I wanted an "inelegantly hump my way through the first level" run. Not a test, per se. It was mostly to amuse myself and play around with luck manipulation... since anyone who's played this damn game knows how awesome it would be to get this many "big xp" thingies all at once. I stop at the end of the first level because... well, the rest of the game holds no interest for me. Anything less than 20 xp is probably not worth the time spent. Anything using the default body, probably not worth the trouble when you can just get the red jewel and go on a killing spree. Seven minutes. Doesn't inclide the title screen, or anything after jumping on land. Some thoughts/things I might look into later if I feel like messing with this again:
*Do we actually have to eat the yellow crystal, or can we just pop in and leave? Easy test- I'm just lazy. *The volcano is manipulable to some extent. Around 12000, I went left, and the volcano wasn't triggered. Going *up* however, triggered the eruption earlier. Don't know how that works. *I still have no idea how to manipulate the xp bonuses, but judging from 7th Saga (another Enix game) the RNG is at 7e00df and de. Examining the values in this movie might shed some light on which exact values are needed. *Red crystal killing spree + luck manpulation = most of your upgrades. I was stingy and only upgraded things that would give 1 agi/100 xp, when I probably could have gone all-out and still get the 800 xp jaw just by being less sloppy with the manipulation in the volcano scene. *The blue crystal costs, I think ~1400 frames, using my upgrades, which could easily have been better. I doubt it's worth getting. *I think it might be possible to skip some of the text (the seaweeds for example) by using a trick similar to the one Hero of the Day found for Chrono Trigger. Someone's going to have to go experiment with that and watch for any counter variables that might coincide with triggering the text... that someone is probably me. :/ *You can't get through the wall at the end. Well, you can, but you shouldn't. Watch this movie for an alternate ending where I squirm through a barrier and wreck up the game. Requires 7e00d3 to be set to ff, because I switch bodies over and over for a few minutes. But, it looks like it's possible to squirm through (possibly) any wall, given enough metamorphoses. Fin on, fin off... *I'm guessing there's no reason to use the X-gulp thing, ever.
Edit: WTF is wrong with my url tags?

Shouldn’t a brilliant movie or game or book be enough to sell millions?
I don't think so. It'd be nice if it worked like that, but in practice, people like to avoid crap, and aren't willing to spend a whole lot of time researching the most worthwhile games, movies, etc. Here's a hypothetical situation: A malevolent, omnipotent genie gives you 30 minutes to live, and specifies that in that time you must watch one of two TAS movies awaiting judgment on the workbench. You can choose either: JXQ's "Journey to Silius" in 30:00 or, Dromiceius' "Superterrific Action Joyride (U)" in 30:00 Assuming you've never seen either movie and never heard of either game, do you think you'd pick the familiar, well-established JXQ, or the obscure and possibly incompetent Dromiceius? I think it's justifiable to employ a little name-dropping, since it usually helps cut the chaff from the wheat.
Sometimes, this ego-ridden self-admiration can work.
As an aside, you make some of inferences in this paragraph that I didn't buy, and you didn't (and probably can't) adequately back up. That is, I have no reason to believe that you know anything in particular about the inner workings of Mel Gibson's mind.

My semi-short list of NES music that could be good on piano (and which I haven't heard before): Contra's Waterfall stage/Stage 3. I dunno if anyone else hears it, but I think it could be really dramatic and powerful with the right application of dynamics. Code Name: Viper, Deja Vu, and TMNT 2+3. It's a lot of music, but it's all pretty good. The ending themes to Megaman 1, 2 and 4, with the opening from MM3. A medley with those, the ending from Code Name: Viper, and Ryu's ending from SSF2 (which is SNES, I realize) could be a neat collection of bittersweet Capcom stuff. What else... Batman! IMO, all the tracks are awesome. Whether they'd be awesome on piano, I'm not so sure. Super C has a few noteworthy tracks, according to a list of chiptunes I compiled at some point. Tracks 6 and 8 from an NSF. I don't remember why. The title theme from Destiny of an Emperor, and one of the battle themes, though I forget which. Track 3 from "Air Fortress", which is the song used in the sidescrolling parts. Recca is an obscure title, but the music is pretty good. Worth checking out.

TAS, NES, SNES, and possibly OoT are the only acronyms on that list which I slur into monosyllables. Shortening an acronym that has no vowels into a polysyllable word seems very strange to me... except for FiFa-seven. That sounds very Japanese. The hard C in FCEU is striking. It never even occured to me to pronounce it that way. I'd have it as "Effs-yoo". I'd flip the m and u in SMB- sumb. It's a bit awkward having the lips together, then pursed, then together, as it is with the m and b separated by a u. GBA I'd change to Gibbah, for consistency with GBC. Either that, or change GBC to Jeebsee... Like Laughing_Gas posted while I was writing this. Phew. So... how's everyone else spending their Saturday evening? ;)

Genisto's HnF run was one of my favorites. It's nice to see it moving a little faster and digging into the boundaries... not to mention the aiming at the cock. Yes vote.

