Wait a minute... Dasrik, have you considered TASing the SNES version of this game?

IMO, you should do whatever you stand to learn the most from for the least amount of time and effort. Whatever that is, is your call. I'm glad someone's picked up another Technos game. Rock on, Dasrik.

I don't mind Bag. He's not particularly funny, either... lots of forums have a guy whose attention seeking makes them more a target for abuse than respect. Nitsuja's comment was accurate, I think. He's usually on topic when he should be. His perceptions are probably more the result of the sheer volume of his postings.

"Zan's constant yelling" Makes me smile. Wears on the ears after awhile, but a "problem" like this doesn't come up much in normal play, IMO, and is amusing. I wholeheartedly support dancing in this, and in all TAS movies. The aesthetic skill shown in this movie up to this point has been well above par. I have nothing of any real use to say, though, so I think I'll stop talking.

I'd certainly like to see the rest of it... more for the sake of nostalgia than balls to the walls, glitched-out TAS action. Well played, but boring so far.

Wow. Well, now we know. Thanks for the information. I think I might do some experimenting with this...

Many of the enemies shout something before attacking. In this movie, all but one (which slipped my notice) shout the most ridiculous-sounding sample in the game: "You can't shoot me!" ...immediately before being shot, of course.

Is anyone interested in running this, this year? I have a little info to share... There doesn't seem to be any excuse for getting into unwanted battles. I ran all the way to the first boss without having fought anything. The boss, of course, murdered poor A in one hit, and there doesn't seem to be any luck manipulation in dungeon-battles, aside from starting the battle at a different frame. Overworld battles, however, can be manipulated to some extent. It'll take some doing, but I can probably figure out which address(es) to watch in order to hit every time/score better damage/more criticals/dodge more often. I might figure it out for it's own sake, but would anyone consider using the information? PS. I had movies, but dehacked isn't accepting movies made with Snes9x 1.5. Boo-urns! :p

It might be more interesting to choose the Air Blade as the vehicle choice, because it's nearly as crappy, but you'd be able to utilize it's dropper weapon throughout the whole game. The BF Slipsauce that the Marauder and Dirt Devil equip is useless against Battle Traks and Havaks. It's possible to get the Air Blade after the 6th race if you take first, and pick up 10 kills and / or money bonuses along the way. Oh, also I've found that the Lightning Nitro can produce some way more interesting stunts and shortcuts than the Locust Jumpjets.
I'd definitely like to see that... though just to be clear, you're probably not going to get anything published TASing this game.
What's a good Genesis emulator to use for a TAS video? I have Genesis Fusion v3.4 right now, but have only used it for casual play. The only emulator tools I've used were the cheat search functions in SNES9x. I made some pretty cool codes though. Maybe when I've got some free time, I'll try it out. Abusing the AI is always fun, right?
We use Gens. Here's a recent version: http://invhost.com/share/9j_bugfix.zip Fun is right. :) Good luck.

I had to play around a bit to figure out what the hell happened in this movie. Always nice to see a game beaten in half a second. Yes vote.

Ah... I agree and disagree. He could have done those things, but that would have meant upgrading from that dinky little Maurader. He could have upgraded if finishing quickly was the priority... but finishing quickly in a racing game shows a decided lack of imagination, I think. That is to say, TASes of racing games will either be entertainment runs with ridiculous limitations to make things interesting, or gruefood, like Rad Racer.

