Wasting ammo would make this run more interesting, IMO. Goes well with the tumbling down the stairs to make Ripley look like an idiot. :D

Eh? I don't think that's it. I'm using XP and it works fine. You need to use a batch file or run it from the command line, since the window will just pop up and vanish. Anyhow, here's bank 83... I think. I made sure to get headerless loRom, so there shouldn't be any problems.

I use DisPel with this sort of command line: dispel -l -p -b 83 -o game83.asm game.smc ...Which dumps the assembler as plain text into game83.asm. I don't think there are many tutorials, but the code pretty much speaks for itself if you have an opcode reference.
Anyway, I sorta figured out how some of it works, and I found another piece of helpful info. 7E1DE9 is a counter of how many "active" eyeballs are on the screen (either getting ready to emerge from the slime or already out). The address is read at 83:D209.
Nice. I'll have a look at it later today, if you haven't already figured it out by then.

Holy crap. This really made my day. It was incredible, in spite of the fact that my computer only provides a crappy framerate and no sound.
Now, just like to ask the community what they would like to see in the improved run.
-Use a gun to draw/write things on the wall. The bullets fade pretty quickly, but if it worked in Gunstar Heroes, I think it'll be fine in this game, too. -Moar killing? You seem to need most of the guards that you don't kill to be alive so that they can damage boost you. Maybe casually shoot people's hats off? -It always amused me, playing this on the actual console, that you could shoot Natalya's console a couple times while waiting for her to open the doors. You might throw that in. Or not.
Aztec/Egypt, play these? And if so, would you still like the movie to end at the credits?
Absolutely, and yes. Again, incredible performance. You rule.

(maybe because I suck at watching RAM and am used to the ROM).
So... you know how to read disassembly, but don't know where to look? I found that 7E1DF8 is a counter for eyes that Firebrand has killed. This address is read at $83/D20C, and I'd bet the function you're looking for isn't too far off. I'd look into it further, but the power of my eyeballs is diminishing rapidly at this hour. ;)

Wow, that is pretty damn stupid. I suggest using both players. It takes some practice and your brain may, in fact, catch on fire. But it's usually worth doing for entertainment value, which is particularly important in an autoscroller, where you'll be spending a fair bit of time with nothing to do but wait for the next wave. You have to look at it as an opportunity to be creative, IMO.

The video worked for me using the specified version. It doesn't look half bad, but I think there are better autoscrollers that could be TASed. Also, what's the deal with player 2? Can he join in, ever?

I didn't expect to obsolete the movie, and I felt that an attractive set of collectibles unique to each level needed inclusion- the KONG letters.
Nice idea- a definite goal, kind of like the SMW "speedwalk" or small-only. I'd only be guessing if I said it would be publishable or not, but I'm sure we'd all like to see how it looks so far.

How does a 60KB file take over 3hrs to download?
Judging from your description, I'd guess that your ISP is preventing you from downloading .torrent files. There's a list somewhere on the internet of all the ISPs that are douchebags, but I can't remember the location. The codec problems are answered here: http://tasvideos.org/FAQ.html

When you post just ask yourself: "Does this make me an ass?" If the answer is 'yes' or even 'maybe', chances are you're being an ass. Stop it. Simple right?
Not quite. A real ass isn't going to accept that his own behavior is inappropriate. For the most part, the rationale an ass will use consists of transferring their responsibility to someone else. "I know I'm being an ass, but he started it!" ...Which is asinine. Edit: I want to add, having reread what I just wrote, that I can't recall seeing any of the regulars in this community get so out of line that using the ban-stick should be considered more appropriate than using common sense and reasoning ability.

Could have been better. Maybe using one of the redundant turns to score 13m37, or something like that.

WWF RAW. Anyone who played this in their youth probably is aware that you can pound on the ref until he gets pissed off and leaves. Or maybe he doesn't. Edit: You might want to just set the speed to 200% and listen to Yakety Sax...

Wow. I actually want to play it now. Of course, the movie collected everything, so I really don't have to. :D Voted yes, with extra yessitude for being 100%.

Oh, you simply have mod access. Sorry, I missed that. I'm not as fluent with vB as I am with phpBB, but you might be able to edit the per forum permissions that you have moderator access to. You may be able to disable guest posting from there. The only other thing that I can think that you may be able to do under the circumstances is get in contact with the administrator and ask to be opped if possible.
Well, spambots are sophisticated enough that they can create accounts at will, so it's still a problem even though the guest posting is already disabled... the admin kinda brushed me off when I asked to be allowed to fix the problem, and it doesn't look like we'll be hearing from him any time soon. I think my only option is to fashion some kind of browser addon that can interface with vB... Or, y'know, just forget about it, since nobody really cares but me. ;) Thanks anyway, Omni.

Firefox has it in Tools->Options->content->advanced. It's quite handy.

Hmm. Any one of those would solve the problem, or at least reduce the severity of it, but I lack access to those features.
huh... I was just thinking about the relative sizes of games on different systems the other day, it would be interesting to know which is the biggest. Looking through my ROMs, Megaman 4&5, Nightshade, and TMNT 2&3 are all 512 as well.
I've seen Kirby's Adventure at ~750kb. May be an overdump or something.

Dear TASVideos think-tank, I'm taking care of a vBulletin forum, which is getting spammed constantly. We've lost touch with the administrator, have no access to the server, and can't make new mods. The only solution at present is to delete the spam manually, which is a ludicrous waste of time. So I'm thinking, if I can't add a Turing test to the registration page to keep bots out, couldn't I at least automate the process of deleting spam, the same way bots are creating it? How would I go about doing such a thing? ...Or is there a better solution I haven't thought of?

I hope it means spending five hours casting Nuke on the moon! ...Actually, it might be kind of cool to see a TASer go out of their way to defeat all the summon monsters, as most of the appeal of an RPG run lies in the boss fights. There's also the bent appeal of watching someone run from treasure chest to treasure chest picking up items they'll never need.

Dammit. I can't compile snes9x-1.43. Massive wall of errors. Would someone more able perhaps be willing to add subtitle support?

I think this is the patch, but I have my doubts. I couldn't get it working, presumably because I don't have a (J) rom. Edit: Also, the site is looks to be completely clean. No viruses, far as I can tell.

Sweet. It definitely shows- I liked the old version, but the lack of frame advance was telling. Yes vote.

Dear Bisqwit: Why does my browser keep trying to connect to this site on port 5? (This isn't a support question, since everything is working properly. I'm just curious.)
