Looks like a remake to me. Like Metroid Zero Mission.
Well, the Arrange mode has new levels, but yeah, this is a remake of the first game. At least the second remake, since Super Castlevania IV was also technically a remake (as I understand it, anyway).

Apparently it could be 0%, but it would lead to a slower way to get OoB.
I got the impression this hasn't definitively been proven. The current glitch requires use of a save room (other than Samus' ship), and getting to the save room requires morphball and missiles. If there were some way to access it without those items, and then escape the save room without those items, then as I understand it the rest of the glitch should be possible; however, I'm sure if the game runners thought this was feasible they would have given it an extensive investigation, and they didn't. Which leads me to suspect that they have no leads on a method to reach the save room without getting those two items.

Thanks for the encode, ForegoneMoose! The run looked good. Especially, the use of the Cross weapon was great, and there were plenty of narrow escapes too. Nice work! Interesting to see the first (as far as I'm aware) incarnation of the ninja maid in the series, as well.

Wow, the description of the movie is a bit out of date: "Julius is only available to those who have completed the main quest, but unlike Soma Cruz, Belmont can't go through walls or use other fancy tricks like that." Complete with a screenshot of Julius going through a wall. :)

If you don't grab the missiles the door in the old mother brain room will still be gray and there won't be any enemies.
Hunh, I didn't know that. I assumed that the trigger for Crateria "waking up" was picking up the morphball, since that's when the searchlight comes on and the gargoyle blocks start tracking you. But it makes a kind of sense from a game design perspective -- you wouldn't want to climb all the way to the surface only to discover that you needed to go back down and get missiles before being allowed to proceed. Would've been more elegant if the door in the Old Mother Brain room was red instead of grey/blue, but oh well. Anyway, thanks for the explanation! Might be worth putting that in the movie description somewhere.

Something missing from the run description is what the missiles are for. You don't need them to open up the save room. They seem to be switched to right before the ACE happens, but what exactly is that accomplishing?

Whelp. That sure is a thing. It's an improvement over the old run, so why not? I mean, it's not like the old run made sense either. Great work, guys!

I don't know that this wouldn't be considered a "glitchfest" by some viewers, given the amount of glitching through terrain you do, but it's awesome. None of the other SotN runs we have show off such a variety of different movement methods. Alucard really has a lot of options! This is great, keep it up!

WTF!?
Read Truncated's message at the bottom of the submission. In brief, there are known strategies that would make this run significantly faster: using the whip, and a glitch to make certain enemies (including the final boss) despawn. Since TASes are required to beat all known records and this one does not, it got rejected.

Aside from the "koopa at the bottom of the screen" thing getting used more than I would have liked, I found this quite interesting. High-level SMB play looks absolutely nothing like normal gameplay. I think that, assuming this gets published (and I think it should be), it's important to emphasize that the physics of the game were not altered in any way; everything Mario does in this game, he could do in the original. Great work, HappyLee! And your English is now better than that of many native speakers. Congratulations. :)

What's all that stuff on the display above the hostage counts? Anyway, nice work! And a nice detailed description too.

If you're doing an All Bosses run then you have to go into the fight, IMO. So unless there's a way to kill Richter but still access the second castle, you'll have to get those glasses. I don't think glitching out of the fight really counts as doing all the bossfights.

No, they're the same game. Generally speaking, differences in the game that are solely due to regional variations (in particular, like faster text boxes) are not considered when deciding if a run obsoletes another run; the actual gameplay has to be faster.

I thought this game would be good TAS material when I saw the Let's Play, and so far it's looking pretty promising. Keep it up! I didn't see any obvious inefficiencies.

The Mop is apparently a joke weapon for Crono. But in NG+ you'll do most of your damage against the first two forms via Luminaire spam, which doesn't care about your weapon strength. Weakening the damage output of Confuse against the third form would make it drag on a bit, but that boss is more of a puzzle boss than a damage race anyway.

So you get a double-kill of Manticore somehow, thereby getting you two "level-ups", which makes the Graham fight go much faster. Interesting. Easy yes vote, anyway. Nice work!

Could be tricky, for the same reason that it'd be more interesting than most quad runs: there's no obvious way to "desynchronize" the runs so that one movie can do things differently from the others. Consequently, the fact that all four movies are running off the same input would be much more visually apparent, unlike in most quadruns. If anyone wants to take up this daunting challenge, they have my (functionally useless) support!

Early videogames had all kinds of wonky resolutions. That could actually be the true resolution of the game. See e.g. this article: "Horizontal resolution is not uniform, as its size depends on the particular graphics object. The smallest unit of pixel corresponds to 1 color clock cycle of the chip, of which there are 160 visible ones on a line."

That's a surprisingly mannish-looking girlfriend there. Frankly the graphics and coding on this game are pretty embarrassing, especially compared to Streets of Rage on the same system. I'm pretty sure the levels were cribbed from the Commodore 64k version of the game (I know I recognized the first two levels; never made it further than that as a kid though so I can't comment on the others). Of course, the C64 version might have stolen levels from other versions as well... As for the gameplay, there were a few places where I felt like attacks maybe weren't made as soon as possible or where I suspect some more effort could have gotten enemies into pits faster, and of course that super-laggy section looked terrible, to the extent that I wonder if it might actually be faster to kill them in smaller groups. But for the most part this looked pretty good!

There's a few problems, which might not necessarily be experienced by the members of this particular forum, but why tempt fate? That in mind, the arguments below are addressed towards a hypothetical forum, not specifically the TASVideos forum. The first is simply one of encouraging second-guessing the decisions of the moderators. Assuming the moderators are doing their jobs to the best of their abilities, they won't generally be making overt mistakes, but there's a lot of gray areas where people can pick sides. Unfortunately, once this kind of argument gets going, it can easily end up requiring moderation in itself (pointless flamewars where one side is defending the current mods and the other side is attacking them)...which gets you into "the mods are violating my right to free speech!" territory. This doesn't end well. The second is that mini-modding leads to people being presumptive about what is and isn't allowed, which can lead to a hostile atmosphere. People like to be able to tell other people that they're wrong, whether justified or not. Imagine a newbie shows up with a WIP of a playaround and is told to shut up and go home because TASVideos is only about playing for speed. By the time the moderators get to the post and "fix" things, it's likely too late; the newbie has decided TASVideos isn't for them. Putting the above another way, one of the jobs of the moderators is to be the "bad guys" when there's a problem. They're the ones who can come in and tell someone "No. You're wrong. Shut up." And we trust that, if they have to do that, they have a good reason for it. You absolutely do not want other forum members to think they have that kind of power!

How different is the playstyle you used here from one that focuses on eliminating the AI, rather than scoring points? If it was significantly different, then a playthrough of Magical Tetris on Hard might be interesting, but I agree that the other modes don't sound so different from stuff we've seen before.

Yeah, keep it up! It's too bad the list of requirements needed to make boss fights last more than two seconds would basically boil down to "no equipment and no spells", but oh well. Go go fire shuriken!

Well, I enjoyed it. Short enough to not outlive its welcome, and there were some novel strategies. The boss fights got a bit samey, but what can you do? Nice work!

As I understand it, trophy stands only work if the target is already at low health; otherwise they just deal some (relatively small) damage. Could be worth looking into the mechanics to see if there's a random element that could be manipulated, though.
