It's explicitly in the rules that time savings that only come from things like faster text are not sufficient justification to switch languages. Also, wow, please cut down on the commas.

Please read the submission text, GGG; the author was trying to avoid using the spindash, so of course it's going to be slower than the existing run.

Aren't all of the letters only slightly off-route as it is? I can't see as how it'd make a significant difference to the run to pick them up (it'd just be slightly slower) and Beat himself probably wouldn't be used...heck, I can't even remember what he does in this game.

You'd be amazed at how much decent grammar and coherent posts add to your apparent age online. How big is the school? And what's the goal of the advertisement -- just to make more people aware of TASing? Do we have something in particular we want users to do, or do we just want them to check out the site and movies? You might consider getting ahold of the journalism group and asking if they'd be interested in doing an article on TASes. That'd be cheaper and probably more effective than an ad.

Yes, I think it was. Thanks for tracking that down.

But the effective resolution is the same. There's no more information in the "high-resolution" encoding than there is in the standard encoding.

In fact, I've seen a video of someone achieving one of the left-right glitches in reality with an unmodified controller, just by pressing the opposed directions very quickly. Unfortunately I don't remember what the game was or who put the video online. I'm pretty sure the glitch in question was one that let you move into walls.

Some games make use of the blurring effects of the TV to fake transparency. I remember seeing some example of glass tubes in one of the Genesis Sonic games; it looked way better with the TV artifacts on than off.

As a general rule, TASes don't use cheat codes, regardless of how they're input. The wild warp is almost certainly a debugger cheat code that the developers left in the game; presumably the pause is as well.

Hmm...thinking about it, I can't think of any mechanism to prevent potential DOS attacks against an automated encoder short of a privilege and quota system. So I say just let the user tell you how long to encode for.

I, personally, prefer quality over quantity. If this means that the Lynx is forgotten, then so be it. Just because it is the best game doesn't mean a shitty game should be published. This game sucks, it does not deserve to be on TASVideos, I vote no.
I personnaly, would prefer this kind of comments coming from the mouth of a taser, its getting annoying how people that do NOTHING pretend to hold the definition of quality or quantity
Are you pretending that just because you know how to make a TAS, that makes your definition of what is entertaining better than that of someone who hasn't published anything here? I just want to make certain I'm understanding your stance properly. Incoming rant warning... Sticky clearly feels that this game isn't good enough to publish, and you clearly feel that it is. You're both right, because this is a subjective judgement! So basically all you seem to be doing here is saying "Sticky's aesthetic sense is flawed because he isn't a TASer." And that's crap. TASers will tend to have a better understanding of what goes into making one of these movies. That means that the way they derive entertainment from watching TASes is going to be different from the way that non-TASers derive entertainment. Not better. It's like the difference between a movie buff watching, say, The Matrix, and being entertained by their use of camera angles, reflections, and color, and a normal person watching the same movie and being entertained by cool martial arts and explosions. Both stances are valid, and both are needed. Without the movie buff, cinematography wouldn't have as much of a drive to improve. Without the normal people, there wouldn't be enough of an audience to make it worth making movies at all. And the same goes for TASVideos' judgement process. The "normal people" who vote here are every bit as important as the TASers, because they're more likely to think the way the people who don't even post on the forums think. There's a huge audience out there that, to a greater or lesser extent, we're all working for. They may not help keep the art going much, but they do watch what the site produces, and it's important that what they watch be of reasonably high quality. In short, if someone thinks a movie is crap, they should say so. And if they think it's awesome, they should say that too. And when deciding if a movie should be published, we should for the most part ignore why people think movies are crap or awesome.

Wow this game is bad. Did the developers not have a budget at all? I mean, Ninja Gaiden 1 came out in 1988, five years earlier, and has way better visuals and sound, not to mention gameplay that's actually fun. I like how they completely half-assed the swinging animation, and the way the enemies just fall off the screen when you reach the end of the level. That said, I don't think this is enough of a trainwreck to be worth publishing. No vote.

Final Ninja Has some pretty good grappling action going on in there, actually feeling pretty similar to Umihara Kawase.

I have a video Inichi made where he finished Chronotrigger in 3:24 by glitching to the "room" where the credits roll for the ending with the frog and Mu creatures, yeah. It seems to me that any game that allows saving would be vulnerable to partial save corruption if we allowed resetting between frames. Currently only games that take at least two frames to save can be attacked this way and it's probably not useful for many of them because of the limited attack window.

Interesting. I'm not certain I fully understand how doing the demo shot helps you achieve the hole-in-one, but it's hard to argue with the results! How many holes haven't been hole-in-one'd yet?

Do you have specific gripes with the current design and ideas for how to improve it? A site redesign isn't to be embarked on lightly. That said, the front page has seen a few revisions in the last year.

I agree with Moozooh that "input file" works well here. It's intelligible enough in context, and it's brief. Your alternate suggestion, Warp, is indeed too much of a mouthful.

I really have to agree that this thread is not a good idea. Why even hold an unpopularity contest? Even if it doesn't erupt into a flamefest, all it'll do is make the people who end up "winning" feel bad. Maybe if the only entrants were bots and other programs. I wouldn't mind picking between TASVideoAgent, Bisqbot, Lua, the Gru, etc.

Thanks for the encode, Aktan! Looked like a neat game. It's a shame we didn't get to see more of the enemies get used, though. Still, worthy of a yes vote...though that face in the credits is creepy.

I finally realized why I kept expecting MarcoKarty to be the one who had made this run...heh. I'm inclined to agree with sgrunt. The gameplay is largely very basic platforming. The ability to jump on the soccerball seems like it should allow for some interesting opportunities à la Gimmick, but this never seems to happen in practice. And the environments and level goals just aren't interesting enough to make the run entertaining. I will grant that the run picked up noticeably once you got out of the sewers, though. Voting meh. Thanks for the encode, sgrunt!

It's possible what you accessed before was an older cached version while I was still developing the feature. See if it works on your laptop now.
I just checked on my laptop and everything looks good. Dunno if it was a false alarm or not but it's a moot point now. Thanks for implementing the feature!

What impresses me here is how little equipment seems to matter in this game. It's all about increasing attack strength...and having a mach-5 bird. Nice work, even if the battles do drag on a bit. Thanks for the encode, sgrunt!

Hm. I shouldn't have Javascript disabled. I know I saw Luigi running around up top while on that same page. I just tried it again on my home computer (original post was from my laptop), and both the MM7 and Zelda 2 clips looped properly. *shrug*
