I'm still hoping someone will do RCR. Obsolete Sleepz' fmv, and all that.

That wouldn't make TASing impossible. It would simply cause the TASer to need to find the optimal strategy, the optimal compromise between speed and difficulty which minimizes the overall time.
Definitely. I just interpreted "TAS proof" to mean something that closes the gap between TAS and speedrun, while maintaining the characteristics of a game.

The Peace Keepers comes to mind. It's a side-scrolling beat-em-up that takes about 20 minutes to get through, give or take a few minutes depending on which of the dozen or so splits in the path the player takes. It could become extremely time consuming to run each path for comparison. All I can think of that Myria didn't already suggest is to make the game that has no winning outcomes, like a tic-tac-toe AI who intentionally draws every round. Edit: or better, something that simply doesn't end, like Galaga. Or maybe if the game penalizes the player for playing too well? Detecting and somehow deterring frame-perfect input, for example. Or reaching the end of level 1 in less than X seconds makes level 2 proportionately harder.

The term is "rail shooter" isn't it? Gih. Whatever. ;) I love the game, and there are a couple reasons why it would be worth tasing. The Cyberdyne level would be the reason to watch. You have to destroy X number of objects- so use 2 players and wreck absolutely everything. That's not something that can be done in realtime, I don't think. Then there are those two chase levels. The damnable red truck always blowing up at the end... it would be nice to see that part being owned with a rusty spoon. I don't think it's even possible to make it through without the truck taking damage, but if it can, that's something. The helicopter chase wasn't nearly as hard as the first chase, but it would be funny to see how little of the helicopter can actually make it onto the screen before being repelled. The skynet fight. At inhuman speed. Could be neat.

Was the Atari 2600 the system that had that godawful E.T. game? (The one with a million unsellable cartridges buried in Nevada?) Edit: To answer my own questions, Yes. I'd watch that and maybe Asteroids if that's even available for this system, but mainly for the sake of novelty rather than genuine TAS-awesomeness.

Definitely enjoyed that. Kinda lukewarm, since while it is a successful pacifist run, there weren't many surprises along the way. Still a yes vote, overall.

I liked the bit with the timed dynamite... because knocking them onto the spikes isn't mean enough- you have to immolate the corpses, too! -Superfluous yes vote.

Text is pretty slow as it is in this game, IIRC, so I think a 5 frame delay for each page of text might be appropriate. Especially if you keep track of exactly how many frames you gave up and report it in the submission text.

Also, the scarecrow song, I want something good/imaginative/different. I have a few ideas running around my head, but I am definitely open to others.
Theme from The Mask? Not very recognizable, but kinda clever. The map theme from ff6? No sharps or flats there, either, IIRC.

I'm sure I never got past level 8 or so, so I'm fairly interested to see the entire thing done. Though, if it were me, I'd only do the run if I had some particularly interesting solutions to the puzzles, which couldn't be found in a faq/walkthrough... which assumes that there are multiple solutions, but there you go.

The final product will be a lot more entertaining if you watch the run as a whole, and it will have more surprises.
I avoided even looking at this thread for exactly that reason. But, if it helps motivate, as soon as I get a computer that could possibly display such a movie properly, this will be be the first one I watch.
Someone suggested I ask in a Megaman thread. ;3

o there are many reasons. A TAS for EarthBound Zero was being discussed a little until I joined in the conversation. Apparently I'm a thread killer or something. >>
Tsk. Join in on some Megaman discussions and maybe someone will switch over to Mother. I also wanted to mention a little NES gem called Nekketsu Kakutou Densetsu... or was it Monogatari? Either way, it's a 2-on-2 tournament-style fighting game made by Technos in the style of River City Ransom, and it has much the same feel to it. The only drawback is that a pure speedrun of this game would be repetitive and boring instead of artistic and awesome.

I think (Blublu's?) Solar Jetman run deserves more recognition. I just wish it were a 100% run.

Doesn't live up to own potential; whines about it on a blog. (Ouch! I think I just took myself down a peg.)

Rambo
I think Rambo was rejected for being long and boring.
EarthBound Zero AKA Mother. I don't think it's really had a lot of serious discussion.
If you want a run of it so badly, why don't you do it?

I think 2 player simultaneous is the only way to even try to make the entire thing watchable, but even then it's a huge stretch. It's probably a question of how badly two players, in conjunction, can glitch the game, assuming there are any good glitches to be found. The answer to that might be found by simply getting a second player and just trying everything... while high, no doubt. ;)

Oh, yeah... I forgot about this game. I knew ten years ago how cool it would be to see the tomato game played perfectly. Did it in about 3200 frames. Yee-haw. Best of luck, VANDAL.

Not bad. Kind of ugly, the way you bump against the tanks. I guess it's desirable, or you wouldn't have. My first impression is that this game is a washed-out version of Power Blade, which has a published run... I think it predates frame-advance, so it probably needs an improved version. Maybe that's more worth your time?

That could certainly be handy... Huh. It's a shame it uses the filenames instead of the game titles. Nekketsu Kakutou Densetsu is listed as Nek-Kaku.nsf. Nothing to be done about that, I guess. However, would it be possible to have the keyboard make sounds when the keys are struck? I can't imagine knowing a song by rote and having no idea which game it came from. Maybe it's me, but remembering a melody by ear comes much more naturally. Being able to narrow the search down to a single system would also be good. Edit: Found the base theme from Contra! a#1 a# >c# < a# >e d# c# Edit again: Thanks Bisqwit.

Wouldn't be that difficult to run, would it? Assuming it's as simple as it seems....

Egads! I guess it bears testing... ;)
