So we should break a law, because it has rarely been enforced? Just because it hasn't doesn't mean it won't.

Actually, after reading the COPPA law, I'm tempted to remove the information about his location from his profile. (Which, combined with his picture, makes it more identifiable.)
Once again, I disagree with Brushy's reason (to protect Patryk), however, the conclusion is the same (to protect the website from lawsuits, regardless of the 'rarity' of enforcement.)

Actually, after reading the Wikipedia page on COPPA, I feel that we should go further, not less. The idea, (at least, to me), isn't to protect Patryk, that is the job of his parents. The job is to protect the website from lawsuits.
I had this conversation with AngerFist, recently. While American copyright laws do not apply to him, the physical servers that host the website reside in America, and therefore are under the jurisdiction of American laws and courts. I will hole-heartily agree that the current copyright, DMCA, COPPA, and etc laws are ridiculous. However, the purpose of this site is to host entertaining movies of video games... Not to be the martyr against unjust laws. A single lawsuit (just or unjust, winnable or not for any reason would basically be the end of TASVideos.org. (Lets face it, community donations wouldn't scratch the surface of the legal fees).
Thus, we have heavy-handed actions to deal with things we perceive that could cause the end the site. Yes, in fairy tale land we'd stand up for truth and justice... but, this is the real world.

I didn't realize this game was made by Camelot Software Planning! (Makers of the Shining Series of games). Note, the text font is even identical to Shining Force 1 and 2. Anyway, I was looking into the game. Mashing X appears to be the worst strategy - It appears dependent on when you press X. Also, I think I found the RNG.
Anyway, yeah. I'd like to work with you, be a co-author on this. First and foremost, I could probably easily convert my SF2 text-advance scripts to BtB text-advance scripts.

I moved it to its own page, for greatness.
http://tasvideos.org/SDATASes.html
Also, promoted Meshuggah to editor, so he can edit the page freely.
Personally, I think bad game choices should have been left in with either rejected submissions or text that says bad game choice.
SDATASes was all I could think of. If someone can think of a better title, let me know.
Meshuggah, please link to that in your first post.
Also, Arc the Lad has a forum thread ;)

I'm somewhat on the fence about this. In general, it should be the parents preventing this sort of online activity. In the absence of parental controls, Brushy was doing his best to prevent bad behavior from a minor (US law, minors can't give consent for... anything).
However, a harmless picture is just that. So yeah, Brushy may have been overbearing, but I'd rather the former happen than too loose of moderation.

PJ_Boy made me think of an interesting physics question.
If you derive acceleration, you get the rate at which your acceleration changes. (You could do this nearly infinite times, until you hit a constant, to which the derivative would be zero).
If you integrate acceleration (m/s^2), you get velocity (m/s), i.e. the summation of your acceleration over an interval.
If you integrate velocity (m/s), you get distance traveled (m).
If you were to integrate distance... you'd get (m * s). Perhaps I'm just too far out of physics... but that doesn't seem like it would have any meaning.

That has been changed, all strings are now 512 to avoid having to mess with the entire header if you change author name. I will update the spec.

uh, actually, it is pretty crappy. Just give PSXjin a try, you might be impressed.
Also, have you considered getting help? Lua scripts and such?

first wip of this game. Battles seem avoidable up to a certain point (they happen on specific squares), and escape/critical hits/defend seem manipulable in certain ways
Why are you using PCSX for this? Since you are starting new, why not use PSXjin?

janus, I've noticed you don't seem to talk much about how you do luck manipulation. Do you use lua scripts? Do everything by hand? How does the RNG in the BOF series work?

Depends on how long the final movie would be, I think. Seeing as it is basically an autoscroller, it can get boring, but if you continue to warp... maybe?
If it ended up 4-6 minutes, I could see people enjoying it.

You give it meh because you don't want to watch it? That's a weird reason
so you would give a meh to Final Fantasy 7-8, which will probably be as long?
to others : don't be fooled by the duration. You can watch it under 2 hours by fast-forwarding dialogues and slowing it down during fights
Janus: Once somebody posts it on Youtube, I suggest you use the #t=0m00s to link people to the important fights. That is what I plan to do with Final Fantasy 8.

Arc the Lad is a strategy RPG for the Playstation. Amazingly, it manages to be much more simplistic than its 16bit predecessors. However, it is easy and fun to manipulate.

here are the first 3 battles, it is about 6 minutes faster at this point, than the 4 segment speedrun at SDA.

I just dumped this table from the RNG - the First Number is the RNG position, and the next 4 are the Crisis Levels, along with the result. Note, this changes if Selphie gains a level.

I too think it would be a shame if you quit your FF8 run!
On the other hand, i would also enjoy seeing more of WC2, though still less than a FF8 run.
Don't worry, I'm still working on FF8. I just need something interim when I get frustrated.

Why is that the final fantasy games continue to use such primitive RNGs? As recent as FF8 it was just a sequence of 256 bytes. ?_?
My guess is that 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it.' They probably have the same group of programmers from game to game. Additionally, When you are playing 'normally', you don't really notice that the RNG only has 256 states.
But yeah, it seems pretty simplistic.

I'm curious to see this list. Granted, SDA doesn't tend to care about game quality, and any game (short of "you have to cut the rope") is allowed to have a speedrun, as long as it is well played (i.e. obviously planned and practiced.)
For example, Legendary Axe for the Turbografx was decided it would make a poor TAS, but recently, a speedrun was published.

Looking at it as a win for either side is kinda the wrong way. It isn't 'us vs. them', its differing opinions on what is best for the site. Really, both sides want the best for tasvideos, it is just a disagreement of which is a 'better' run.
A slower run with better camera angles?
or
A faster run with questionable camera angles?

I did a bit of testing and research, and it appears the RNG is completely sequential for both these games. Unfortunately, it seems like a TAS would, at best, match a RTS, given that there is little to no variability.
