After winning a level, the game tallys your score and takes some events into account. The level was done very fast, but you won some award for which fireworks are shown, awards are given, etc. These events are long. The best example is Super Mario Bros 3. 3 cards of the same type nets you fireworks. Anything not 3 of a kind gets you a 1up and no special events. Running at max speed guarantees a star for the most part, so getting anything but a star actually slows down your in-game time. But doing so skips a ~10 second celebration. Runs which watch the fireworks in exchange for the fastest per-level time are given this category.

Maybe "tor" could be of use? It's an anonymizing proxy. Latency is probably gonna suck, but that's not a big problem.

Is there any chance that there'll be a SMV to ZMV converter?
Sorry, that's going to be impossible.

I'm fairly certain every single video on this site can be played by ffmpeg, which mplayer has built-in. The 1.0pre8 release or newer should handle every single video on this site without issue, CPU power permitting.

You know those buttons on your VCR that let you advance time one frame at a time while paused? Same thing. Tick... tick... tick... Going back in time one frame at a time is a new desired feature, but not supported by snes9x (yet). You'll have to use a save-state to rewind.

As you wish. Usual rules. Don't use download accelerators, don't try downloading it multiple times (this happens!), and please have patience. My poor DSL modem only goes so fast, and BitTorrent demands much bandwidth in the first place.

The NES is a palette based system. There's only ~64 colours to choose from. The selection varies by emulator, and FCEU supports more than one built-in, plus you can choose to load an external palette. Just to make things a little more annoying, fceu has a habbit of saving command-line parameters, so selecting an external palette becomes the default until changed (or the file is deleted from under it). That accounts for the colour change. As for encoding quality, each encoder is different. I have my idea of good quality (though I'll let it slip if the bitrate gets too high). Bisqwit's idea of a fair tradeoff is probably different. If you want, I'll use MPEG4 next time. That way Bisqwit's AVIs will be better.

I almost forgot about this, but parrot14green and vsmk3 suggested this screenshot: Does anyone object to the use of this screenshot for the movie description?
It's not especially interesting. Then again, neither was the previous one.

Well I only watched it once with the .avi, which I had to keep fiddling with to keep the sound synced (does that not get checked before it gets published? meh).
Works For Me (tm).

I bring you AVI goodness. I remind users that using a download accelerator is not allowed.

Here's my vote: FCEU runs at 60.0998.... frrames per second. 1 second is not a whole number of frames, and vice versa. Go with seconds. On a related note, I think the site calculates movie length using 60.000 on FCEU, so maybe this isn't relevant anyways. Or maybe that changed since last I checked.

It's a bit inappropraite for arguing over on the forum. Examples of parameters: an estimate to the movie's length so mencoder can provide an ETA and project file size, a subtitle file, subtitle repositioning/resizing, video filters, audio quality tampering. Other desirable features: for automation, zsnes should boot up in movie replay mode and automatically stop after a fixed duration. Parameters between passes vary a little bit. Which version of mencoder might change if I'm doing something dirty with mencoder's source code. I prefer being the one in control. zsnes does not give that to me, and if there's one thing I can't stand, it's software that things it's smarter than I am.

No no no no. I need to give my own parameters to mencoder. My mencoder has a funny name and has more parameters than the real mencoder has. Plus I don't make lossless AVIs. None of the settings are appriate. Ergo, Chainsaw of Bloody Dismemberment to the code, replace it with my own.

You're both right. It's a nice feature, but not for me. I'm removing it, and it's gonna look like what it looked like before. None of the settings are appropriate for publications. But I still wish to complain about netplay. I know they want to improve the protocol, and it was previously desync happy. But if they have working rerecording without desync, why isn't netplay sync stable? Or is there more to it?

I'll hack it once the movies start being submitted. (That AVI making code has to go) Where's netplay?!?

The velocity of the blade is the sum of the buttons you press, or "forward" if none are pressed. But if you press UP+DOWN at the same time, you get a total velocity of zero. :) Where "velocity" is defined to include a directional component.

My turn. Starts from reset, then you can see me loading a savestate at the start. I made it widescreen mode just for the hell of it. This is representative of what the AVI would look like if I were to encode it for publication, except the bitrate is still a bit low. Have mercy on my poor DSL modem. :) After end of input, I took the liberty of calling up Juno's next mission, just for the sake of the game's overglorified cinematics.

Bind buttons for both players. When you start recording, specify 2 players. Go. Or get a good friend.

Mission accomplished.. There's still some work to be done, but I have a better idea of what my objective is now. This AVI was constructed with the hq2x scaler, for no particular reason other than to try it. Known emulation bugs: the life force door icons don't turn green, and fog is disabled and it was too much effort to turn it on and rerender (if it works).

any suggestions??????
First, capitalize and use white space carefully. Second, you're using the wrong version of snes9x. Either use our modded version as found in the forum, or use the 1.43 PRERELEASE ("wip" or "dev") version. Third, you're breaking site rules by linking to a ROM. That's a good way to piss people off. It shows you havn't even read the rules.

I already have a full encoding of it done, ready for publicatoin at any moment. I've just been waiting for an appropriate time to put it up.
