Don't use the Selene. It's basically a cheat mode; having effectively unlimited ammo will make the game much less interesting. For that matter, I'd rather see a run that started with no gunpods than one that did. It's such a minor difference in terms of the run proper, but feels more pure overall (and removes the question of e.g. taking a Flash and then saving it to use only against the bosses). Also, there's only a few situations in which there are out-of-plane enemies. At the moment, all that comes to mind is right before Drache, and in stage 5 to get the Mosquito. Everything else either gives you some shots before going out of plane (e.g. the giant cannon on the train) or comes into plane after showing up out of plane (all sorts of situations). Finally, you're right that getting a multi-hit shot will push your score up quickly. That's another reason why I think going for score isn't that great an idea -- it'd lead to repetitive gameplay. Every single wave of mooks would have to be taken out with a charged Riot shot or something similar. Granted that this makes the run more challenging to plan, but it'd also reduce entertainment IMO since there'd be less variation in how you take out the mooks.

Why would he get banned for making an honest mistake? We're not vindictive bastards. Most of us, anyway.

I think I've seen a boss-rush speedrun. It involved a lot of pausing to switch souls, to the extent that the actual action was impossible to follow. The use of the Chaos Ring also rendered resource management moot. You can get impressively low times, but I don't think the run would appeal to anyone who isn't deeply familiar with the game already.

I made a post on this game earlier. Not certain I agree with everything said in that post any more; particularly, the Riot is far more powerful than I gave it credit for. Maximizing score runs into trouble in stage 6, since it would involve waiting around until the last minute to abuse the infinitely-spawning enemies. For that matter, if the laser drones Hyperion launches (or the reflectors used by Gecko, or the shield used by Schwartzgeist, or the fighters launched by Spinne, etc.) are worth points enough to counteract the boss repulse time bonus, then you'd have to drag every one of those fights out as long as possible. Not very entertaining. Similarly several of the S-bonuses require waiting for a boss to use a particular move. If you want to go for a "boutique" set of rules, I'd suggest the following: * Every S-bonus that doesn't require wasting time waiting. * Every boss must be fully deconstructed before dying (destroy every destructible part that doesn't actually cause the boss to die). Einhänder's main claim to fame is in its bosses, which sadly can be taken down ridiculously quickly once you figure out what you're doing, so the second condition would probably improve the entertainment value of the boss fights. Of course it'd render armor-piercing attacks basically moot. The first condition just gives you something to do while you're playing through the normal levels. I agree that showing off gunpods is a good idea. The problem really comes down to whether you use the Astraea or the Endymion Mk. 2. The Astraea has incredible potential power output, but using it effectively would require rationing your gunpod use (one gunpod would probably be dedicated continuously to cannons, for example) which would limit your ability to show off the more obscure pods. Endymion can of course stock up ridiculous quantities of ammo, and could use one of its slots to play with gunpods. It just can't unload as quickly, or show off pod combinations. Personally I'm leaning towards Endymion for the playaround potential, but Astraea would do straight-up bossfights better. Your YouTube link is malformed. Here's an Astraea no-miss run though.

Why does this TAS's description include a link to the (nonexistent) B article on the wiki? By the way, congrats on the publication, dwangoAC!

The label is rather silly, yes. I would say that you should only apply special labels (basically anything beyond "any%") to your run when you have to go out of your way to achieve them and they make a noticeable difference in the gameplay. I haven't watched the entire run; Flygon's encode is incomplete, or was when I watched it anyway. But what I saw looked good. This game is hideously hard to play normally; that health bar drops all too easily and restores are few and far between.

Sounds to me like there's an event trigger required to activate the door then. It might even be "platform's Y position changes from N to N + 1", in which case you're completely hosed.

I just realized I haven't commented yet. I enjoyed the run, though I disagree with Toothache on the music quality -- the SNES version's is better IMO. Ditto for sound effects. Still, this run is miles better than the current B.O.B. run we have, and quite entertaining.

What I usually end up doing for quick-and-dirty image generation is use ImageMagick's "text" format, which is a ridiculously verbose but very easy-to-generate format that you can then use the "convert" command to turn into something you'd actually want to look at. ImageMagick is really a fantastic tool if you want to do any kind of automated image manipulation.

I find it interesting that the pause screen and consultation with elders come through so strongly. Also that apparently the TAS spends a lot of time with only 1 unit of magic left!

How do you get the red boomerang without getting the blue one? Don't you get the red by throwing the blue into a fairy fountain?

IIRC the girl also crawls more quickly, and there's a side quest she can get that the boy can't.

Sonikkustar: I'm not saying your vote was wrong (since votes are ultimately subjective), but I'm curious what your criteria are for no votes vs. meh votes. Do you think the original 100% run should not have been published either? (My personal take is that no votes are for poorly-made TASes, meh votes are for TASes that are of adequate technical proficiency but fail to entertain, and yes votes are for the entertaining, well-made TASes. But that's just my personal rubric)

Beautiful work, as was the previous run. <3 Thanks for the encode, Toothache!

I believe what he's saying is "I can't tell which forum is the right one to ask this question in, so I'm picking this one. If that's incorrect, then sorry; please feel free to move it." :) For your actual question, I don't know the answer. My apologies.

I'm a bit surprised that Adelikat hasn't posted in this thread at all. I guess he's been busy with something else?

I'd go with _1080p, reason being that it's descriptive of the actual resolution of the movie. I've always hated having to decipher WXVGA and all that crap.

This run just keeps getting better. <3 And you're making massive progress! Thanks again for the encodes, gocha!

I think it far more likely that a run would be completed if the runners simply said "Okay, as soon as we're done with this star, that's it -- any improvements to that star will have to wait for a new run." The run would be known to be less fast than it could be if the runners had infinite patience, but oh well. I don't think the rate of newly-found improvements is going to slow down anytime soon. EDIT: "start" => "star"

Last I heard, there wasn't any support for Flash TASing, unfortunately. The inclusion of a Steam wrapper might also complicate things.

Agreed with the above. It's a generic platformer that is fastest-played when you fly over everything. The design's a bit kooky but that doesn't make it entertaining. Voting meh.

Hm, with a 67-byte difference, the page would have to be loaded 15650 times to add up to an extra megabyte of data downloaded. :) (Not that I'm arguing against optimizing screenshots; I'm just amused.)

Perhaps there's something about your encodes that causes the processing YT does to make them get out of A/V sync? Clearly this isn't a problem for all of the encodes people make here...

Looking good! Though I have to say I like the SNES music better. Oh, well. Did I see a corner boost in the first level?
