Alright, this quick pub was crap - more discussion should have occurred. #1, the current any% run uses the exact same glitch, the pipe glitch, for a different effect. #2, The precedent for this type of obsoletion was for it to obsolete the any%, see http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7865 or http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8001 Both of these movies were obsoleted by movies that used BRAND NEW GLITCHES, simply because the previous run had used glitches as well. This movie even uses the same dang glitch as the current any%.

Nach: You didn't clarify in your decision - is this going to obsolete the current any% run, or start as a new glitched category?

This was a colorful run, and the changing moveset kept things interesting. Yes vote.

I could help you look into it - unfortunately, my TAS plate is full right now, so I don't know when I can get to it, but I'd like to help.

I just felt that I should inform you that floors are for walking on, as it appears mega man has no idea of their use. >_< Also, the intro music sounds way too much like it is from Dragon Ball Z: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=efR4kpts6eg#t=0m24s Obvious Yes.

I've been noticing a trend - It seems to me that the number of votes an obscure game gets maxes at around 10-12 votes, and this seems like a decline from previous years. Yet, within a day of a Mario, Sonic, or Mega Man submission, there are already 40+ votes. I extrapolate this to mean that we have more than 40 registered members of the forum checking the workbench daily; yet the obscure runs go largely ignored for days, or weeks. I'm fishing for reasons why users don't vote or comment, and if there is anything I can do as a judge to encourage more active participation in these disregarded submissions. I'd also like to thank Mr. Kelly R. Flewin and mklip2001, not only do you watch and vote on nearly every submission, you give detailed feedback.

You could also use a different nico link, such as nicozon http://www.nicozon.net/watch/sm12887548 Just change the movie number to view the videos you want without making an account.
For some reason it isn't working. The player loads with something that looks like a snapshot of the run, but when I press the play icon on it, it goes black, some garbled characters scroll on the upper edge, and nothing else happens. There's no network traffic either, so it isn't downloading anything. The progress bar still advances, though.
This happens to me quite often - you have to reload a few times to get it to work.

Due to the overflow glitch - I could not paste my judgment in the movie's discussion. "While there hasn't been an abundance of feedback, all the feedback given was extremely positive. Accepting. Congrats on the longest submission text ever."

It was mentioned in the cancelled submission that breaking blocks in the ROM area of memory will crash the emulator. The post in question: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=258195#258195
For some reason, it always seems like mario hasn't gone that far before breaking blocks. I think a lua script that showed where you were in the ROM/RAM would be awesome, or a note in the youtube stream once he crosses over. Sorry, it was my misinterpreting what happened. Awesome, awesome run. Easy Yes vote.

Nice improvement. The uncertainty about whether or not this is actually possible in a real Game Boy is what stops this movie from being amongst my favourites.
This is bothering me a bit... does anyone have the means to test this? By test, I mean make sure the game doesn't crash if you break a block inside the ROM area. I realize that the horizontal position makes it difficult to complete the game by replicating this. I'm wondering if it could damage the cartridge or gameboy if you attempt to write to the ROM area... I'd hate for someone to ruin their gameboy in this test.

I dont get what you guys mean by the complete game. The difficulty switches different stages and bosses, so it would probably be impossible. The only way that you can have a true complete run is if you play on "Superwizard". But a run of that would be about 30-60 minutes, which I think might be too long for this type of game. I would like more opinions on this though.
I've never played this game, so I'm sort of confused - is it like lemmings, where each difficulty has different levels, and you don't need to complete the easy difficulty to get to hard? I think it is fast-paced enough to be a decent TAS - its too bad it kicks you all the way back every time you complete a level though.

So, I spent way too much time playing with this game today- It turns out that there is an additional skip in the Turbografx-16 version, with the ninja. When you get his second weapon, you get a super-boost every time he takes damage - this allows for this really nice skip, which happens at around 4:41 in this video: Link to video Also, I'm working on a 2 player version... I'm not sure how I feel about it, the speed differential is massive and annoying. Link to video

Now that the awards voting is open, it raises the question if the authors should be allowed to vote for themselves and on their own movies... (OTOH, I think that in most democracies candidates retain their constitutional right to vote and are hence allowed to vote, and it's actually implicitly expected that they vote for themselves, so perhaps this isn't such a horrible thing.)
Yeah, in the US, it is always a big photo op when the presidential candidates vote.

I thought the previous rejected playaround with the Cyrix glitch was much better than this. There were a few moments, but the glitches aren't on par with your previous works.

I wish that more players wrote submission texts as detailed as that of this movie.
I wish I could write as much as BoMF, I get tongue-tied. Anyway, this is going to need more feedback, before it gets judged.

After all, in the end, what matters most is: is a judge adequately informed to make a good decision? Silent No or Yes votes don't help the judge as much.
Well, the decision on a game like this is pretty simple; in fact, most improvements to published movies are no-brainers. The four questions I ask - was anything entertaining removed from the movie, or is this new movie somehow sufficiently less entertaining as a whole? Is the play sloppier than the previous version? Are there known tricks that were intentionally skipped, or could easily be added in? Does the movie fail to conform to the rules of the site (difficulty, SRAM, etc)? If the answer to these questions is no, then the movie gets accepted. Generally, in these cases, the voting/audience comments simply help to inform the judge, making him better able to answer those questions.

Also, do you really need the top score? It sounds like if you do the double hit once, you prove its possible, and then can extrapolate.

This is one of the hardest categories to know who to nominate. Anyone got a list of all the first time TASers for 2010?
