A maximum score run of Tyrian. I always wondered exactly how much can be destroyed, starting off with that dinky little vulcan. I mentioned Death Rally in the DOSBox thread. It's a good pick, IMO, because there's a borderline-impossible challenge involved. In the game, there are three different races which occur concurrently every round. Easy, Medium, and Hard. They pay off something like $250, $4000, and $10000, respectively. Obviously, you'd want to take on the Hard race immediately, but with the starting car, you'd be lucky to place last, rather than be slain by the other drivers. ...But in a TAS? Hard to say whether that could work or not. And I guess it's kinda obvious since King's Quest has been suggested, but... Leisure Suit Larry.

Ha... I'll have to get Death Rally and make a video of myself shooting spectators while driving full-speed in a deliverator. :D

Not the most interesting game, but the dog-boosting is impressive. It occasionally lags, but it doesn't look like there's any sensible way to prevent that, unless perhaps the dog can be manipulated to kill more stuff whilst flying around. It could have been stylistically better if you had done something clever while waiting for the levels to end. You seemed to jump around randomly. But, it's hard to fault someone because he didn't "do something clever" so it's not a big deal. Voted crotch-chomp. I mean, Yes.

In an actual game.
In order of absurdity: 1) Cat anus. 2) Breastfeeding. 3) Clown-based Tetris. 4) Hentai dating sims. Can't really call those "actual games", but I could list a dozen things I never thought I'd see just from that category. At this point, the only thing I truly never expect to ever see in a video game is a old woman who has twenty feet of gray pubic hair, which she uses as a rope like in Rapunzel. Anything other than that exact scenario is fair game. Also, Gregg Valentino is pumped full of Contra.

Anyways, I had a desynch watching it in Fast forward (right after Galys Pass) so try to watch that part in normal speed... if it desynchs anyways oh well
Yeah, it de-synced right about there. It looks like recording isn't bulletproof for this game. :(

Yes indeed. ...Dare I ask, would you be able to pull off something like that with Cammy?

Stage 5 reminded me of playing the waterfall level of Contra with my brother... 'cept we never played like that on purpose. :)
We were a bit unlucky with having two players this time. Since with two players, the player ahead isn't centered, but walks a little to the right from the center. This is why the player in front reaches a certain point about 18 frames sooner, and has to wait for 15 frames because of this (and this is thus not noticable in a single player run). There were also a few frames saved on the final boss.
It seems improbable, but could you have saved any time by making one of the players game-over?

You don't need to understand it... I don't see why you would, anyway. Have you tried letting the ROM play/load for ten seconds before starting the movie? Edit: Gorash's (Randil's?) test runs work fine as long as you have "enable multitap" checked before loading the smv.

I was thinking during the autoscroll level "Man, I wish he'd let one of those big crates land on--" *thud* YEAH! Good game choice, no apparent flaws. Good music to dance to. Yes++

I was experimenting with memory addresses in Rushing Beat Shura (J) and made a funny. It was made with a cheat, rather than a glitch, but the cheat is stored in the movie's RAM. Drom Drum vs Al

Eh, not quite. Balthazar is the guru of reason, and he gets sent to the future. I'm not sure if that makes it more or less "interesting". It's a bit off topic, at any rate. The forum over at www.chronocompendium.com digs this kind of thing, though.

if memory addresses for speed are discovered for both player racers, then i think the difficulty of making a tas for this game will decrease dramatically.
Player 1's speed is at 7e0048. Player 2 is 7e0049. Good luck. :)

I have another question I am asking to everyone who reads this thread. I know that I can probably save a few seconds if I redo this speed run and make it look cosmetically a bit better. I also know that this run is a little boring. Knowing that, I don't know if it is worth it to spend a few hours making it a few seconds faster if it has no chance to be accepted as a speed run. I assume the answer is it won't, but I would like to hear your opinion.
Yeah... this is a terrible choice of game. On top of being a cheap, generic cash-in on a popular movie franchise, it seems to be so simplistically programmed that there are no glitches or even luck to manipulate. IMO, your time with this game would be better spent searching for a bug severe enough that you can exploit the hell out of it, and save a lot of time. I can't imagine this game getting a lot of votes, otherwise.

