I've decided to try and tackle SF1. I've made a small video of the first fight, I do a decent job of luck manipulation... However, I need to use the tools that Aclmm used when creating his Dragon Warrior video, to be even partially effective. I end up dying at the end of this video, it is just a demonstration of what can be done. It looks like it desyncs in the town with my crazy walk, there is a purpose to it. It actually ends when I die. I can't seem to get the computer to miss, with any consistancy. Hopefully when Jyzero comes out with the frame advance one, and hopefully fixes the debug mode crash, I can create a real one. I just wanted to show what is possible. The rom I used is Shining Force (U)[!] here it is http://www.msu.edu/~thomso25/sf1.gmv [/url] Important Addresses: 00FFA9E9 - Attack Amount (both player and enemy)

It seems to crash when you go into debug mode. As Aclmm just showed us, using the debug mode to manipulate luck can create some powerful effects. Also, since it saves the SRM automatically for some games, would to make an option to delete the SRM when starting a movie? Would save sometime and ease. Perhaps make it an option when recording a movie? Looking forward to a final version with frame advance.

All hail !, ! is the greatest dragon warrior of all time. That video was great, brings back memories without having to play a game for 18 hours straight. As a side note, I remember having the biggest problem trying to save the princess. I finally managed to save that hoe, right before I went to dragonlord's castle. My friends mocked me constantly.... This has my vote of YES!!! I forgot to mention, mixing up the hurt spells and the attacking made dragonlord much much much more bearable.

Emphatic YES! after the discussion about this, I tried it. I don't think it is the WORST game ever, but damn close. It is clunky, irritating, and retarded. One thing, is NES hard reset able to be recorded? perhaps you could manipulate luck to allow you to play the final two levels. Then this video would be worth it, plus more. The intro reads.... like William Shatner on... cocaine...

I watched the enitre video... the leveling is definately painful. It raised a question in my mind - how much of a differential would it be if you killed the enemies you bypass, instead of looping? Is there that much of an experience differential that you don't gain much by killing them? You walk by soooo many enemies, it seems like taking an extra step or two to kill them would be worth it, since watching the leveling is like watching paint dry.

Sorry, should have been more clear... this is a work in progress. Submitted for peer review, as blechy suggested.

is about to start - Here is my improved movie. I stopped at the final level, because SNES9x started desyncing every time. the rom is TTA -buster busts loose (U)(21699) the play is here - www.msu.edu/~thomso25/TTA.smv A few notes - I figured out that I can fly upwards with the apporpriate input. Great for level 5, my new fav. Note that after I jump off the blimp, I never touch it again. The football level - Down the ball at the one, to avoid a 110 star bonus. Note that the jumping backward was necessary so I could slide and avoid the tackle. Mostly to maintain the "never get touched" goal. Doesn't make a difference in the end. Hungry Boy Hampton is chosen by luck manipulation, as it is the fastest minigame to end. Hopefully this is interesting enough to get published.

Post subject: Keyboard encoder for SNES pads? Superplay specific?

Some of you may know that keyboard encoders exist: http://www.ultimarc.com/ipac1.html there are others, such as the keywhiz, hagstrom encoder, etc. These serve a great benefit to this community, if adapted to the correct purpose. The problem of limitations that keyboards provide, I.E. not enough button presses, difficult to do two player runs, etc, prevents great and entertaining runs from being created. I was thinking of taking this idea, and using it to create a keyboard encoder with superplay functionality. Imagine with me for a moment - You have a box that plugs into the computer, and on it contains the necessary mapings that don't exist on a typical SNES controller, save, speed-up, slow down, pause, frame advance, and more. It has connectors for 2 SNES controllers. Inside this black box, the SNES controllers are decoded, and made into keyboard commands. On this box is a picture of 2 SNES controllers, leds for each button. The box operates in two modes. In normal mode, the SNES controller acts as a typical controller. In frame advance mode, it captures the current state of the controller. Press the button once, the button is held, press it again to release. Leds visually tell you which buttons are on and off. I have done keyboard encoders for my various MAME machines, shown here: http://www.msu.edu/~thomso25/myapt2.jpg http://www.msu.edu/~thomso25/works.jpg Adapting the code to do this would be time consuming, but doable. I obviously would not be able to create or sell many of these, as the super play communities are smaller and more dispersed than the BYOAC community. It would have to be on an on demand, for the more prominent video creators. www.arcadecontrols.com Some information as to the process this would take: http://panda.cs.ndsu.nodak.edu/~achapwes/PICmicro/keyboard/atkeyboard.html http://www.gamesx.com/controldata/nessnes.htm What do you all think?

I got to the final level in challenge mode. I found out some nifty tricks, (thanks Zurreco!) That completely changes the pace of the fifth level. It looks like even all my tricks, the video is going to be almost the same length, because of the challenge mode. However, it should hopefully be more entertaining than the last one. I can post a work in progress, if anyone is interested.

Good call, I can down it inside the one yard line, and then slide finish to get only 11 stars. A little trick I figured out to make sure it gets inside the one, but it should be highly entertaining, (oh, btw, I don't get hit)

Wow, I never thought of the football trick. I'll try to slide and not get tackled, so I can go with the no hits version still. (It isn't life, but it is still a hit) I'd also like to know if the man, i.e. Bisqwit, wants me to do this in hard mode, even though it adds time. Also, to be noted, doing the run takes about half a second to get started, so sometimes running isn't used to save time. My biggest beef watching is when the run meter isn't fully used up and a scene ends. I'll play with the final boss, I think the reason it misses once is one of those luck manipulation things.
