BIG BOSS is a very specific speedrunning goal. The dev team has even acknowledged it, as there's an (admittedly generous) time cap in addition to other BIG BOSS requirements. Every main numbered game in the series has a BIG BOSS run category (except for MGS3, where it's called FOXHOUND because BIG BOSS would be anachronistic).
Can you explain how a non-big boss run would be different? How much time? Things like that. For example, I could see a "silent assassin" branch to the Hitman series, because that fundamentally changes the game play from run'n'gun to slow and stealthy. Aside from the one stair case in the missile chamber, I've not seen a ton of stealth.

I'm about halfway through. Obviously great run so far. However, I'm taking issue with the branch name. It seems like a sub-goal choice. Additionally, I don't think a secondary run would exist with a different goal choice, i.e. more kills. Generally, the point of branch names is to allow for additional movies. So, I'm planning to remove it unless someone has specific objections.

The extremely lack luster gruefood delight is a major part of the reason why I felt we needed to remove the uninteresting game bad game choice rule. The last time anything was added was 6 months ago (unless I am reading it wrong) so that means there weren't any "movie submissions that entertained some viewers but not enough to be published on TASVideos." I seriously doubt that is true.
There has been talk of a tier system. That said, it would take many man hours to implement. People suggest it all the time. Its far easier to suggest than to actually do the work involved. That said, the fact that no one can be bothered to even list these movies in gruefood delight is not the best argument in favor of their publication. "Well, these movies suck enough that I won't ad them to gruefood delight, so lets publish them?"

I am well aware I am not a moderator (not even interested in being one) and am not "playing" pretend; I'm for real. Keep things organized are not words reserved only for moderators; if one is not organized they mess up others who just log in to look at any new posts on the n64 games he/she is well aware of and not anyones hack or whatever... HHS: I guess it's my fault for the misunderstanding; I would call this a topic; N64 games, Workbench, etc as threads. That's what I meant by keeping things in the right place. Finally, I just got annoyed going to TASVideos and looking at some name under N64 games being like "Oh! someone posted something new" and then seeing it's for some hack whoever made which is clearly not an "official n64 game" I would be interested in (duh! that's why I really just look at N64 games thread). If you wanna discuss about some random hack find another way to do it. Don't take up my time
Thanks for telling us how to do our job. Additionally, there are plenty of threads for hacks, unlicensed games, homebrew, and etc. This thread is perfectly appropriate. I'd suggest you drop it. Additionally, it is rather ironic you are "wasting your precious time" posting such drivel, driving a thread to the top, the very thing you didn't want. You do have the power to ignore it. This thread stays. Grow up, and ignore it if you don't like it.

Can google code projects be opened so that anyone can submit changes? Additionally, people who are just wanting to browse scripts and download them can do so using the "browse source" which is slightly difficult to find.

This is clearly some sort of pirate cart, seeing as it uses bugs bunny, without bugs bunny in the title. I personally feel that pirate carts (as opposed to the standard unlincensed tengen games) should be held to the standard of a hack, and not a normal game.

This has been a difficult decision. I'm definitely going to accept the run. However, it is down to a decision of whether or not to obsolete the published SFA2: Dramatic Battle run. In reality, after watching both runs, the games appear sufficiently different to warrant different publications. That said... My issues with both runs being on the site are three fold. #1, this is an obscure game mode, not the normal game type. Thus, it isn't like a standard Mario or Sonic game, it is more akin to a concept demo. #2, this mode is almost like an easy type. It is 2 players vs. 1 CPU. While some people are entertained (this movie's feedback is OK, not stellar), it is sort of the anti-tas, by ganging up on the CPU. Generally speaking, the reason for the hardest difficulty is that we slate things against the player. In this case, things are stacked in the players favor, and just becomes another fighting combo movie. Had these movies been 1p vs 2 CPU, it would have been a much easier decision. #3, it uses the same exact character pair. There were 100s of combinations that could have been chosen, to set it apart from the other publication. However, the author chose to use the exact same character pair. Yes, they have a slightly different art style, and a slightly different moveset (which is more apparent to fans, than to the general watcher.) However, it feels like very little was done to distinguish one movie from the other, to the general watcher. I will admit, I am not a fan of fighting game TASes, especially straightforward combo movies. This makes the decision even harder, as I am trying to remove my bias from the decision. These are the reasons the decision has gone so long.

