I'm a bit confused as to what you're trying to accomplish with this. I havn't downloaded it, but the description isn't clicking in my head as to what it does.

Here's what I got from watching it. I might be wrong. The strike chain isn't for freeing himself. It's for a delayed shot to inflict damage on M.C. Speed Burner is a slightly faster dash. It's also a free mid-air dash. The Rabbit question I can't answer for sure.

So be it. http://dehacked.2y.net/fceu-0.98.12-blip.src.rar Edit: I don't think this version has key bindings for movie playback/record for SDL. There should be a patch on this site that adds them. I think they've in the AVI making section.

Try it with mute anyways. There are ways of encoding AVIs with sound even when the game was emulated without. We call it "fake mute" mode.

The tracker's fine. I just have a certain sensetivity to what clients I allow on it. Shareaza in on my "Bram Cohen (author of BitTorrent) once called it a piece of $#!^ and I'm going to assume that's bad" list. I also have server logs to back this statement. I don't like programs that can't follow the rules and etiquttes established by the baseline specification. I've unbanned Shareaza. It's undergone some serious improvements since then.

The "peer" exchange thing is one of the dumber things I've heard. If implemented badly (and I have no reason to doubt otherwise), it will make badly connected networks. Since only BitComet supports this "extension", it gains an unfair advantage over other clients, while also maknig a poor swarm connection mesh. Lack of source code doesn't allow me to validate this, or to possibly assist in bug fixing. EVERY other BT client I know of offers source code. Even the other C++ libs do. Someone's going to have to make a REALLY strong case for bitcomet before I even think about lifting the ban. And this thread isn't the place to do it.

Nope. Bitcomet stays dead. There are other "features" in it which are too stupid for me to risk letting bitcomet becoming the predominant client.

It appears there's a demand for it. http://dehacked.2y.net/BT/torrents/supermariobros3-glitchfest_wip-to_world3_airship-genisto.torrent About 50 MB large. Includes airship desync. :(

I'm going to mirror the latest FCM since I can't connect to the site either. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/60/SMB3-World_3_completed.fcm (That link isn't the FCM itself. Click it to get the real download URL.)

Beating the crap out of Wheel Gator before he goes under water will do that. And no offense to Blechy, but I did get the impression that his playing improved towards the end of the video compared to the start.

Might you have disabled transparency? Water effects are handled by having layer 3 as a solid block of colour with transparency on it. It also eats extra CPU power to render.

If you want hosting, try my script. As for the actual run, my most significant suggestion is to seriously consider jumping into pits. Case in point: Magna Centpiede's sub-tank. After grabbing it, you dash right and fall down the hole. You didn't even grapple the wall. The faster solution would like be one of grappling the wall, or doing a dash jump from the sub-tank such that you just barely miss the floor of the ledge falling it. That way you don't need to wait for gravity to accelerate you down the hole -- you've pre-accelerated. Edit: although you've eliminated the X-Hunters very quickly, I'm wondering if the time saved is worth it. To the best of my knowledge, their locations cannot be manipulated, so you could play through freely and observe their behaviour and decide how you're going to bump them off.

I can comment on a few of these. In 4-2, he uses the shyguy as a step for double-jumping so he can evade the upcoming enemy more easily. In 7-1, it's all about the mask letting you in to end the level. This seems to be based on a timer and your character's proximity to the mask. Doing side-by-side runs may be nice, but when games start being really really long and/or the time difference between them is much more significant, I don't think it'll be a good way to compare. If someone beat the current Super Mario RPG run by 4 minutes, I'm not going to do a side-by-side of it. Certainly not the whole way through.

Okay, I'm going to put this up for download: Dual encoding: sleepz' and Phil's runs side-by-side. (Mirror) Please do not use download accelerators, or disable the "Acceleration" function first.

There are also examples in my dual run (X1, Boomer Kuwanger's level near the start) Also, I'm pretty sure it's possible to skip some more of the opening. Some kind of START mashing technique may skip all attempts to load the intro "movie". I did it in X1, and vaguely remember having pulled it off in X2. Good work manipulating Wire Sponge. I didn't think that was possible to get done so well. Blechy, look out!

The most obvious improvement seems to be in the second area 4-1. Obvious of course is a relative term when looking at a half-second improvement.

Naturally I'm interested in what's changed. I'm not going to be able to spot a half-second difference on my own... Oh wait, yes I can. (Fires up dual run encoder)

The file format spec is at this page: http://tasvideos.org/SMV.html A hex/decimal calculator, the frame number display, this page should be all you need. Oh, and a hex editor Warning: Luck manipulation depends on everything before the point where it happens. Even the smallest change might change the game's behaviour in such a way as to cause trouble. Then again, it might work perfectly. Good luck.

Set up irc.freenode.net on your channel list. Or, if you go into the main IRC window, type: /server irc.freenode.net Then /join #nesvideos

If you want to discuss this in greater detail, I'm in IRC and am usually there a lot when I'm not working. I'm not unwilling to give this a shot. But if this happens, we do it right. ... ... So I'm just here to trash bosses? (Not that I'm not experienced)

This is the first time I've ever used FCEU in rerecording mode. I think I could handle it (after I set her up for my joypad). The physics around the explosion were a little odd for me, and I just wanted to post it up. I could feel the lag, but it wasn't a priority at the time. Joint venture? And just after I finished cooling off after my dual run... The most glaring errors are the stage select at the start and the missed shot - those need to be fixed.

I got it a backwards. The current movie has a time of "36:14.83". That works out to be 130490 frames at 60 fps. Now if FCEU runs at 60.1 FPS, then the same movie would be an AVI of 36:11.22. I had it backwards, thinking FCEU would produce the slower game. That was how I got the number. All that aside, I think your goal should be in frames. Forget about time for now. Work in frames only. During your Pharoah Man battle, you seemed to slowly lose speed. This is why I suggest using frame-advance through the battle with Pharoah Man. There may be something subtle you're missing. With Frame-Advance, your timing is almost impossible to miss. I'd also suggest the same thing on the menu screen; I think you lost a bit of time there...

Agreed. Don't use famtasia. Among other things, it lacks Frame-Advance. My next suggestion is to ignore time. Go for frames. The AVI I made was encoded with a complete disregard for framerate - the frames are synchronized and the FCEU side is running at 60 FPS (very slightly slower then its normal emulation speed). All you have to do is improve it by 3.7 "seconds" to compensate for the framerate drift. Lastly, use frame-advance. I can't tell if you are or not. You can precisely count how long it takes to charge your Mega Buster to full power (and/or how long King Tut's invulnerability cycle lasts) and blast Pharoah Man, at which point it becomes a matter of ensuring you're at point blank range to fire when the right frame comes up.
