I figured out what was wrong with my system. The second player wasn't loading under the plugin, so 1P was going limp every other frame since nothing was pressed on the 2P controller... Now to figure out how to fix the dynamic recompiler. Edit: So I guess it's too late with the interpreter... Edit 2: When talking to a character, they need to move to the correct location. You might want to drop yourself into position so they don't need to wander to the right spot. The guy with the red key is one obvious example. Does it help?

Me personally? I downloaded the codec from http://developers.videolan.org/x264.html (retrieved from SVN) and then built it into mencoder to do the dirty work. For good quality encoding, mencoder does the dirty work and mupen64's output is not kept. What you'll want to do is make mupen64 output to any (good) quality codec, then run 2 passes on the resulting video and make it into H264. H264 in lossless mode makes a good choice for the first output.

Is realtime encoding necessary? H.264 is great, and can be made realtime if you turn all its settings down. We like it for its excellent quality:size ratio when we put the effort into it, and it's well supported. It makes DivX/MPEG4 look like s--t.

No, I attached the input for your benefit. You don't press buttons at the right time, and I don't mean 1-2 frame error. This M64 doesn't desync for you?

That video didn't play correctly at all... failed to start game from the title screen with Juno running in the circle. Mupen64 hates me... Let me try fiddling with it.. I might have other options.

If you're starting over, could I ask you use the Interpreter or Pure Interpreter? Besides better compatibility, they'll make the AVI MUCH nicer, like the one I'm making. (Apparently it even makes the intro a bit shorter). Unforunately it means increased CPU demands during emulation.

Item #1: Glide64 handles the video correctly, but interacts badly with the Dynamic Recompiler. Might be a memory allocation issue. I have a sample AVI. When the AVI stop playing, it's because mupen64 blew itself up. Interpreter or Pure Interpreter have no trouble, but they're not sync compatible with Dynamic Recompiler. Item #2: I could modify your M64 for two controllers if you want. Dunno if it'll break sync, but I'm willing to try.

I can make an AVI in an hour or two, once I eat and fix some (fatal) bugs in glide64.

The heuristics for encounters are not perfect. I'd recommend actually going to the locations where the counter jumps around and actually try it. Find out if it's a flaw in the counter or if there really is a rate change between them. It's strange because it always seems to be in certain areas that the counter goes wonky.

What kind of bonuses are gained if you wait a long time? Because you get Speedster for finishing a level in 30 seconds, and the final award Speed Demon if you finish the 1p game in under 10 in-game minutes. It's nothing to laugh at.

Slightly repetative, but I guess there's not much you can do about that. I liked it.

Users still need to download the images. Please think of the poor fools who are still on dialup. 6k is more a guideline than a rule, but still...

Your statement suggests you havn't actually watched the AVI. There's no JXQ style commentary; god knows I don't have a good public speaking voice. No, this is my AVI information overlay program discussed earlier. Took about 8 hours to make, requiring my attention for no more than about 5 minutes.

Yeah, I said I wasn't going to post it. But apparently people don't understand that, so I might as well post it. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=IWSPILFQ

I made an analysis AVI of your whole run. It's 500 MB so I'm not just going to put it up, I'll send it to people who ask on IRC. If there's demand, I might put it on a file sharing site (they all suck if you ask me). But it shows a possible flaw in your Goddess battle. Plus it's an AVI of the whole run...

There's a filter for mencoder called decimate. It drops identical frames, resulting in better filesize. N64 games tend to run at less than 60 fps, so decimation is like a free file size drop. It would appear your video player doesn't understand and rather than skipping the decoding step, it also goes for the next frame anyways. Other games use it. Check out Boulder Dash, see if it does the same thing.

That said, it helps that the game runs at 20 fps and was only captured at 320x240.

Comet Mystic (?) is when you're on your way to a star finish when you win (ie. you'd be dead in another ~2 seconds). Mystic means you're in a magnifying glass, but I always thought it meant you had died or were about it. From my memory of actually earning this award on the console.

I'll let you be the judge. Same results with glN64 and Glide64 0.7

After much tampering, I managed to get Glide64 to behave somewhat properly. Lighting and clipping are corrected, in exchange for breaking some textures. Can't win I guess. For amusement purposes, see my screen shot collection. The first is FODA's own choice. The rest are things I think might be good alternatives or are somewhat funny, roughly in decreasing order.

We already tried that. The 125 KB/sec result is from running advzip on a file of about 145 KB in size.
