There have been numerous huge arguments over whether we should accept runs of bad games, where "bad" means "even a technically proficient TAS can't make the run interesting to watch." They can be compared to the Wikipedia notability requirement -- some people feel that every run that is well-made will be entertaining to somebody (and/or they're easily amused), and thus every well-made run should be published. The majority, at the moment, feels that only sufficiently entertaining runs should be published. They may recognize the skill and effort involved in making the TAS, but they don't feel it should be on the site. I'm intentionally avoiding providing arguments for either side (or even identifying myself with a specific side), largely because I don't want to rehash that particular argument again. It tends to create nothing beyond hot air.

Well, the abusers in question were the same people who manage the queue, so I doubt it was a problem this time. I'm sure the admins would let any would-be imitator know if they were becoming annoying.

Yay, a new submission for Trip World! ...what is this? You refused to let the music for stage 1 finish? Abomination! Voting no! Anyway, nice work!

I think this was quite well-done! Nice work. Though I agree that it's not very different from the existing warps TAS, it's a frickin' five-minute-long movie, there's not a lot of room for any TAS to be different in that timespan. The "interesting stuff" quotient was good enough for me. Voting yes.

Derakon, I have them all downloaded, so you can quit hosting them now.
Thanks for the heads-up, and for taking the effort to archive obsoleted movies. :)

Here's an alphabetical listing of the movie filenames. Edit: removed an extraneous close-code tag, then added this edit comment, making the entire message significantly longer!

How can something be more accurate but more buggy? Isn't accuracy in emulation largely a matter of not introducing (extra) bugs into the gameplay?

You may not care if the TAS is perfect, but it's not your opinion that matters. The TASer wants to make as good of a run as he can, and is willing to devote the necessary time. Telling him to be fast and sloppy is not going to change his mind. (Try getting ComicalFlop to stop worrying about lag frames sometime)

I don't recall ever seeing posts from GGG outside of the workbench/published movies sections. *shrug*

Aren't image signatures banned in the "Nach will come over to your house and introduce you to several novel uses for a jackhammer" sense?

I tend to watch in 480; higher resolutions play back faster than they load, causing buffering problems; moreover, the marginal increase in quality is less.

Filling the inventory doesn't strike me as a particularly good goal. Most of the items are useless, or even if useful, would cost more time to equip/use than they would save. Enemies die in 1-3 hits (barring Iron Ball and Guardian), so fighting them would not be very interesting, and largely a matter of very painful luck manipulation. You would have to find all of the unique items that are scattered around the map (e.g. Eversing, Spikebreaker, Silver/Gold rings) so that would be a bit more exploration, but I don't think the payoff is worth it.

Awesome. It's nice to see that they actually made the map contiguous across rows even though you can only see one row at a time. Thanks for making these!

Non-camping means that you don't just sit in a stronghold and wait for them to show up. Guess I hadn't thought about the clustering issue, though. Oh well.

Very nice. I especially like your Pokemon rating. The explanatory text was also quite helpful. Nice work! Thanks for the encode, Techokami!

I have a questions though, when i was a kid, i had this game on my N64, but in that cartbridge, no one had any face, everyone was a SIM, wich was very different than this, is there something that i don't know that i should?
I know if you didn't have the expansion pack, then all the sims used the same generic skin. Of course, if that was the problem then you also wouldn't be able to play the campaign mode...

Nice. I particularly liked the blind Farsight shooting. "Eh, I'll just toss a shot through this wall. Oh look, it hit something!" Now, can you do a non-camping team deathmatch against all darksims? :)

While I still hold out hope that eventually we'll be able to see a run that merely showcases superhuman normal play of this game...this is good. You beat up the game and stole its lunch money. Sometimes the farming for map percentage got a bit tedious, but not enough to seriously detract from the entertainment. Nice work!

Devil May Cry 1 or 3. Once we get PS2 TASing, I expect to see some awesome combo videos out of those games.

Anyway, watched the encode, and I have to admit we're getting to the point where improvements are basically impossible to see at normal speed. :( Still, it's a magnificient™ improvement. Nice work!

Wait, why are softsubs unpublishable? I would think the ones using hard subs (i.e. text actually added to the video feed) would be the ones unsuitable for publication. And why would you be changing your encoding style long-term in favor of unpublishable encodings?

You're making the mistake of assuming that the rules are remotely consistent and that the judges do not show favoritism. Bottom line is, runs that are entertaining to the audience and judges are generally accepted; runs which are not, are not. A "swordless" OoT run might be accepted; it also might not be, even if it was technically sound and made good entertainment choices. The existence of one run does not mean that another run in a similar category is acceptable. I'm not familiar with the swordless OoT concept; how often does the sword actually need to be used? The more it is actually required, the more exceptions to the "no swords" rule there are, and the more people will perceive the restriction as being arbitrary. I strongly suspect, for example, that if LoZ required the sword to be used to kill half of the dungeon bosses, then the run would probably not have been accepted.

I'll warn you right now that this community tends to react poorly to submissions that don't complete the game. Pretty much the only time that's allowed is when the portion of the game that is not played in the movie is very similar to the portion that is played (e.g. only doing the last few levels of Doctor Mario). That doesn't mean we can't appreciate what you're doing, or that we can't give you comments and criticisms for your work. Just that e.g. a TAS of just the Zero fight from MMX2 would not be accepted for publication, and would sadly attract a number of hurtful comments if it showed up in the submissions queue.

Bah, you say that and then you don't give a link? Shame on you! :p Edit: whoops, that was part 2. Part 1 doesn't seem to be up yet?
