Small things like that can lead to significant changes in both routing and execution. The lack of tails in Solo Sonic means that Level wraps cant be done in zones like hydro city for example. This gives Solo Sonic a chance to show what the fastest movement in that stage can look like. I dont think the focus should be on what changes were made to the Character, but how those affect the run overall.

I don't see what the issue is here. Both Sonic Solo and Tails Solo go though each stage differently. Sonic of course used alot of spin dashing, Tails uses a combination of both spin dashing AND flying. Tails is also able to perform level wraps on his own, and doesn't need Sonic to do them. With Sonic + Tails, it's the best of both worlds, while it also introduces very interesting glitches such as the Knuckles intro at the beginning. It's not like Sonic+Tales features all the content you can get from Sonic Solo for example, so I dont think it's that big of an issue here.

I’ll just give some of my thoughts here.
It’s a bit of a strange and unfortunate situation for a game like this. One where there’s unique content that can be showcased for each character. Due to this, It makes sense why there would be multiple categories made for this game. But I believe the rule for limiting branches of games unfairly targets games like this.
I fully expect some comparisons to be made between this and Super Metroid, where there was an over-saturation of branches for that game. I have to disagree with that comparison because that’s not a game that offers different play styles in the same was as SK3. For one, you only play as one character throughout the game, and branches for that game would be completely community created (besides any% and 100% obviously). Speedrunners can come up with many different branches for games like that to spice things up if any% or 100% becomes stale. Where as for Sonic 3, the branches for speedruns are not community created, with the exception being Ring Attack and NewGame+. The other branches are game modes that each have unique things to each one. They have always been there even before speedrunning became a thing. To me, the limitation of branches makes more sense for Super Metroid than Sonic 3 because Sonic 3 gives you more content to increase replay-ability, where as SM doesn’t exactly do that.
I think the rule should really apply to limit the amount of community created branches for each game, not for branches offered by the game. If there’s worry about a game’s number of branches flooding the movie page, then maybe we should be changing the way movies are displayed on that page instead. But that’s a different discussion for another time.
Like what others said I also believe feos will make the right decision in the end, I just don’t believe the rule for limiting branches is targeting the right games.

Welp, turns out I was wrong about the snakes in stage 2. If you have the 2nd power-up you can actually jump high enough to kill them faster. So that saved 4.6 seconds.

I found a comic on Reddit today that shows common signs of undiagnosed ADHD, and how that can lead to some forms of depression.
I have personally related to each one of these experiences, and I believe it has caused issues with my life as a whole. That’s not to say this is the only way some may experience depression, but it does personally speak to me as someone who does suffer from high functioning autism and ADHD.

I will admit that it can be tricky to know for sure how much time you’re saving with improved emulation, and it really depends on the game in most cases.
One really simple way is to subtract the amount of lag frames in the game, this can be from taking the total lag frames and subtract it from the total frame count. However this may not always be accurate since some games may handle lag frames differently. A more consistent method would be by comparing each stage or area by their frame counts, and ignore loading areas. A good example from one of my submissions was the judgement from my Splatterhouse 2 submission last year: http://tasvideos.org/6338S.html. Here, slamo created a chart that had a standard start time for each stage. This could be something like the first instance of movement from the character, or as soon as the screen fully fades in.
The other thing that can help is if you have a memory address that represents in game time, and it stays consistent even if the game has lag in it, that can usually be the best option to use as well. But that’s assuming the game you’re doing has that.
One thing I personally like to do is to import movies into the emulator I work with, and see if I can get it to sync and compare my wips with that. However I cant guarantee this to work every time since some games may have a varying amount of emulation differences, especially if RNG changes because of it.
So in general there are ways to compare movies that also removes emulation differences, and I’ll admit they aren’t always the most convenient to use. Personally I feel like I’m pretty experienced with movie comparisons in regards to emulation, so I’m used to it, but I understand why most people aren’t. If you are unsure if you’re saving time over an older movie because you aren’t sure if it’s just an emulation difference, there’s people on the site that are willing to help you figure it out.
Sorry for the wall of text, I just have alot to say about this topic.
EDIT: That being said, at the end of the day, Gens is still an accepted emulator. People are still free to use it if they wish. It's definitely not the worst emulator the site that's still being accepted, but that's also not saying very much. If you wish to use it, then that is your choice. People just generally don't like Gens due to how incredibly inaccurate and outdated it is.

[4153] PSX Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation by Troye in 1:01:42.98
This movie is incredibly well crafted and entertaining.
The previous movies for Tomb Raider games were also good, but alot of them felt boring in most parts, like with cutscenes, backtracking, dark rooms, etc. But this movie feels different as it contains alot more action, and the unskippable cutscenes are fairly small compared to the other games.
This game also has alot more crazy stuff happening, with a heavy use of the flair glitch (which lets you clip into walls) that either spawns Lara to a higher platform, or use a jump to clip though walls (Lara being motionless during those jumps is also pretty amusing). Overall, I did not feel bored watching this movie, I was entertained throughout. I think it deserves a star.

This seems to be an issue with the site dealing with gbc games that also work in gb mode, a simmilar issue happened with this submission as well: http://tasvideos.org/4070M.html, though from what I can tell, that game is GBC only, so no idea why it didn’t do it correctly.