Yes, yes, YES! I had no idea a thread was already started on this. I actually attempted this a while back. Not a proper TAS, but something I did for fun... it got deleted, unfortunately. I used Elfin and Dick in the Japanese version. IIRC, the English version makes it hard to skip the dialogue; you can't just hold down the start button to dismiss the text. The inclusion of the spider-bots might not be a good thing, in terms of TASing. The hit detection on those things is a little clumsy compared to the "Squash" enemies that replaced them in the English versions. Elfin's running knee-thrust seems like a good complement to Dick's half-circle throw... You probably wouldn't want to use Elfin's HC-throw, as it tends to launch the enemy out of the screen. I think Orbot might be worth testing, as he (it?) has those "Go!" dash attacks (for the sake of movement), and generally dishes it out like a badass, alternating between his x-charge and grapples. It could be that he would be useful in some levels, but not others. Fortunately, characters are reselected at the start of every level, so that's another demension to the strategy; another reason to TAS the hell out of this game. For information's sake, Orbot and Norton are enabled by pressing and holding L+R+A (the shoulder buttons, not the D-pad) during the opening logos, up until the title screen. As for routes... I don't know much offhand, but I'm sure Ozymandias would be a smart choice- all those pits everywhere, just asking for enemies to be tossed in. Snake Pliskin would be a bad choice. Long and brutal, and the bosses have uninterruptable attacks, which might be difficult to avoid. Taking the underground path to the Crazy Horse and letting it crash is probably unworkable compared to the Airport route... those Thirdons are laggy as hell. Damn pirates. By and large, the routes are small choices, made between a lab that has spike pits, and an identical lab with electrical fields. There's also the occasional scientist hidden here and there- it's probably worth including them in the path if it means avoiding enemies. -And that's a big if. The big question probably lies in choosing which to fight first: Connor or Jesse. Onto the miscellany... Invulnerability is tricky. You can be shot by orbots while in grapples, IIRC. Flynn's A-attack, however, is less vulnerable. I think only Yamaoka's horridly cheap throw attacks can take priority over the A-attack, but I'm not entirely certain. One more thing I would test: have player 2 join in after the action has started. I think it'll save a couple frames from that first selection screen. Dick/Flynn's Super Saiyan mode can be invoked repeatedly- he just needs to recover some health and then get his ass handed to him again- an obvious time waster, which is why I think it might be worthwhile to keep friendly fire enabled. To have Elfin slap Dick around during the brief pauses here and there (waiting for scrolling, etc) could have him ready to transform for the boss fight. The bosses, however, I found to be easiest disposed of using infinite combos... Maybe not quickest, however. It's possible to grapple and let go with the X button cheer thing in order to buy a few frames, thus preventing a knockdown blow. That X-cheer might be useful for AI manipulation. You never know. I'm not sure when, if ever, one would use the X+A attacks. They're very time consuming, and don't do that much damage compared to straight fighting... I guess Kira and Onido? ...Any takers?

There was a thread back in January in the SNES forum... http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3238&start=0 In any event, the runner did a good job through the first 75% of the game, then his bag of tricks ran dry and he quit. You should watch his run(s) and try to cook up some new devilry. It'll be good. (And maybe switch to the SNES version unless you can think of a reason not to, since everybody hates Genesis. ;))

Marvellous... All I can say is that you need to shoot the orc while waiting for the iced tea. :)

I recommend Vancouver, BC. Everyone says it's the nicest part of Canada, which most agree is a pretty nice country. The people there (though I haven't been there personally) are supposedly some of the friendliest and most forward-thinking you'll find anywhere. The weather's nice, too. Of course, our elected officials are a joke, but that's probably true of every country on the planet that has elected officials. Except maybe Switzerland. Try Switzerland.

Thanks for the info. I'm still digging through it. I was experimenting today with manipulating critical hits, and possible L+R glitches. ...And now I've tracked down Lunar Address. Good for me! I'll let you know if I find anything juicy.

Lethal Enforcers. What started as an experiment in luck manipulation became a five minute orgy of stupidity. Now if I could just make the hostages say it...

I need a hand finding the address' that handle either the damage done by the king, or the one(s) that handle the odds of a hit connecting (for both him and me). The max damage I can do is 2, regardless of whether or not I up my firearms skills (this is why I decided to skip the other fights for karma). This fight will likely take about 15 seconds to complete (1 shot per 40 frames, he's got 45 hp and I can do 2 damage per shot, so [(45/2)*40]/60 ... i think :P)
I'm not sure if that's possible... I'm way rusty at this. Nevertheless, I would surmise that one could do a memory search of an enemy's (any enemy's) HP, and in that area of the RAM, one would find three or four (or however many enemies this game can handle simultaneously) sets of enemy stats which would hopefully include their damage, attack rating etc. In other words, since you found King's health at 7e2fa6, you'd likely find something else about king at a5 and a7... Damnation. Now I'll be walking around all day thinking about hex. The King fight looked good, by the way.

Fabulous! Thanks Saturn. I think it'll be awhile before I have any WIPs to post. I'll be reading tonight, in the couple hours I can set aside for this project. After that, I'm going to want to figure out how to manipulate the level-up stat increases, if it's at all possible. Seems as good an excuse as any to learn more ASM, which I've been meaning to do for ages. :D Edit: Found a chart just now. Seriously? The bonuses aren't random at all? Edit: Referrer link blah blah...

Thanks for the advice. I found the patch on Zophar. Huzzah. I also found a topic on SDA, but *yawn* I'll have to trawl through all that tomorrow.

Damn... I'm really tempted to give this a go. Saturn's real-time movie has killed many an inconvenient afternoon for me over the last year, so it would be satisfying to see it get smashed. I remember either Saturn or Nitsuja did a WIP of the five towers at some point. Anybody know where that is?

Looks alright to me. That is to say, knowing what little I know about the game, you seem to have TAS'ed the hell out of it. I'll be keeping an eye on this. Good show.
