Continuous mayhem from start to finish, a few cheesy one-liners, and pizza; what's not to like?

I just found a weird glitch while playing this on the DS. I got hit by an octopus ink while jumping onto a ladder, but I didn't get dizzy like you normally do. The dizzy sound effect played, and I couldn't throw the line out or climb up the ladder (in fact I let go if I didn't hold up or down), but I could walk around and jump more or less normally -- I was getting some weird acceleration when jumping, though. I doubt this is useful, and it may not even happen on the SNES version, but I figured it was worth mentioning.

What you should do to compare is open one image in its own window, and then a second image in that window, and flip back and forth between them. The differences are subtle enough that you can't easily see them in Aktan's post, but they're there.

That's another thought -- set up a TAS playback "kiosk" computer that's set up to automatically play through several TASes, with the user having access to frame advance, a toggle to enable useful Lua information, and a few neat savestates. This would probably require some programming work, though.

Stylistically it looks better if you don't have the sword for the vast majority of the game. At least, that's my opinion. This would be a speed/entertainment tradeoff.

For promotions: it wouldn't be unreasonable to whip up a demo reel (like this one but longer), and hand-pick a few representative TASes to show like other groups might show movies or TV shows at cons. Another possibility would be having a TASer give a guided walkthrough of the TAS they made by playing it back in an emulator, and stepping through various bits frame-by-frame with their tools enabled (e.g. memory watch, specialized Lua scripts, etc.) to highlight how a glitch works or how close the hitboxes come or whatever. I don't think that watching someone make a TAS in realtime would be particularly interesting, but I could be wrong.

That was quite enjoyable. Thanks for making the run, Sonikkustar! Good work.

I agree with Kuwaga. We don't need to have an airtight definition for what is and isn't acceptable; the author should just clarify which glitches he's going to uses and which he's going to avoid, and as long as he's consistent and the audience thinks he chose well, there won't be any problems.

The people who do care don't care enough to learn to TAS Sonic games. The people who have learned to TAS Sonic games don't care to make glitchless runs. That's about the size of it.

Everything's working as intended. You gave us the link to the Microstorage page, we can go there and download your SMV file, and then can watch the run. :)

You have to tell it what language you're using, e.g. [ code python ] Insert python code here [ /code ]

Bizarrely incomprehensible. Most of the run is doing the trading minigame, but then you don't complete it. You get the fishing rod for no discernable reason. The game thinks you've done things you haven't. You die in an area with no enemies or hazards. In short, this run needs some subtitles. Still, nice work! I favor screenshots 1 and 7.

OoT is one of those runs that new viewers will tend to seek out automatically. It doesn't need a star, much like the SMB1 run doesn't need a star. If you like the game, you'll watch the TAS; if you don't, no harm done.

Sounds to me like you're making a test run, not a full-blown TAS. There's a reason why it took FractalFusion so long to make his TAS: he spent a long time optimizing everything he could. If you compare the number of rerecords he used to the number you've used, you should have a rough idea of how much more time he's spending on optimizing each segment of the game. Anyway, you can post your run on Microstorage for others to look at. Good luck!

Alucard doesn't need the knife item crash; his firing rate is "as fast as you can mash buttons" which is more than enough to stunlock Galamoth (Richter's base firing rate is horribly slow, in contrast). I've beaten him with nothing but knives and a heart refresh before.

Mmm...thing about Galamoth is, you can stunlock him with your fists without too much trouble if you have Wing Smash (fly through him, land on the ledge behind him, punch him in the back of the neck). I wouldn't be surprised if a TAS could accomplish this even without Wing Smash. Even if you miss the timing, you can stunlock him with a knife barrage, though you need a lot of hearts for that to be enough to kill him. Presumably subweapons would be disallowed in such a fight. But then you run into the large number of attacks he uses during which you can't effectively attack him. His targeted orbs and lightning storm in particular could slow the fight down a lot unless you suggest using the Beryl Circlet, in which case...well, his dangerous attacks are completely neutered. I could well be wrong, but I'm not certain there's a way to make the Galamoth fight both interesting and TAS-worthy. If he were to be fought in a TAS, I'd favor the punching stunlock, just because it's pretty silly-looking.

What the fuck ? That's a racing game guys.I won't be rude but on a racing game you usual make a TAS of only on course.
We only had two "one course" TASes on the site, and they were both massively unpopular and would not be published if they were submitted today. The audience wants runs that play the entire game. It's rather rare for "incomplete" runs to be accepted here.
Like someone said,it's not possible to play the whole game or all courses in one TAS since there are some practice tracks and some GP tracks.
This would have been a good thing to mention in the run description. You couldn't have known this would be a problem, though. Just something to keep in mind. You can edit the submission to mention this, by the way.
The MC1 run also was submitted here, and there is no difference to my TAS.
No, but there is a difference in the community. It's been over five years since that submission, and standards are different now.
I don't understand why you don't hgive a chance to newbie TASer,even if i also made a lot of TAS yet.
It has nothing to do with you, and everything to do with your run. Actually your run showed a good amount of skill, especially for someone who is new to the art. But not all technically-proficient runs are published, even from our best TASers.
Frankly,if you don't know the game and just say i could make a TAS of all Tracks,i don't know how i could submit here, for such players like u.A TAS of the complete run with best times in each track, would have more then 100k rerecords.
I think that's a sign that this might be a bad game to TAS if you want it published here, at the very least as a first project.

I noticed several times on the straightaways where you made many small corrections to your direction. Why couldn't you have been on the proper path as soon as you entered the straightaway? Anyway, I'm not terribly enthusiastic about single-track TASes, or about the original F-Zero either. Withholding vote for now.

I think the "zooming triangles" effect is needlessly distracting. If you look at most of the existing encoder logos, they're just a static bit of art or a single animated sprite. Your animation, in contrast, covers the entire screen and makes the text harder to read than it should be. Inobtrusive is good.

Any program that captures video output should be able to do so regardless of the speed of your computer and then play it back at a consistent "accurate" framerate. So theoretically you could slow your computer way down, fire up your video capture program, and play IWBTG at slowed-down speeds. There's several caveats here, though: * Maintaining a consistent slow framerate may not be feasible. * Sound is likely to not be slowed down at the same rate as the video * You wouldn't have savestates or frame advance, which are two of the key features needed to make quality TASes Sorry, man. Wish I had better news for you.

A TAS of IWBTG would be effective therapy for many traumatized players. But yes, sadly, emulation of Macromedia Flash (edit: Multimedia Fusion, as Moozooh notes below, whoops!) games is not yet available.

If this is accepted, (J) version of Lttp or FF6 will be acceptable because of the hammer dash glitch or equipping any item glitch. But maybe these won’t be accepted.
Just because one run requires an exception to the rules to be published, doesn't mean that other runs can use that same exception to get published too. Exceptions are made on a case-by-case basis. That said, it's longstanding policy that if one version of a game has extra glitches, or better art/music, or other useful things that another version doesn't have, then that first version should be used, even if it's not in English. So those glitches you mentioned might well be a good reason to use the Japanese versions of LttP or FF6.
