The game actually requires 1 extra input at the bird to see the end screen. Was this included in any previous run?

I dislike any type of 'normal' segmented run. It is like using a 'limited' set of save states. What is the difference in using only using 10 save states, or 10,000 save states? If the failed saves counted towards total time, it'd be different...

Note that this is one big rant, so if you don't like whining and bitching, don't bother reading or replying. April Fool's Day is easily my least favorite holiday now (it used to be #2 after Valentine's Day). Every year I dread this day coming, and every year there's always some BS that I have to deal with, and it's not just the stale sarcastic jokes that were never funny to begin with, either. This year it was a clever, but very assholish troll who lured me into a long-winded debate over the solidarity and accuracy of human concepts (which if you've ever debated it you'll know it's a self-corroding argument as time goes on). He basically said that we can never be sure of anything, which basically boiled down to him playing devil's advocate about everything I threw at him, no matter what it was. The argument ended by my conclusion that everything he said was meaningless by his logic (and he knew it, too...that's why he started it) and he was thus willingly wasting my time as a prank. It may not sound like a big deal when I say it now, but believe me it was infuriating at the time.
I wrote something much meaner earlier... but I deleted it out of good faith in the rules. However, you've got issues if you are letting internet trolls get to you, legitimate or not.

I'm astounded that people actually get into long philosophical arguments as an April fools joke. I must run in the wrong circles. And for me, the worst part of the day was the last 3 hours, with the shitstorm of horrible crap that landed in the submission queue. If you're going to try and do something funny, put some thought and work into it. Just being stupid isn't funny. It just reconfirms the rest of the world's assumption that you really are stupid.
Hey, it is the most activity this web forum has gotten in ages. There are a whole 8-10 submissions in Gruefood for April Fools, and maybe like 4 in the workbench, the majority of which were a) made by one idiot, or b) very obviously april fools jokes. A whole 14 submissions isn't really a shit storm. It's too bad that they weren't all funny, but at least we got a new meme out of it : *Does not color a dinosaur

I think that's the funniest submission criteria ever. I really don't see how any game can be published from now on that doesn't color a dinosaur.
Or, all future submissions require * Does not color a dinosaur

I highly doubt that PSX will be the emulator of choice for TASes in the long term. PsXauthor seems very distant from his community. His source is sealed. Note that the best emulators here have large contributors in the community, so that they work seemlessly for TASing. With closed source and limited access, it will be banging against a brick wall of frustration. Seriously, the admins do the talking for him like he is some kind of Japanese emperor.

Yes vote. I enjoyed how much you insulted the game engine's hitbox on forced scrolls. Also, this game is so very true to the source material. Batman is always using guns, and getting struck by lighting. He also used a jet pack all the time.

There is a video currently in the queue which may prove this point to be invalid. The Bram Stoker's Dracula has had 2 or so movies rejected. Judges have yet to make a decision, but guessing by the 9 yes votes (the meh was misvoted) it will get published. Additionally, just because a movie is in Gruefood, apparently that doesn't stop it from getting published either. See Cpadof's Super Metroid game-time-based attack.

There is only one boss battle that I found harder than the Omega Team. There are 6 whirlwind thingies that can revive and heal each other. That fight took me more tries than Alexander. Also, a note to all who enjoyed this game, I personally contacted scf at scfworks@gmail.com, to thank him for this game.

It's over half done, but it won't be out anytime soon. You probably won't see a release before the second half of 2008. I released a short demo as a public test of the battle system though. This is the most pleasurable jRPG experience I've ever had, seriously. FF 4-6 weren't as captivating for me, and I spent much less time on Chrono Trigger as well, but this game has the same overall appeal while having a deeper plot, longer and rewarding gameplay, and a lot of additional challenge for those who didn't get enough with the main storyline. So far I have completed all the quests and am trying to free Alexander from the Gate of Elysium (the bastard is unspeakably tough, even though I can deal as much as 20-25k damage each turn). I guess I'll be doing a newgame+ playthrough afterwards, or try getting the 7 remaining Hex tiles (I have 92 + 1 from Alexander) for the "extra challenge". For the record, I beat the normal final boss at level 70, and now I'm capped at 99 (which required surprisingly little grinding — overall about 4-5 hours of the ~63.5 I spent on the game). [EDIT] Damn it, made a dozen more attempts to defeat Alexander, but his Lionheart attack is so bullshit strong it effectively means insta-kill for two random characters. There's no way I can survive it, and thus there is no way I can sacrifice other characters's safety to make one of them the universal self-healing target, like I did with a couple bosses previously (Party Hat is awesome like that). Does anyone have any ideas what to do? So far I was able to lower Alexander's HP to about 90k out of 200k, but that's the limit of what I've achieved so far.
Quick answer: Ihad 2 characters faster than alexander: Hilbert and Lorenza. (There is a dress w/ +100 speed. If lionheart killed either, I could reserect Matilida (w/ Party Hat) before he had another turn. This made sure the next round hit her, and he always uses a weaker attack on the turn after. Thorve was simply a support character. Everyone but matilda had revive, x-shield, and enlight. Thorve haed boost for matilda. Matilda does all the damage, using dual strike. Also, there is a FAQ floating around with all Hex locations.

