While I was trying to figure out how to execute the backward jump in Exoddus, I remembered that it was almost possible to skip Zulag 2 using the fall through floor glitch in Oddysee. The backward jump, set with a simple auto turn delay, made it finally possible.

No. I have plans to redo the 100% run of Oddysee in the future, but my current project is Congo's Caper for SNES. edit; with that out of my way, I'll start working on a testrun. sad edit: The Tunnel 3 Skip trick, as seen in Sligfantry’s run only hangs the game in the PSX version: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1436561371/Dooty-Exoddus-Failed.pxm Without the trick it won’t beat any existing records, so, I’m giving up the project for now. Tried on ePSXe and it also hangs the game, but with an error message: I have a real PSX here, but I don't have a "real" CD Rom to test it anymore...

I'm downloading all four parts to watch later, but the first part already impressed me, for real. My update of Oddysee has not had much impact, I think a new run would have a better result. It won't take long to finish my current project, then I'll make an attempt at Exoddus too.

Thank you, Omnigamer! I'm trying to include things I missed in other wips, like winning more lives on the Slot Machine and collecting more items, a way to keep things "fresh" for the final run, I guess.

The Ninja Warriors Again... No, I'm not working on another game, it's that Ninja again giving me trouble. I had to sacrifice some of the saved frames to manipulate him. But changing where I took damage brought back some of the lost frames, at least. I'm at the end of the Water Stages, fighting the Pirate, my favourite foe by the way, 47 frames ahead of my fastest wip. Well, only a new trick can save time from here on, so I think this game is maxed out. See you in a few days with the submission.

To encode PCSXrr runs you'll need to follow this tutorial: http://code.google.com/p/pcsxrr/wiki/AviHelp But it's kinda difficult to encode Abe's games correctly. Dada was the encoder of my other runs, so he's your best bet for help.

This game is really wacky to encode, I remember Dada having a lot of trouble to fix the timings of the loading screens on my other runs of this game. Also, it's not so easy to find the "backup" which contains the glitches that I use in this run, and that makes it even more difficult for the encoders I think. @ Eye Of The Beholder I'll PM you with an alternative though. edit; he was looking for the video plugin, if anyone else needs it too; http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=179164#179164

Really nice, indeed! (the Lua Script on the previous page) by the by, Snes9x almost tricked me; I can start the game 5 frames faster in Snes9x, but I can skip cutscenes 1 frame faster in BizHawk. There are lots of cutscenes to skip through the game, so, a run made on BizHawk would kick Snes9x sorry ass pretty easily. So, I'm working on BizHawk 1.30. I'm about to fight the mid-boss, Dino, 38 frames ahead thanks to your shortcut on 1-2.

Thank you for the heads up! My any% improved run of Oddword is done, I may do a new 100% as well, but for this I would rather start from scratch, so it will be a future project. Talking about start from scratch... I tried, but my skills with TAS Studio are close to zero, so I'm restarting Congo's Caper too. I'm more familiar with TAS Movie Editor, since I'm using it for about two years, that means I may do the new run on Snes9x 1.51.

Thank you, Samlaptop! The mines can't hurt a "dead" Elum, the mine is blown by Abe. Something like we do on the way back to Rupture Farms; let the mine get close to Abe and then run away! To possess that Slig, I do a Screen Boundary Trick; Abe must be at two steps away from the boundary, a jump will put you between the current screen and the next one. There, you'll be able to chant without worrying to get shot by the Slig :)

Is it possible to TAS Abe's Exoddus?
Never played Exoddus on emulator until yesterday, but the door that must be opened by two Mudokons simply got stuck :( I was playing on ePSXe 1.8, not on PCSX. On PCSX it may have some emulation problems, but nothing major. I also want to see Exoddus TASed, 100% would be sick to watch! So, let's hope antd still have his pxm file. edit: The death delay trick may lead to a huge skip soon, it's easy to setup the glitch in Paramonia, but then a "dead" Abe can't clear one of the long gaps on his way out of Paramonian Nests. Scrabanian Nests in the other hand does not have such big gaps, but I still don't know where a death delay trick can be done in Scrabania :( I'm checking some possibilities but I'm pretty sure the edge climb delay, a useless trick so far, is the key to solve that problem, so it may be a matter of time until Paramonia's skip become a reality. edit: with the current knowledge about how and why the death glitch works it won't be possible to skip Scrabania nor Paramonia, sadly. But I'm leaving my closest attempt in my updated any% run, even not being faster than completing Scrabania without the glitch, it's a cool glitch to watch nonetheless. oh, almost forgot; the run I'm working on is not really an improvement, it's more like an update to include the death glitch, so it will have some room for improvements if someone else wants to give it a shot. edit; it is submitted; http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13577

