Heh. Yeah, after watching the latest Rockman & Forte run, I was expecting Fred to violate some walls in those first cave levels.
It wasn't bad, but I can't imagine wanting to sit through this again, so I give it a Meh.
Healblade sent me the spreadsheet, and I've uploaded it here:

You can alternately download the spreadsheet directly.
As this thread becomes bulkier, I think I might turn the page into a data/WIP repository, sort of like the wiki on this site.
Yegads! Your whistle strategy looks pretty solid, but Tricks are borderline impossible. I hope you can pull it off.
ALttP?
Batman.
Rush'n'Attack! Except that they're clearly more than just friends.
If I'm not mistaken, Deja Vu and those other interactive novels Randil TASed would be the winners here.
Terranigma would win this hands down... if we had a Terranigma TAS.
Final Fantasy. C'mon.
Actraiser, surely.
An Engrish score would be good, too. Most pure gibberish disguised as English wins.
IMO, the thing that makes fighting wyverns worthwhile is that they have 2/16 chance of dropping a potion, compared to a hermit's 1/16.
I have to recant on what I said earlier, though- fighting two of anything at once doesn't work so good until you've gotten strong (or lucky) enough to OHKO everything. It turned out to be fastest just to pick on single hermits/wyverns until level 3.
A friend of mine has some webspace where I can upload it. Would you want to e-mail it to me, or...?
I'm doing another test run, which I might try to finish before the end of the month. I wouldn't want to do a serious run until there were a convenient way of predicting when/where the best fights are. Standing on the overworld for a few frames works wonders, but it's not exactly perfection.
In the meantime, I'm confused about one point: what is the map good for? If it's not manditory, then I don't see why I shouldn't skip Bonro altogether.
Edit: It desynced because the sampling rate wasn't set to 44,000. D'oh.
Great movie. I hope dead robocop on the mission complete screen becomes the screenshot.
Definitely not crap: nightshader has performed the "party level" theme from Mission Impossible 64. If you remember the song, then you already know why it needed to be performed.
Anyone else want to share some non-crappy youtube videos of vg piano?
No kidding. That was all kinds of weird.
I would like to see this taken further. How many coin boxes/shells can you have going at once?
I'm also curious about what can be done with duplicating the on/off switches... though the answer is probably "not much."
Very amusing overall, though I found myself fast-forwarding through much of the first quarter of the run, which I felt was pretty dry. Yes vote.
Edit: JXQ's post reminded me- have you experimented with eating or "double eating" the berries in FoI? It seems like doing something bizarre might be possible when Yoshi craps out a mushroom for Mario to eat.
...As if that weren't bizarre enough on its own.
That's pretty much what I've done so far in my new test. The only question in my mind is whether using the whistle is faster than getting to level 3/4 and fighting... probably the whistle, but I'm going to investigate it anyway.
How fast bosses can be killed will probably depend on which character you use. I was able to beat Romus at level 3 using Lux, whereas Esuna would have been killed horribly.
As for leveling, I've found that beating up hermits is best. Demons have too much defense/HP, wyverns dodge too much, and luck manipulation is severely limited in dungeons.
My theory at the moment is that one could encounter pairs of hermits, and with reasonably good luck, end the battle in three turns. Fighting them in pairs saves on the overhead of the end of battle wait (~300 frames.)
In my old test run, I was able to make Pison my bitch with level 5 Lux. Mileage may vary with other characters.
Edited to add:
I'm not sure if the XP check would work in your favor, but you can't talk to the other apprenti when your main character is dead. They just nag you to get him revived.
That should work, assuming you can get Lejes to level 12 to learn vacuum by that point in the game.
Hrm. It desynced for me just after leaving the throne room. Which version of the rom are you using? I don't think it's (U) [!]...
Edit: and if anyone was wondering, yes, I did flake out and not do the stuff I was planning on the earlier pages. I'm working on another test/WIP, though, so maybe that will motivate me?
I don't know.
Seriously- I've rewritten this post nine times, and I can't come up with a sensible answer to that question of why rules are explicitly necessary when we are able to discern the interesting, artful movies from the gruefood.
I'd be interested to see what Bisqwit has to say about it, but I don't want to put him on the spot.
This game is obscure, but awesome. I think it's worth TASing, both because the robots are somewhat unwieldy, and hard to control perfectly in realtime, and also because of aesthetics- the action looks good, and you can get out of the robot and dance around a bit during the waiting periods.
Here's a demo of the first mission. This is introductory; it only gets better from there.
You might consult Gamefaqs for equipment/route planning.
Edit: I rescind my statement. This game is too long and repetitive to TAS.
a potentially better idea would be to find the address to whose value the pause routine sets the volume, and then patch it to the normal volume.
That'd be cool if the game still syncs after that.
I gave it a shot. There seem to be a few pertinent addresses, but tampering with them either does nothing, breaks the pause function, or crashes the emulator.
If anyone wants to experiment, have a look at these: 7EF449, 7EF47E, and 7EBCB1
However, for the most part, it's worth saying that if you can do a good run on Metal Warriors, the next step is to do a run on Gun Hazard, which is a longer, more detailed and involved game.
Cybernator is another good choice, but I don't know if that succeeded Metal Warriors, or if it's the other way around.

Small WIP, containing only a fragment of the first level, though made to show what the game is about. Is anyone interested? Any feedback or information is appreciated.
You make it look surprisingly fast and easy, even for a TAS. I hope to see giant robots dancing to funky music in the near future. ;)
Same reason that "holds left on controller 2" didn't seem to be a very good basis for a Mega Man 3 playaround.
Granted, that would be a bad premise for a run... and I guess I just don't consider it remarkable enough even to be annoying.
No accounting for tastes.