Also, interest free loans? Yes, I can just see the future of that. Loans can be charged interest to offset the risks involved. None of these are a problem. Even interest can be offset by increased production of an economy.
Loan interest is exactly what causes the exponential growth. If a bank lends some money it *has* and later receives the exact same amount of money, nothing special has happened. However, if a bank lends some money it has and later gets *more* money than it lent, that additional money has to come from somewhere. Where does it come from? Note that this extra money got from loan interest is not physical wealth, like valuables or gold. It's just more money, which doesn't correspond to any physical form of wealth. However, now the bank owns "more" than it did before, and thus it can give bigger loans, from this artificially created money. The more loans it gives, the more additional money it gets from the interests, causing the exponential growth phenomenon. At some point the amount of money got from interest far surpasses the amount of money which was originally equivalent to the physical wealth the bank owned. One could argue that the bank should be forced to acquire physical wealth (such as for example gold or property) which corresponds to the additional money gained from loan interest. This wealth has to come from somewhere. Where does it come from? One place where it can come from is natural resources. However, with exponential growth natural resources are spent quite fast.
Loan interest DOES NOT cause exponential growth, if money is borrowed against actual value (i.e. deposited money). It only causes exponential growth when money is created. One thing you and the video fail to mention is the service factor and risk factor involved with banking. We live in an economy where our ability to create natural resources far exceeds our ability to consume it. The US gov't has to step in to stop dairy prices from crashing. Thus, there is space for service based industries. Look, for example, at Advertising. This produces no usable resource, and yet is largely sustained in our current economy. The simplistic idea of an economy that requires every participant to produce a resource is out-dated and dogmatic. This covers the first part: interest as a service. The banks provide a service, like a barber, an advertising firm, a lawyer, etc. Next is banks as a risk factor.
Warp wrote:
This is more so given that now natural resources are going into two places: They are acquired by the people taking loans, and they are acquired by the bank to compensate their loan interest profits. An interest-free loan means that the bank (or government) only lends what it has, and gets it back later. The bank doesn't make a profit like this, but is it really the purpose of a bank to make profit, or is it purpose to serve the community? If banks were government-run, then there's no need to make profit (assuming an ideal, non-greedy government). The government simply lends some of its wealth to its citizens for limited time.
Now, you are right, in a perfect world, the gov't would loan money, the people would repay it. This is all well and good, and we can join hands, run through the forest, and sing carols. Not the way the real world works. First argument: Lets look at the current housing market. People are foreclosing on their interest only loans left and right, destroying the property in the process. (I.E. the value of the property is now LESS than what the lender gave. Money was LOST by the lender due to negligence.) Now, in the current system, the borrowers have A) a harder time achieving a new loan, and B) bigger loan interest to offset the risk. The lender, on the other hand, calculated this risk, and has built-in successes to offset these loses, I.E. gains in interest from good borrowers. In your system, the gov't would continually loan these deficient people money, to have them destroy property. When the gov't defaulted for lack of payment, it would lose money due to the lost property value. Who really loses? You, the tax payer! I don't want my taxes to go towards the gov't loaning idiots money who won't ever pay it back. This would be a tax on the diligent and responsible. 2nd, the video claims that banks are controlling the direction of industry. I say bullshit. Banks exist for the sole purpose of making their share holders money. They don't care about ethics. They care about bottom line. Additionally, if one bank won't loan money? Try the one down the street. (gov't controlled loans, you are out of luck after round 1) Really, the normal reason a bank would really reject a loan is too high of risk, for benefit of possible gains. The gov't making loan decisions? God, Buddha, Vishnu forbid. Look at the current administration's ban on stem cell research, and push for creation to be taught in schools. The last thing I want them in is making decisions for industry as well. Currently, political agendas play an extremely minor part in receiving a loan to start a new business. Risk factor plays a huge role. (Which is filled by the role of the Venture Capitalist.) In short, banks are good. The fractional reserve system is bad.