The new trick found on Oddworld can be hex edited with a little effort, so I'll resume working on Congo's Caper real soon. About the wip, I don't have it here with me, I'm still on my job, but don't tell my boss I'm killing work... Only the Final World was missing, 799 frames ahead of my other almost submitted WIP, I was even writing the submission text... But, yeah, some parts can be reused, even some boss battles, so there's nothing to be sorry about :)

Really good time! I think the TAS can be around 20:00, never really beat the final boss though...

The restart never ends... no, I'm not complaining, I'm thankful, but you always find something new when I'm about to submit the run, ha ha ha. Well, I'll stop working on the completion of the run until we can not find any other improvement. edit; better yet, I'm working on an improvement of Oddworld in the meantime.

I was just trying to make a joke, but looks like I failed... Your tips helped me immensely with the Ninja guy, but all the other bosses can be hit on the first possible frame without worrying too much with manipulation. Avoiding get hit in the process is another story though, as you mentioned, the hitboxes are weird in this game and even far away from some of the bosses it's still possible to touch them.

The Ninja is definitely our nemesis... I'll test your memory addresses and see if I can improve my last fight. I already tested your "surfing the Fuzzyneck" trick, and it is 30 frames faster than my fastest attempt. edit: The Ninja can’t scare me anymore; I gave him a Banzai, a Sashimi and an Okinawa he won’t forget! Anyways, he teleports after the first two hits regardless. What I noticed is that if he teleports to one of the lower corners he will just jump until he reaches the opposite lower corner, giving me time to finish the fight before his next teleport. Here's the new wip, 648 frames ahead; http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/3032292580423161

The only boss that is giving me a hard time is the Ninja, he likes to teleport from time to time, and he's totally invincible during this animation :(

I once suggested a "jumpless" run of Super Mario on the SNES, but this is ridiculous :) Nice work.

Nice, I'll compare it with my last attempt. As promised, I'm working slower, but the run is getting faster and faster :) I mastered your instant roll trick, I even took the liberty to change the input, now it is Down, Right+R and then press and hold Down. Most of the time it work in the first possible frame, but not always. I'm also "taking-damage-to-save-time" this time, I'll post a wip soon.

Great, I'll take a look into your file as soon as I get home tonight, thanks. About the backward rolling, I'm sorry, but I fail to explain even the most simple things, here's the movie file with the trick; http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/2924200336494839 It's in the lava stage of the Spooky World, I jump into a wall and then roll to the opposite direction, not backwards as I first thought. But, I did the backward roll in some autoscroller satges just for fun :) edit: managed to watch your tricks already and that redo is not a possibility anymore but a necessity, I promise to work a little slower this time :)

You don't even have to get into the full roll animation, just have to start it for at least one frame. After that, the "climb walls" flag is set until you stop moving; everything else is fair game.
I don't know how to explain, or why it happened, but in one of the Last Stages, after a lot of frustrated attempts to cross the lava without stopping, I managed to "roll backwards"! Also, looks like hovering resets the climb wall flag, but hovering for one frame close to a slope puts you in roll animation, invaluable in the Spooky Stages. I'll check the tricks with your memory addresses to see if I can find other places to use the "backward-roll", thanks a lot for them, I'll also try to implement it in the Lua script. edit: the lava is in the Spooky Stages too, sorry. anyway, I'm doing the final fight now and it may be submitted tomorow.

The music in this game is nothing short of amazing! Also, watching it with the TASEditor with all its features is kinda cool. I'm voting Yes wholeheartedly.

Thanks, mate! I'm working on a stage that can be completed ~50 frames faster by taking damage. So, what? Well, it's another thing to go to the possible improvements; forgoes time saving damage. edit: I'm about to start the Spooky Stages, after that, there are just the Final Stages to do and it will be submitted.
