Oh, I misunderstood when the boss actually dies. Carry on!

If the rest of the game is anything like that first level, this is going to be an amazing TAS. Good luck! Does swinging the whip while the boss is exploding cause any extra lag?

I wouldn't worry about being off-camera detracting from the entertainment. It sounds like it's not going to happen often, and only when the route's pretty predictable anyway. If you were going to spend the entire run offscreen, that'd be a different matter, but 2-3 was just fine. Keep it up!

Bah, okay. That's technically a bad idea because like I said, people will adjust their votes based on what the community is leaning towards (even though votes are anonymous), but the whole voting system is of relatively low utility anyway so I doubt it's worth trying to fix.

So the link below the "Submit vote" button has eluded you for the past 8 years? :P
Doesn't clicking that link bar you from voting? I thought it did (and it should).

That's why you aren't allowed to see the poll results until after you've voted, after all. I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if a person who is rating a movie after it has been published will be influenced to some extent by where that movie was published to. Thus I would expect that the same movie, published to the Vault, would receive lower entertainment scores than it would if published to Moons.

Wow, evidently walls are merely a suggestion to the reincarnation of Dracula. Nice work, all of you! ...and I'm staying the hell away from the obsoletion/category discussion. Y'all have fun now.

Looks pretty good to me! How does the charge shot compare with rapidfire shooting, when charge time isn't an issue? I noticed you used a charge shot on the spider the first time it swooped down, but not the second time.

Doesn't leveling up (increasing max CHIP) improve the power of your basic attack in addition to letting you carry more ammo? I forget what all is involved in gaining levels, but it seems like that might be worth detouring a little for.

Well, that was fairly incomprehensible. I assume the pauses/equipment swaps were for luck manipulation? I didn't see anything obviously suboptimal, so well done. Thanks for the run notes, which help explain what you're doing. By the way, it's "potion", not "portion". :) Thanks for the encode, FractalFusion!

I tried playing this game as a kid. I was awful. I'm not certain I ever managed to clear even one plane (equivalent to clearing a line in Tetris). Nice work, dwangoAC! Thanks for the encode, Mothrayas!

This TAS was excellent. Thanks for making it! Any plans to do SMB2?
We have actually started a new SMB2 TAS. The new one takes advantage of the fact that the PAL version can be played at 60Hz instead of 50Hz by holding B at startup, and by playing the PAL version at 60Hz, the monkey gains more height from clipping because of how the developers decided to compensate for the difference between NTSC 60 and PAL 50. The physics is rendered once every frame instead of constantly, so they gave you more speed and height out of clips and certain movements, so playing PAL at 60Hz instead of 50Hz leads to more speed in most places, making PAL objectively superior for in-game time for almost every level.
Hm, this kind of decision has been contentious in the past. Might want to bring it up with the judges to make certain it's a "kosher" way to run the game. In any event, good luck!

This game doesn't have a jump button, does it? Because this TAS makes it look like it does. A stylish run, yes vote.
It does not. If you want to jump then you need to bounce off of the terrain. This TAS was excellent. Thanks for making it! Any plans to do SMB2?

I don't really think that any% and 100% are well-differentiated in this game. 100% just involves going out of your way at various points to grab red jewels, and then doing an extra dungeon at the end. That said, any% and 100% are the two categories that are automatically Vault-eligible, so I wouldn't worry about your run not getting published either way. I don't feel too strongly about which one you do. The extra dungeon isn't super-interesting IMO.

It makes sense that if you manage to kill things quickly, the game would automatically speed up. Who wants to play a game where the better you are, the more time you spend doing nothing?

I agree with Moozooh. I'm sure the set up and payoff of the 2006-turn run will be amazing, but the 2015-turn run already does a ton of interesting stuff that many people will love to see. And the existence of the 2015 run won't diminish the accomplishment of the 2006 run any. In any event, best of luck!

It'll be a long time before I can afford to get a new computer (probably years), but I figure someone could tell me what model would work for me when that happens.
So, basically, you're asking for help daydreaming about getting a new computer? If you want a mac, and you don't want a laptop, then get a Hackintosh. There is zero sense in paying for Apple's desktop options unless you also need Apple's support plans or you're planning to display your computer as a status symbol.

Feel free to make it. In the meantime, vote on the run as it is, not on some hypothetical different run that doesn't exist.

Okay? Claims were made that appeared to be in error. I showed why I believed them to be in error. Better understanding overall can be nothing but a good thing.
Be careful in your pursuit of better understanding that you do not piss off the people who are working hard to entertain you for no physical reward. Some arguments are not worth having, because the damage done by the argument itself vastly overcomes any benefit the argument could potentially have if resolved to satisfaction.

Wow, that's an evil RNG indeed. I enjoyed the run; thanks for making it! However, isn't there a secret boss that you should probably fight? This video shows a fight with Devilot.

I mean in general. If you feel the goal is too arbitrary choice, what you vote? If the movie is not optimal, but entertaining, what you vote? It is not "Yes", right?
Voting is solely based on how entertaining the movie is. Category arguing can happy in the thread, and is a separate thing. You are not voting on whether or not the movie should be published.