Indeed. It would be a shame if this one never got finished.

Gouranga! :) I worry about a GTA tas... I mean, so much of the fun of that game came from screwing around, rather than doing the missions normally. Oh well. It'll be awesome either way.

It would have been funnier if you had erased "Joe's" and replaced it with "JXQ'S" ;) Though I'm not sure how random viewers would have appreciated an in-joke like that, they'll probably get what they're looking for from a game called "Vegas Stakes" by watching this movie. Yes vote.

It's hard to tell from one level, but it looks like a good game choice.

The second movie could be shown side-by-side with the main movie, or you could flip between them. (Better yet, if you could get the screen to refresh fast enough to not be seizure-inducing, draw the reference movie on every other frame during frame advance. :P ... nah, just joking.)
I'd say, render simultaneously, with both movies overlapping. Red tint for one movie, blue tint on the other. The overlapping parts look normal. Perhaps with an added tweak to the alpha channel on the background movie to give it a "ghost" effect. Would be neat to look at, if not incredibly useful as well. :)

You forgot to list "awful game" in the movie details. :) It's necessary to have played it to appreciate seeing it get thrashed. Especially the vandal level. Aiming the tomatoes is about as intuitive as trying to catch frisbees with your butt. The rest is watchable... it has some sort of visual appeal, even though it is repetitive and generally uninteresting. I give it a weak yes.

Hmm... You have to consider that Bisqwit has never (to my knowledge) un-published a movie, even though the movie is no longer up to modern standards. To reject an improvement upon such a movie would be illogical.

Rolling Thunder was submission 373? It's entirely possible that if it were submitted now, it would be rejected. We're nearly at the 1500th submission, and the viewers have grown more sophisticated over the years.

It is quite impossible for there to be other Dromiceiuses, as correctly spelling "Dromiceius" is categorically impossible. Of ~11,000 results when googling "Dromiceius" I think I account for a little under 800 of them. The rest are those stupid lists of words, sites selling emu oil, and a bunch of zoologically-inclined scientific websites. But no other weird internet forum guys. There's someone else whose name shortens to "Drom" but that's as close as it gets. My real name is dirt common. In a population of 1 million, there are probably at least six of us. (I'm the original- the rest are my clones.)

I'm not sure why I bothered with 'angry' or 'punish' avatars. I'm not exactly planning to fly off the handle and start chewing people out. No matter how stupid or inane anyone acts, I've probably done about just as good a job of putting my foot in my mouth at some point. Oh well. Check it out: Pretty appropriate, if you ask me. Someone gets angry on an internet forum and it's just yap yap yap... "GRR Haggar smash!" It's hard to make the Magus look any more pissed off than he is by default. Without chibi-fying it, at least. I went a KB over the size limit... I guess it's good that I'll never actually use it. :D Meanwhile, my 'comfort' variant looks like he's being kancho'd. I meant for it to convey extreme surprise, which 'kancho' certainly covers.

Not a quick half hour, but my interest didn't actually flag at any point. The technical merit of this movie is naturally very impressive, and I appreciated knowing about the glitches before viewing. Somehow, watching a robot behave randomly during a long stretch of auto-scrolling was a lot more interesting than watching a human try to do so. Yes vote. Edit: Thats... odd. Did I just vote no?

So... Can I use Japanese version, everyone? (I haven't made any WIPs yet. I'm currently testing various things) If a Japanese run is not allowed, I'll make the run with USA version. But if it is allowed, I'll definitely make the run with Japanese version. I'd like to hear opinions more.
I usually don't care much one way or the other, but in this case, I feel that using the English version would detract from the illucidity of the game. がんばれ!がんばれ!がんばれ! :D

I played Tetris Attack against myself, at 12% speed. I couldn't really get the hang of watching both screens, so my attention kinda ping-pongs back and forth. I owned myself good. I started round two using frame advance. I wish I'd continued, just to see how fast I could fill player 2's screen with garbage.

A different number of letters/characters in the text will cause desyncs almost immediately. ...At least, that's what usually happens.

I know that dodgeball has dodgeballs, but I don't think it has ball advance. Are there any emulators for Mac with ball dodging and dodging of balls?

Would a DOS version of MAME run in DOSBox? Emulating an emulator is like school in the summertime* and all, so it probably wouldn't be acceptable to submit those movies to the site, but for poops and giggles? *No class.

Not as good as the Ryu one but still worth a check to see a example how to play with Cammy. PS: She also has one of the best endings IMO.
Nice! It was interesting that you had trouble with Deejay- he's a tough nut to crack using Cammy, it seems. Thanks for the video. :)

Haha! Surprise that someone from Finland requested 'across'. :D I agree though. It would be awesome to see someone crunch the world records of that game.
I had no idea that game was so popular. I played for hours on end when I was a kid... and yes, a TAS of that would be awesome. Now, I must put forward the blatantly obvious: Worms. Just imagine.
