I'm just going to reiterate my opinion for emphasis. Not every movie is going to have the large target audience of something like Super Mario Brothers 3. But this movie is well done; the run itself and the glitches used would be very interesting -- and I think entertaining -- to those who have played the game and can understand what the author is doing. So I'm all for publishing this movie, albeit with the understanding that the target audience would be smaller than for most other videos on the site. Also, I think that the subtitles are an excellent idea as well.

I guess that's what stopped you from completing your version three run. : ) Since its a safe bet that you don't have a Genesis emulator on your computer at work, would uploading the WIPs as video files at Google help you to be able to see them from work? I'll still put the .gmv files on Microstorage for everyone else.

But seriously, good luck with this and I hope it turns out well.
Thank you! It does look like it will take more than a month, given my available time and the work of doing a good TAS in general.

Thanks for clearing that up for me.

I've never even heard of a (J) rom for Sonic 1. The only two ROMs I could find were tagged "(W) (REV 00)" and "(W) (REV 01)". Will your movie work on either of those two?

Sure it does. But is the FDS version that much different (besides the graphics) that it would justify having two movies of what would otherwise be the same run through the same game? We should probably move this discussion to another thread so we don't get off-topic here.

Just throwing this suggestion up here, adelikat and I have discussed it before: I think the problem with this movie is that you will not realize what's so cool about it unless you read the explanation in the submission. This can be fixed, if the explanations for what's happening are placed in the subtitles. I would like to accept this if this can be guaranteed.
That a very good idea, and I say: if that's what it takes, then make it happen!

Obvious YES vote for improving the existing run. Some of the glitch abuse was quite humorous, especially the collision abuse in 8-4. I do have to comment, however, that the submission text is a bit too egotistical for my taste.

The run was very well planned and optimized. This is certainly one of those "not for everybody" movies, but as a movie targeted to those who have played through the game, to be published with a recommendation to read the author's notes, I vote YES.

I watched the movie twice before making a decision. I am concerned that the movie would seem repetitive, even boring, to someone who had never played the game before. This is mostly an issue with the appearant quality of the game itself, although using both of the available characters would certainly have helped greatly. Your tool-assisted gameplay looks rock-solid and very optimized. I think it's good enough to get a YES vote, but using both characters instead of just Captain America would have made the movie a lot more interesting to watch, even if at the expense of some time.

Voted YES as an improvement to the current movie. I've never played the game, but I think the whole thing is kind of amusing. We've got a silly, cliché medieval castle environment and a "Black Knight" who attacks by throwing his beverage mugs at you; all accompanied by Bach's soothing classical music. My favorite ending is alternative #1, by the way. Edit: I like how you give Stanski credit. It's nice to see that kind of spirit of cooperation.

Here's me playing Donkey Kong. The copyright date on this game is two years before I was born. I think they stole the hammer idea from Super Smash Brothers. : ) http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/3722/DonkeyKongDeepLoner.fcm There's a funny scene on my third play; I swear no luck manipulation was involved. Also, this is me playing Mega Man for the first time ever. (Note: Mega Man, not Rockman.) I play all six of the initial stages. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/3723/MegaMan1DeepLoner_OMGWTF.fcm There are some really, really funny, or stupid, moments, depending on your point of view. This movie:
  • Uses death as a shortcut.*
*Back to the level select screen.

At the world one mini-fortress, when you first tried flying for the whistle -- that was hilarious! Although I still think I suck more. ; )

i don't get why the latter doesn't do it on crazy hard.
Danny reckoned that taking damage would save time during things like boss fights. Also, his version three run was going to take damage to save time at the end-of-level bonus screens. It doesn't seem to me that taking damage will add any significant time savings to the in-level time anywhere. And I'm going to submit this run in the "ignores delays caused by bonus effects" category to address the latter issue. I'm glad so many people are interested -- I feel bad that progress is so slow. : ( Edit: Come to think of it, I would enjoy Dan's feedback in all of this if he's still out there...

Super Mario Brothers 3 again: the movie is 26 minutes long but still doesn't complete the game. Waah! I WANT MY TOOLS! I've always loved video games, but I've never been much of a "gamer". Can you tell? : ) When I'm finished with Rocket Knight Adventures, I'm going to see if I can improve on Genisto's published SMB3 run. I'm serious.

You know, this thread is going to give a lot of ammo to the "You guys use emulators because you suck!" argument... Or, at the very least, the "Deep Loner uses emulators because he sucks!" argument... : p

I see nobody has attempted Super Mario Brothers 3 yet. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/3687/DeepLonerSucksAtSMB3.fcm I tried doing some of the fancy cannonball stunts as racoon Mario, but later decided that I just need to stay alive. But I couldn't do that either...

How much do I have to contribute to the site before being able to vote yes/no on submitted movies? I would have really liked to vote yes on the new Sonic the Hedgehog run.

Attacking charges the rocket booster, which is how I'm able to move so fast. (That, and jumping preserves momentum.) The reason that's there is so I can immediately take off once the second truck is destroyed. Thanks for watching! : D

Maybe. But this run is going to take a lot of work. You are correct that the SNES and Genesis versions of Sparkster are two completely different games. Even though it's only twenty-five seconds long, I've decided to post a video WIP anyway just to show how I'm doing so far. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-926045347878720311 You can also download the Windows Media Video (at the full 60fps) here. I spent an awful amount of time (and rerecords!) trying different ways of defeating the trucks, which is why this is all I have right now. Progress should be much quicker after this. Don't be afraid to be rough with your opinions. ; )
