Rerecord count is actually around 59000 due to the final assembly of inputs in another file not quite having the total number.
Would it be better if we just set the rerecord count to "Unknown" in this case?

It’s because the current site code doesn’t combine the same game on two different platforms (this being Linux and Windows). However for Linux and Windows crossover, it should be combined. This could be written as a ticket on the site github.

I see nothing wrong with how this TAS reached the ending. It’s not like the game doesn’t reach some sort of ending, because it does. It’s just the game became so broken that it couldn’t finish itself. I don’t see anything wrong with how it turned out.

So this submission has run into a major road block. I am finding it impossible to find the specific version of the game this TAS uses on any game store I could find. Steam and Itch.io do not have this early of a version available (the earliest version was the one that added co-op), and the Epic Games Store as far as I know doesn’t let you download older versions of games. I am going to message the Devs for this game and ask if I can obtain this specific version.

I actually attempted at TASing this a few years ago because of your GDQ run. But I gave up in stage 2 because of lag in the UFO section. I would be open to picking it back up and helping out if you want.

It was already explained in this very thread.
This movie is not aiming for the goal of shortest input, but of shortest game completion. There’s nothing in the rules that state it HAS to be the former.
The other thing too is there’s clear moments in the TAS that are not simply holding one direction the entire time. The very first level for one needs to have Barney wait on a raft that goes faster than his movement speed, and the TAS has to wait till the very end of that platform speed before jumping off to maximize it.
I also think it’s incredibly insulting to call this an abomination as the authors made it VERY clear in their submission text that this game is not trivial.

Autoplay shouldn’t be taken into consideration when we’re talking about ending input for this game. Instead it’s ending input for when Barney stops moving when letting go of the direction button. I don’t see anything wrong with that.

Hard mode is really redundant for TASing nowadays. I didn’t think it was a good idea in the past to require it for submissions and this is exactly why I’m glad it’s not a requirement. Having it only change up small parts of the run is not enough to make it worth it imo.