This is exactly what a 2-player TAS should look like. Having two players, the characters move independently of each other, and the performance is much more natural. It didn't get the feeling I was watching a TAS, so much as it felt like watching two insane ninjas going on a rampage... and occasionally stopping play leap-frog. The Area 4 boss in particular was annihilated beautifully. Bravo, AdeliBax. :D

DjDain's NeverDie 8 minutes, with time for a title screen. There's a lot of build up, and the intensity varies quite a bit, so one could show off a lot of different types of stuff.

Call me crazy, but I was sure #55 would read ASS instead. Great movie, both for sheer excellence, and charming novelty.

Normally, I'd be all for using the Japanese version, but I'm actually pretty convinced that English would be the better way to go. I'm kinda curious about an all-sidequests run... would any of the extra items offset the time spent leveling, or do the current runs pick the game clean of the best stuff? For that matter, would the Lavos battle be faster using Ayla's dino tail (as in the new time attack, if I recall/translate correctly) combined with Magus's attack-spamming? I imagine Marle would cast haste on Magus. Ayla uses dino tail, killing the left bit, then she either uses it again to possibly finish off the middle body, and/or gets smacked down, allowing Magus to fully go nuts. Should I shut up because I have no intention of investigating any of this myself? ;)

I've been working on the exact same problem with 7th Saga for the last three days or so. Basically, you need to either find the RNG in memory, or enemy HP... I recommend the latter, since you probably already have it. :) Use the Enemy HP address as a breakpoint in Geiger's debugger. Now when you damage an enemy, it'll tell you which bank and subroutines you're dealing with. Step through, and it will eventually take you to the right subroutine. I'd recommend using a disassembler to get a broader view of what's happening. ...At least, that's what worked for me.
Average Damage = 1/2 * (Attack Power – Defense)
I think the really tricky part in all of this is that there's no opcode for multiplication. In 7th saga, all I found was the Accumulator loading and storing to three or four memory addresses over and over, with a bunch of roll and shift operations in a loop. I'm not exactly sure how to use that for TASing purposes, but I guess it would involve writing a program that can watch the memory, do the RNG calculations and return the outcome at any given moment. Hope that helps.

Romancing SaGa 3 strikes me as having potential. Language barrier aside, it's highly non-linear for an RPG. Crazy strategies abound, I'm sure.

Had some fun this afternoon. I got all the way to Melenam using Lux and Esuna, playing at 85% most of the time. It turned out quite a bit better than I had expected. Lux doesn't need equipment, and he hits harder than the alien, so I managed to kill Romus at level 3. In retrospect, I should have bought two b power at the start, manipulated a bunch of potions (as I did after killing Romus, just to see if I could) and then bought one or two b prtct before taking on Romus. None of the apprenti wanted to fight me, not that I think fighting an apprentice would be a good use of time, so I ended up using my last b power on a Trick to get a sapphire. ...I probably should have joined with the Demon. He learns vacuum earlier than Esuna, IIRC, and I can use that to kill brains/everything. Then again, vacuum is expensive; Valsu's buffing spells are cheap, and can be used against bosses. Anyway, it's probably possible to get to Melenam in 20 minutes using a more efficient strategy, (sans backtracking) and with better fight evasion and manipulation, especially on the overworld... If I learned anything from doing this, it's that regular battles aren't worth diddly-squat compared to bosses. Movie.

which is something quite different. have you actually played the game in japanese? i don't trust your translation, but unfortunately reading japanese is very tedious for me. for example, trying to figure out what the hell "konashiteita" means.
My translation was deliberately rushed, as it was primarily a search for the most salient information. I also assumed that section 5 would make sense mainly from context and the runner's own knowledge of the game, even if it has some mistakes in the translation. After all, you shouldn't be dependent on the guide says, since this is a TAS and not a time attack, and even the author of the report states that even though his strategy is an improvement, it isn't necessarily perfect. Section 6, on the other hand, I've taken my time with so far, since the complexity of the grammar and importance of the details are considerable. ...Of course, it remains to be seen if the boss strategies can actually work in a TAS as they do in a segmented speedrun, so you may be on your own there, with or without a translation. I think I'll probably continue for the sake of the accomplishment, if nothing else. Or at least edit section 5.

you think? i thought this opportunity would be jumped upon, but now that it seems that that isn't the case, i'm seriously considering doing the run. and if i do, i'll probably do it in japanese, both because hero of the day said the text part would be significantly faster, and because the english translation sucks.
Cool. Are you going to want the rest of the time attack report translated?
