Just curious how either of the TAS's are holding up. I'm sad there hasn't been much progress I was hoping it would have been done by now.

I for one am blown away with how much faster you were able to do this than I could ever dream of! I am looking forward to the next WIP soon. A note on the side, I am pretty concerned that skipping those 20 missile packs will result in shortages for purple doors down the road but I guess we won't really know for sure until later. I'll try and see how many more packs we can acquire along our route.

In defense of saturns keeping redesign a secret.... I was the one who confirmed something cool, and I wanted it a full secret until WIP5. however no one should claim perfection, because there will ALWAYS be 1 frame to be saved.

I thought I'd quickly post some progress while at work: I'm currently playing ahead of saturn from where he left off. This is in order to test faster routes for item pickups and to also get an estimation of what our stats will be upon reaching later points. I think Saturn is at a very difficult to optimize part of the game but from my testing it actually doesn't seem to be that terribly time consuming. That said once this part is past then we'll be able to make lots of progress through the rest of the run. This run isn't dead yet! Stay tuned

I've got an issue with frame advance. I have it set to my logictech controller as the R2 button. yet when I press it the game simply pauses, no matter how many times after I press it it just stays at the same frame, paused. when I set to to a keyboard key it works fine as should, but just not when its a controller button. any ideas whats wrong?

There is a new version of SMR, 2.1, I swear to be final. this run fixes 3 really annoying graphical glitches during door transitions, and fixed several save station that displayed the wrong coordinates on loading a save. this run has been tested with Moozooh and satruns WIP and does NOT desync them, so please update the patch and conntinue the run, its safe to do so. I swear on my life I fixed the last of the most annoying bugs and will no longer update any more!@

The only con I see is waiting for it to load. however its not dark at all, and there are no frame rate problems other than its not running at full 30 fps. but there was no lag or choppiness for me

Saturn and I have tested and concluded that the aditional time it takes to kill MB with just charged plasma, plus the detour time it takes to get 8 powerbomb expansions, will be more than the 15 seconds that the shine spark will save. nearly 1.5 min is wasted if this were to be done.

indeed, I could grab that 1 missile pack, When I head toward the back of the Dachora cage to open the first gate, I make a painful detour to get a 2 supermissile pack and a 2 missile pack, of course with this 1 x supermissile pack, I might be able to simply skip this detrour, which in total is probabll more than 30 seconds, since I have to powerbomb, wait for the bottom gate to open, charge a spark and diagonally spark through the barricade. GOOD CALL TUB!! In all it will only cost me another 2 seconds to grab an extra 2 supermissile refills from an enemy, 2 seconds vs 30 seconds..... SWEET

Kraids Weakness is Supermissiles. Also with reccomendation and Permission from saturn, I will continue his TAS from where he left off at Walljump. With complete focus on optimization I plan to match his skill on every room as I have learned a great deal from TASing the first run. After new shortcuts and techniques being discovered in the last week, it has been determined that the final time goal is Sub-Hour.... thats one terrible MONSTER of a goal. Thank you Saturn and Esspecially Moozooh for helping calculate time savers!

http://drewseph.zophar.net/Early_Hi-jump_Attempt.smv.zip yet another possible detour to take in the run..... how much time could this save in the longer run?

no, you could ibj to that guardian. the 2 obsicles are: 1- Speedboost blocks to the top right from kraid. if removed one could manage to spend hours ibjing up that ledge and other ledges and eventually make their way to the lower crateria caverns ..... which brings us to.... 2- The spoeedboost blocks just outside the Lower Crateria/Maridia Elevator. using an insane crouch jump/walljump I believe it might be possible to get to draygon.

The Block which triggers the erminent destruction of the supers upon re-entering is the bottom super missile block, you need to shoot out all 8 in one shot in order for them not to come back. Speed booster is SO close to being skipped, as we'd need it to get past 2 obsticles..... I could edit it so those 2 obsticles are removed under certain circumstances >_>

Probably not, since in water you can't get any height without already placing 2 bombs at once, in lava there is just barely enough time to only have one bomb placed at a time.

okay, I did it!!!! I completed the ibj though the lava, it required some crazy timming and abuse of the unmorphing, but I made it!!! thanks Darckness for the tips!! this manuver will cut 3 min off of the the final run to a posible 1:09, and of course, with more optimization, 1:04-1:07 any other possible time savers? Saturn (aka god of SM TAS) cannot come close to breaking surface with enough bombs, and cannot get close to the ledge, and neight can I, si I do have doubt as to this being legit. I would appreciate an smv showing how to do this,

I hardly think a save state is valid, you could have easily changed gravity in a code and gotten to the ledge, an SMV will be the only way to prove it possible

darckness, if you made an SMV showing it being possible then it would save an EMENSE amount of time, nearly 3 minutes!!!!

OKay, heres the deal. -You CANNOT get speedbooster after killing crocomire unless you get the grapple beam. if you want it early, you NEED an early powerbomb, since after the ibj to the overflowing grapple pit, you will need to bomb a blockade after the ibj -I grab the 5th energy tank so I don't have to waste even more time refilling my items on the respawn hive in norfair. -The west maridia quake is what breaks the tube, and the quake does not occur until Ridley is dead. -I didn't glitch the rinkas because I couldn't, I never could get the damn glitch to work -Refills in the run could be done less, as you said, I have a few of other things left over

Well, this won't be as awesome as Saturns run, however it is an optimized route, and has very few major errors. you get get the smv here: http://drewseph.zophar.net/Drewseph_SMR_TAS.zip you will also need to download the LATEST SMR un-headered patch here: http://drewseph.zophar.net/SM_Redesign_v2.0_Headerless.zip I'm not sure how in synce this will work with a headered rom. For those who have played through the game once or twice, I think you'll find this run VERY fast. you can watch it and be surprised by the final time which it vastly improved over atmas early test TAS. Thanks to moozooh for helping me test out boss hp, and quick trick shortcut manuvers =) he easily saved over a minute on my final time because of it!

Um, I used a health cheat so I didn't die from the beam. her beam cancled CF, and strips her armor. ALSO: I have made a TAS, so far I have gotten Screw attack, wave, ice, and am in brinstar heading to lost caverns. time is damn good I think

I have no idea what that meant, cause crystal flashing ding MB's beam = death