That is what we call a desync. The input and the game became desynchronized, either due to emulator changes (different emulator versions) or a hiccup during playback. Oh, I see you used a different SPU. Clearly that is the cause of the desync.

For that matter you stated that your vote for the run was a yes once you discovered the aspect of having a second character and killing him off was necessary for the fastest run. Now I know judgment is supposed to for the good of all, and that there is currently in place a legitimate reason to not publish the movie as it has "uninteresting gameplay", but how can you claim that there is neither technical or entertaining value for a TAS if you yourself would have voted yes for it?
Like I said, that one was a hard decision. Additionally, I don't believe it is the first or last time I've rejected a run I personally enjoyed. Despite the frequent jokes, I try to stay somewhat unbiased.

Also, I was not trying to say Lagoon is a bad game, I have never played it and have no opinion. It was just the closest comparison I could find to a Back to the Future 2 & 3 style run.
I love Lagoon, so I am biased for it already. However, there is a pertinent quote adelikat uses often: Just because we've made mistakes in the past, doesn't mean we should repeat them again. That said, would people be interested in an Ungrue 2012? I'd be willing to allow for the reconsideration of runs that people feel had questionable rejections.

In summation to quote the publication (yes published on this site) for what many consider to be the worst NES game ever Swordless Link's NES Action 52 "The Cheetahmen" "Even the worst video games ever made can make up for a good TAS."
It appears you are misunderstanding the difference between "Bad Game" and "Bad Game Choice." The reason Cheetahmen was published was that it contained interesting things happening in the TAS, that exploited the poor game design. People were entertained by the TAS, and messing with the poorly-coded game engine was a technical challenge. On the other hand, there are many great games that make for poor TASes. Things that don't have exploitable engine mechanics, which are straight forward boring platformers, or fixed-length games. Now, lets look at the X-men run. The mechanics were simple - every wall could be walked through by the main character. There was no real route planning needed. The end result was a character walking from point A to B, with nothing happening. It provided neither technical or entertaining value for a TAS.

So my question is this: Why not remove the uninteresting bad game choice conflict, focusing on quality of the run and allow the ratings to dictate entertainment value?
The original goal of the site was to provide only the best TAS movies. When TASing was new, it was easy to balance ease of access to becoming a published author and providing great movies that everyone would want to see, and anything remotely substandard got rejected. Yes, some runs got through in the beginning of the site, but most runs were great games, and great runs, for their time. Back in 2009, there was a big push to open content to allow more mediocre runs to be published. On one level, this is good - more runs are published, new inexperienced TASers are able to get publications, and but we still don't accept everything. However, the down side is that we have a watering down of the site. Runs in general get less attention then they deserve. Only 13 people bothered to watch and vote on that game. There has been talk of opening the site to all runs, and reserving the "standard publication" for only the best runs. However, this site is run by volunteers, with real jobs and life responsibilities. Overhauling the entire site is not a trivial task.

I liked it. I'd be curious to see how more advanced luck manipulation techniques could be used. Also, it appears at one point, you summon a god-ish-type-thing multiple times for luck manipulation. Perhaps this could be abused more....

These techniques will continue to exist for newer consoles and for new platforms that we do not yet imagine, so I don't think TAS as an art form will ever die as long as the technology and tools are available for it. I take it as something as fundamental as the film is to threatre.
I may be pulling a chicken-little, but I assume that eventually, consoles will be far too complex to properly emulate. The emulation scene is having pretty severe issues emulating the original Xbox. Additionally, while not relevant directly to TASing, the amount of computation power to emulate a current-gen console in real-time may prevent people from actually building the emulators. We are a subset of the emulation community, and a majority desires real-time emulators, and do care about the speed.
