In the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qaw7FrYnuyA At 12:32, you drop the extra mushroom and pick it up. At 12:37, you have to duck now because you are normal sized Mario, which slows you down. The first actual use of the normal sized Mario is at 12:43. Couldn't you have simply dropped the mushroom as soon as you enter the room at 12:40, got it as you wall-jump, and then become small Mario immediately after that? You wouldn't need to duck then at 12:37.
The mushroom drops regardless when you get hit. They just dropped it prior to that so they could pick it up as soon as possible.

If by "react" you mean "be able to have superhuman reactions," then you're absolutely right about that.

I voted No. This hack was... well... it sucked. The hack was unappealing on numerous aspects, as well as quite honestly boring. It was unentertaining to me and I found myself fast forwarding as it was just all too... overdone maybe? ie. Too much BS everywhere.. not enough "Oh, now THAT was clever level design!"
To be fair, it's not really overdone because it was the first hack to do it.

A hack must be judged for its entertainment value as its own separate game but also in context to the original game.
Kaizo Mario World 1/2 have never been known for their quality of entertainment as far as casual playing goes. They're there for the sake of pushing the limits of the game and player (the limits at the time, rather).

Quality of the hack should come into play as well. Hacks where only sprites are altered do not make for quality hacks. By contrast, a good hack alters the levels, the physics, the sprites, expands the overall game play, and even combines elements of other games to the point it doesn't feel like the same game engine.
Speaks for itself. It's not that great of a hack. There's approx. one graphical change in the entire game (aside from an ExGFX change or two to allow certain sprites to be in the same level as one another). It's not very fun to play unless you're a TASer (and this site's target audience isn't just TASers).

Popularity of the hack needs to be considered.
No argument here. It's definitely a legendary hack. However, so are a bunch of other hacks; Brutal Mario, for example.

The hack isn't all that great, honestly. The TAS is exceptionally well made, and I applaud that. However, for a hack to be published, both the hack and TAS must be mind-blowing. Having just one or the other isn't really the best idea, which is the case here. And don't compare this to SMB Air 2 again. I'm pretty sure the publishers were a lot looser about accepting hacks back then.

A lot of people have been bugging me about this since I first posted this Kaizo 2 TAS on YouTube, so I'd like to make sure of this. Would a Kaizo 2 TAS have any chance of being accepted, or would be it be declined due to too many categories? If SMB Air can get accepted, I don't think the hack will be declined due to its quality.
It would not be. It would be under the too many categories issue. Both the hack and TAS have to be of exceptional quality. You can't have one without the other, which is the case with this one.

I actually liked the TASBlend with the encode. It made 1/1 swimming look amusing, and it shows something unusual happening, whereas a 30fps encode would miss it. To each his/her own, though.
A 30fps encode would show Mario swimming backwards.
Which is not what happens in the run. It's inaccurate. I hold accuracy to be more important than visual appeal. It doesn't make me stubborn just because we have different priorities. Under your logic, why not replace the encode with an HD rip of The Dark Knight? That would look way more visually appealing than 16-bit graphics.
If accuracy is more important than visual appeal, then this run should be rejected for not using bsnes, right?
Accuracy as in the encode accurately depicts what you would see when running the movie in the emulator the run was made for. Encoding in 60FPS HD would be the most accurate solution, but we can't do that on YouTube. TASBlend is the best solution to this problem that we have so far.
I've been explicitly ordered by my commanding officers (bahamete and Lex) to stop arguing with you. I AGREE BRANDON! TASBLEND IS THE BEST IDEA! GOOD THINKING SIR!

They also went into world 3 somewhat, but they never posted a video of it. It's been a while since I've seen the SMV, but I think it was only two or three levels into VD.

Glad to help, bud. I've seen the run six times over the course of helping, so the answer is a definite yes. However, the submission text is rather choppy as-is, so that's going to have to be fixed a bit.

Regarding my last post, it's impossible even if I do make it past the wall. I've found another way to skip through that level, so I'm satisfied regardless~

Does anyone know if I would be able to make it past the wall at the end of this? To be run in Mix5 with Snes9x 1.51. I have to remain small. The invisi-Yoshi plops me out between the two blocks below me. Can't use Yoshi except for the beginning part of the last room. Edit: Disregard the poor playing. It's merely a test of how I should go about doing the level later in my TAS of this.

i have two ideas, not sure if either are possible. one, boost at the coin block wall, could you grab the coin before it turns into a block? probably not so you could try... using the key to maybe boost yourself through the roof next to the coin wall and stay in the ceiling and walk over the wall. either of those work?
That would accomplish nothing...

The frame-advance is really weird compared to 1.43. I hold it down, and when I press a button, it stops on that frame. It's rather annoying.

"Ideally, I'd like to be able to have the entire site drop v1.43 by 2010, if at all possible." How's that working out for you? I say use 1.43. 1.43 doesn't emulate lag properly, which is why it is best. I can't stand the layout of 1.51/1.52, so I'm not about to switch. 1.43 has more than enough features to make the perfect TAS.
