I think if a Dig Dug run is going to be publishable, it should aim for entertainment, i.e. find a way to kill all enemies in the final round with a single rock... maybe make some words in the sand? Get a conga line going?

I'd say an RPG with an unmanipulatable RNG, but, as Upthorn pointed out, Chrono Trigger has an awful RNG, and it had a published run, (granted, the current one doesn't count), that manipulated it... somewhat. Every RPG should have an easily-manipulated RNG. It is too bad that most don't.

If the problem is simply desyncs due to writing the camera, then get the keys, do a frame advance, load it up, and do another frame advance on the non-cam-hacked frame. Here is code to give a try. You have to hit frame advance x2, because (AFAIK), Snes9x has no emulate frame invisible functions.
BackTrack = savestate.create();

while true do
    savestate.save(BackTrack);
    x = memory.readword(0x7e0b1d)
    y = memory.readword(0x7e0ff9)
    memory.writeword(0x7e1a62,x-0x80)
    memory.writeword(0x7e1a4c,0-y+0x6f87)
    gui.text(10,10,"" .. x)
    gui.text(10,20,"" .. y)
    snes9x.frameadvance()
    keys = joypad.get(1);
   savestate.load(BackTrack);
   joypad.set(1,keys);
   gui.text(10,50,"Don't Touch Joypad!");
   snes9x.frameadvance(); --replace with snes9x.emulateframeinvisible() if it becomes available
end

I do this, except the exact opposite. Find the game with the most ridiculous mechanics, and try and figure them out. That, or someone bugs me "I can't figure this RNG out! Help me!"

I came to a realization, after doing the battles to get the Achilles Sword... Kazin takes too long to get Desoul. Additionally, desouling monsters doesn't actually help me. It gives levels to a character that has no use for them. I may have to start again... from New Granseal...

Congrats on getting a deserved publication... However, it should be mentioned that it isnt persaverence that got this movie published. It is coincidental that the rules needed changing with this movie. I.e. note to all hopeful future authors, harassing the staff does NOT get your movie published.

I find this conversation interesting... Are there really 35 threads with *interesting and relevant* activity on any given day? This forum seems pretty slow compared to some other forums that come to mind.

This version does the Kraken first. However, I think I'm ditching it, in favor of grabbing the Achilles Sword first. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1603942284/Shining%20Force%20II%20%28U%29%20%5B%21%5D.gmv

Pretty spot on list, mz! You missed my favorite - - He gave PERMISSION for the judges to take longer with a submission. - And this lovely post -

As in, it won't get published? I don't think you get how things work here. If you submit subpar movies, the site doesn't suffer. courtesy of Failblog.org... Protest FAIL.

Restarted, on "Ouch" difficulty (Hardest, per website requirments). I'm leaving the Speed Up Cursor on, since it is a secret configuration option, and does not affect anything else. I found out, that I am able to get Bowie +2 Atk, every level, with some extra manipulation. The extra wait time in menus is paying off in spades, in battle time. Here is a new version. It is ~3 minutes faster, and that includes picking up Power Water, Quick Chicken, and a spear for Chester.

Lol why? because you dont have any ? thats not demotivational (or whatever you meant), i would call you jalous ... Personally i think they are awesome (right now, while im posting this) Edit: this is obviously biased argument, i made the pics ... so obviously i like them.
Honestly, I like the idea of awards in profile... but look at who doesn't get them... To name a few: adelikat, Nach - They run the site. That deserves max appreciation. mmbossman, baxter, truncated, cpadolf - Our judges, who have to sit through some really crappy TASes.... shinydoofy - Site coder, keeps this monster running... Flygon, Sgrunt, Aktan, Raiscan, et al. - Our encoders, who have been doing a bang up job letting us watch publications ASAP. Most submissions get 2 encodes in the first 5 posts. Nitsuja, zeromus, gocha, Upthorn, mz, adelikat (again), et al - Coders for the emulators we use. They don't get the respect they deserve. Sorry, the emulators and improvements to them are far more important than the actual TASes that get produced. Really, I'd rather see special things be given to them, over someone who wins an award for a TAS. The people I listed really don't get the appreciation they deserve.

Additionally, that rule may be out-dated, since we now have amazing encoding volunteers, that publishes runs almost immediately after acceptance. TASVideos has never accepted low-quality runs, obsoleting or not, and so perhaps this rule could be completely eliminated? Glitchman's run is clearly not low-quality, simply out-dated.

There is not yet a majority of judges - currently, there are six judges - Nach, adelikat, Truncated, mmbossman, Baxter, and cpadolf. So far it is 3 in favor, (adelikat, mmbossman, and Baxter), 1 against, Nach, and 2 unreported (cpadolf, Truncated). 1 more judge, and you'd have a majority in favor of publication.

I'm going with a weak yes on this one. Also, POR, the poor reception to this video should teach you why you should make drafts, and really be positive before submitting to the workbench. You will notice, (and I'd like the judges to note) the reception to the earlier Willow video(s) was much higher. You burn people out quick with redudant submissions. Granted, I am one to talk. I've got 2 videos sitting in the grue due to obsoletion before publication.

Well, given that we don't have PS2 emulation, I would figure PS3 emulation is more than a decade away, much less by the end of the month. Also, I'm pretty sure it is against the general code of ethics of this website to participate in a contest like this using TAS tools. Even if, for example, Dolphin were able to connect to the Wii servers, it would be totally unethical to have a TAS achieve a world record in Mega Man 9.
