For those of us who don't speak Japanese, what does "Tokimemo" mean? Google Translate doesn't seem to have any idea.

I don't deny that I'd much rather watch a high-quality encoding than a streamed video. My main point was simply that the streams make it possible for people to watch videos almost regardless of their software, which means that it is less of an issue if the encodes are too high-tech for some peoples' video players.

Available MP restore items: Mind Up (+20% MP): Bone Pillar, Tiny Demon, Student Witch, Imp High Mind Up (+50% MP): Devil, Arc Demon Mana Prism (+100% MP): Demon Lord Of course, trying to manipulate drops from all of these enemies, in addition to manipulating souls, would be a major pain. I'm pretty sure the Demon Lord isn't killed until after the Legion fight anyway, so no Mana Prism; Devil and Arc Demon are also only killed once each (IIRC), which means manipulating a bunch of Mind Ups since he needed more than a single full MP refill for that fight.

Speaking of YouTube, now that most (all?) videos can be watched online, is this as much of an issue as it used to be?

Kriole tagged his Aria of Sorrow run with "warpless" despite using the teleporter, so he seems to think that that tag includes glitches. It's a pretty confusing grey area no matter how you look at it, though.

It's my understanding that votes during submission no longer affect the movie's score, since they were leading to massive score inflation compared to the old scoring method.

I assume the bit of standing around right near the end (before Drac started his "drop flames from the wings" attack right before dying) was to manipulate his attack pattern, presumably to prevent another wing crush? Anyway, yes vote on an improvement in the Castlevania with the most ludicrous movement technique yet.

You needed to provide a file extension, like so: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1075678755/a.fm2

Before you submit, you should put the movie up for critique so that other people can take a look at it. You can upload the input file to Microstorage for others to download. You'll get a friendlier reception in this thread than you would in a submission on the workbench; submissions are presumed to be polished works with multiple iterations behind them. Whether deservedly so or not, people tend to get a bit grumpy if there's lots of noticeable improvements in a submitted movie.

While I'd love to see an Einhänder TAS, I suspect it will require significant ammo management, making it tricky for a newcomer to attempt. Still, I'd love to see someone take it on. Another shmup you could take a look at would be Recca, for the NES. Whatever TAS you do, you should make certain to do things that wouldn't be possible in real time. The reason why Galaga is difficult in that respect is that people have had so much time to practice and perfect it that very little is impossible in real time; thus, a TAS of the game would not look particularly impressive. Good luck with your TASing!

I consider the all-souls AoS run to be an early Christmas gift. Thanks, Kriole! <3

Thanks very much for the encode, Aktan! Looked fantastic. Obtaining all those souls at lightspeed was a real treat, and many of them actually got used! Easiest yes vote I've made in ages. (Man, imagine what an all-souls run of AoS would look like if there was a button input to switch souls!)

What was the purpose of switching to Richter right before killing Dracula? Wouldn't it have been faster to stick with Maria? Or does that not get you the "good ending" you're going for? Also, Drac's proportions are hilariously terrible. Each of his shoulders is twice as wide as his head is! Does he have a bustle under there or something?

Ora...I certainly didn't expect to see this on the workbench. Looking forward to a post from our lovely, lovely encoders.

Thanks for the encode, Aktan! I enjoyed the run, but the last bossfight looked kinda weird. Why was it useful to kill off Bimmy during that fight?

The better movement is why I specified "for combat reasons". I spent most of the game in model Hx, as I recall. Yay aerial movement abilities!

Thanks for the encode, Rolanmen! Man, I wish my DS worked...it's been awhile since I played this game and I wouldn't mind a replay. I rather liked the wall-climbing technique, and of course the miniboss and boss died shockingly quickly. Is that technique usable against all enemies? If so, I don't really see much need to switch models for combat reasons.

Hah! While the lag was interesting, my favorite bit was Megaman finally getting to kill Doctor Wily. Nice!

How much do the judges pay attention to the voting, anyway? It's always been my impression that it's the comments (and, of course, the judge's own opinion on watching the work) that matter the most.

The run was rejected, yes. Baxter posted his reasoning at the bottom of the run description. The votes are just guidelines for the judges; they're free to ignore them as they see fit. Anyway, the comments carry far more weight, and most of the comments were not overwhelmingly positive.

Typically TASers are using every tool at their disposal to get faster times. So the potential of taking damage should be the default option, yes. Sometimes taking damage is slower (e.g. because of lengthy recoil animations), but then it's not that the TASer wanted a cleaner-looking run, but rather that taking damage just doesn't help. I think there are a couple of runs on the site where taking damage is almost never useful, and in the situations where it could be used it only saved trivial amounts of time, so the TASer decided to forgo it. But do we actually have any runs currently on the site that go out of their way to avoid taking damage throughout when it would be useful?
