar thing for tomb raider 4, for dark scenes?

Theres not any real point anymore since all real names have been deleted in publications by someone. I have yet to figure out who or why they would do that.
This really isn't relevant for this submission, but what Sonikkustar is saying is that the final publication blurbs all read <GameName> in <time> by <nick> instead of <GameName> in <time> by <realname> (<nick>). Real names haven't been deleted, they are still a fill-in box. There was small change to how the publications are displayed.

Any progress? Or have you grown tired of it for the time being?
No, I'm still actively working on it. The last run got hindered, because I screwed up the initial AP/assigning guardian force learning. In the interim, I also tried a version that did not get the fish fins. (This run desyncs at some point) The plan was to forgo all extraneous battles up to the XATM092, and then use The End to gain the 50 AP from XATM. (then using Curaga to replace Water for the rest of its use) I was 45 seconds faster going into the Elvorett battle, and 18 seconds faster going into the XATM battle, and 1000 frames slower coming out of it. So, it failed. I restarted (again), because I realized I could skip getting the cards from the guy in the Garden, saving ~6 seconds, and manipulating everything I needed from enemy drops.

Very cool movie. I'll take care of judging over the weekend, when Quibus et al guide me through verification for the 3rd time.
