Hey, something good happened; using the cheat to advance at the same frame also crashed the emulator. So, I waited some time to swap the discs and no crash at all! I'm sorry for all the trouble, the first possible frame is not the best frame in this game... I'll post a new WIP as soon as I find the fastest frame to swap discs, or as soon as beat a stage on disc 2, to be sure it will not crash again.

Sorry, I was not clear enough. I mean the cheat to advance to disc2, not the FMVs. If I jump on the well and hold R1 and press Circle, Circle, X, X, Square, Square I can swap discs without crashing the emulator. I just want to know if the run will be rejected because of this cheat. I'll include it on my last WIP and I'll ask a judge if it's allowed.

So, if removing part of the game to speed up the run is not ilegal, do you think it will be okay to use the cheat to advance to disc2? It won't give me any advantage, I just need to jump on a well to advance to disc 2, but the emulator hangs. I can time the use of the cheat to happen at the same time I would normally advance, will it be allowed?

Using a cheat (hold R1 and press Circle, Circle, X, X, Square, Square) to skip stages, I'm able to swap to CD2 no problem. (if I try to start the game using disc 2 I can also swap to disc 1) but using the select level cheat (hold R1 and press Down, Up, Left, Right, Triangle, Square, Circle, Triangle, Square, Circle, Down, Up, Left, Right) gives me the same emulator crash. On ePSXe I can use both cheats without crashing the emulator, so I guess it really is an emulator issue. So, I'm going back to Oddysee to try to fix it. This run will be on hold for now, I'm sorry.

Um... is it not considered cheat to alter the game to have so much advantage by removing the FMVs? SDA may have different rules, I suppose. In any case, I'm stuck, not only on Oddysee, but also on Exoddus; http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1130256456/movie.pxm It's time to swap discs, but the emulator is crashing every time I try to do so. :(

I'm glad you liked it, but there's no way to beat Sligfantry's run; 1) FMVs skipped at speed of light on the PC. (how?) 2) Loading times absurdly looooong on the PSX. 3) No new shortcut found yet. anyways, I'm doing "Paramonia" right now. Sorry, I don't know the correct name for this stage. And Best PlayStation TASer of the year? I wish. :)

It's kinda awkward, but it works; http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1910630600/movie.pxm After the stop'n'turn trick, Abe will land here, but the camera won't follow him; And here's a modified Oddysee script, it's useful to "see" where he is going; http://pastebin.com/download.php?i=qSMLCcGA

What the? I don't remember those enemies being such cowards when I played this game. Nice work.

With so much enemy manipulation, It's hard to believe that.

I finally figured out what was freezing the any% run on the PSX; It's not possible to use these wells with Abe out of screen. (if it's not on screen, it doesn't exist) But... all doors work! And, at least the ones I can reach, are open. So, the Tunnel 3 skip is possible on the PSX version too. It will be a little slower than the PC version skip, but it's a lot easier to test possible shortcuts on the PSX version. So, I was planning to do the 100% first, but now that the skip is possible, I'll try the any% instead.

I'm sorry to double post, but I have some pretty bad and, at least I hope so, good news. the bad one is that the game is becoming unstable, loading forever or simply hanging in places. (looks like the dismount Elum trick came back to bite my ass) the good one is that I'm putting the run on hold, until I recover my motivation to fix it, that is. Why is it good news? Because I'll fiddle a little with Abe's Exoddus in the mean time. (the any% failed some time ago, so I'll try the 100% this time)

Man, glitches are not enough anymore, you guys want total control. This of course will take some TASers out of the scene, which is a pity. But we cannot hinder the progress, I guess, so Yes, yes.

And it really did! One of the rescues was greatly improved using that trick. :) Scrabania is kinda confusing right now, doors out of order, Abe is dead, Abe is alive... The next WIP will be delayed a little, I want to test if another DDG will cost me too much time. edit: It's slower, the DDG setup wastes too much time, not to mention the suicide before RuptureFarms 2. Also, Abe is transforming to Shrykull every time I have to open a Bird Portal, wasting even more time.

A really simple trick saved quite some time on my way to Scrabania; the DDG by UXBs. I can't believe I overlooked this trick before. I'm now trying to figure out the best level to "revive" Abe, Scrabania is really hard to do as a zombie, too many high ledges...

A small update on the 100% progress; http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/494702991/movie.pxm I did Paramonia first this time, and I'm 01:12.30 ahead. There are still 56 Mudokons to rescue, and the sub one hour is still a possibility.

Please, don't bee like that, I still have nightmares with those bees... Something that we sought for so long, and that we even thought was impossible, yet a simple bee trick made it real.

Thanks, enough for me :)
Oh, oh... the game is indeed shockful of surprises; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JweaNYl8aao&feature=youtu.be I'm sorry, but now this run is not finished as fast as it can be. So, please hold on a little longer and we'll fix this "mistake". edit: feos, here's the new file; http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/392186171/Sam_Laptop_and_Dooty_Oddysee_Any_Run.pxm Can you please replace it for us? Thank you.

Oh, and by the way, we forgot to mention one of the biggest improvements; the PCSX-rr version fixed by feos. It was painful to TAS this game with TAS soft graphics plugin before his fix, so a big thanks to him. Now, it's more like that we'll have runs of Exoddus too...

Yeah, the secret exit in RuptureFarms tricked me; it's faster to finish RuptureFarms with it, but the time spent to land on Free Fire Zone negates the time saved. So, every known time saver, and faster strategies, are already used in this run.

Clever! It's ten frames faster than the old one, and here's a file with the new strat in; http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/567514535/Abe_New_Stockyard_Strat.pxm It's still up to the kennels, so you can continue from where you left off.

Man, that's a lot of things to do. A word of advice; please, relax a little. Um, 13:41, huh? Now it's more like an any% run. :) Good luck to you.

Um... I can't think about an explanation right now, I just did what Sligfantry suggested;
patsh wrote:
Its me Sligfantry; Its all to do with another small glitch where bees stop Abe from turning around and running back into the wall during the ledge glitch setup (Bee Auto Turn Delay) You'll also see that its possible to set the DDG by sneaking instead of running. (the DDG happens at the transition between sneaking and walking)

Great, keep it up! I'm also including some of the improvements from the any% run into the 100% run. It will also feature the new "Bee Auto Turn Delay", found by Sligfantry, but not on Monsaic Awakened... and the Dismount Elum trick will be present in the next WIP.

You'll only need to remove (or add) frame by frame if you're fixing a desync. If you want to remove a big chunk of sequential frames, just click on the first frame from the chunk, roll the side bar all the way down to the last frame, and click it while holding Shift. edit: here's the JoyToKey configured for the PS3 controller; http://www.mediafire.com/download/9sp0pghdmx82va3/JoyToKey_en.zip apart from the X, Square, Cross etc. buttons, here's the additional ones: R3 = Save Current State L3 = Load Current State Digital Pad = Select States 1,2,3 and 4 Right Analog Up = V Sync Advance Right Analog Down = Pause\Unpause

Okay, just make sure to use the most up to date version of Tas Movie Editor. The one from the PCSX-rr page is outdated, and will probably cause problems. (it doesn't have the "Paste Before" option)
