I'm not judging the whole game here. I just hated the sheer amount of traveling cut scenes. XD To someone who's never played the game before, the end boss just looks like one long cut scene. I love the soundtrack for this game though. After watching the run, I went and listened to a bunch of it on the internet, and it's really great. Plus it's such a huge soundtrack. There's a different song for pretty much every place. Oh, I listened to the commentary until the part where Ness stands behind the waterfall. I stupidly fast forwarded that part and forgot to adjust the commentary, so it started taking about the burp monster about 3 minutes after he was defeated. :P I always wanted to play this game, but never made myself do it. I have trouble making myself play new RPGs. The lyrics I made may sound like I'm bashing the game and the run, but that's not my intension. My brother and I always make insulting words to games songs when we're frustrated, even if we really love the game. Oh, and I was startled to see the name Electrospecter in the game. I thought "So THAT'S where he got that!" (meaning your username)
I'll agree with you that the Skyrunner scenes are exceptionally long, and definitely not suited to a TAS... you should see the Mr. Saturn coffee scene and the Tenda tea scene, haha. And I understand about making insulting words to game songs... in fact, I can usually be found verbally abusing any character from a game where I get frustrated playing! And yeah, this is where my avatar originated from... I am killed in this run. In fact, Halamantariel, when you submit the new run, you should add to the run notes: - Kills a forum member.

I also thought the final boss was the stupidest final boss ever.
You cannot comprehend giygas's true form! Seriously, please reserve your judgment for this game until after you've played through it yourself. While the TAS is highly awesome on several levels, it doesn't do the game justice (mostly because the game's dialog isn't really touched upon during the TAS). Also, I just watched this run again about a week ago... Great job on the manipulations.

I never watched the previous run of this, but this is pretty amazing. I like to think about what the programmers would think if they saw runs like this. I loled, so yes vote.

Thanks :) Yeah, that short stretch up top... I think it was too short to warrant a change, if I recall correctly.

At the end of Level 1 (second time) I switched to the Aerial Gargoyle because it saves time getting out of the pit and also flying up to the breakable blocks (don't have to wait for those platforms). At the beginning of the final level, Ground Gargoyle is fairly useless, due to the large amount of lag he creates when the jesters jump through the window, and his limited jumping area due to the stupid crossbows on the ceiling. Unfortunately, this is one of those things that I tested a long time ago and decided that the L. Gargoyle was faster, so I don't remember my exact times for comparison; it's probably pretty close though. I have to switch back to L. Goyle anyway for Hippogryph. About the swimming: although holding A is slightly faster than B swimming, I should have only held A for the longer straight segments. You're right, and I definitely could have saved time there. I guess I'll chalk this up as an improvement if I work on this again.

Ah yeah, that's one of those things where I decided a long time ago (when I wasn't so good at TASing) that Method A was faster than Method B. I guess I just assumed while recording this new run that I was correct way back when, but it's definitely possible that i was thoroughly wrong...

The Cracked Bat is necessary to leave the house IIRC. Pokey won't let you leave without it.

Screenshot Ideas: (Crap, I forgot to hit the screen capture button a frame early, so these pictures are all a frame later than I wanted them to be, but they give the same general idea; for the pictures with the enemies flashing, just imagine them not flashing and you have your screenshot).

No canceling this time! The mentioned version of SNES9x is in my sig, which is partly why I'm posting. EDIT: Should have known the link was broken, I'll have to find it somewhere. EDIT 2: Well, it seems to work fine on other version anyway. So go for it!

I'm due to visit the Big Apple in July sometime as well. (We have a free place to stay and found $1 bus tickets; we'd be crazy not to go). The friend I'm going with grew up there, so he knows the ins and outs of the city. If I visit on a weekend that you're in NY, I'll try to get in touch with you if you'd like.

I've been working diligently on the new run, and have restored what I lost and then some. I'm currently on Arma 2 (still using the revised route a few posts back). This is the second to last tough fight to manipulate (Flame Lord will be the final tough hurdle) and so things should pick up really fast after that. I'm not going to post any WIPs, but if you're interested in privately critiquing the run, just send a PM.

Sorry. It should imply that you are getting the skills that are specific to characters.
Gotcha. Incidentally, I'd probably watch a run that got all the skills (including Rages), even though I'm sure a lot of people wouldn't.

I am apparently the guitarist in the band Zwan (http://www.pumpkins.it/zwan/images/matt.gif), and some sort of football player. I've also seen people that physically look like me, so much that it's scary.

Don't you basically re-trace Sabin's scenario from the river back to Narshe, on foot, after you get the Airship? (It is very long, I just want to confirm this is how to do it.)
As I recall, yeah, that's the way I did it, and I think the only way to do it.

I'm pretty sure Sabin can learn Bum Rush with leveling. I seem to remember being surprised when I used the Lete River leveling trick as a kid, and came back to Sabin having all the Blitzes. Also, saying "all skills (character specific)" seems to imply that you'd only get skills for specific characters. Which is why I was wondering. And the dances are easy to get, but I seem to remember that the Water Rondo took a lot of time and map movement to get.

Would "all-skill (character specific)" mean getting all the Blitzes and Swordtechs but skipping the Rages, Lores, and Dances? Edit: Well, even leveling Cyan and Sabin up to get those would be tedious. Probably the only entertaining skill collection would be Lores.

I could only find two different ROMs, neither (J) version, and both were very very different games (despite having the same level layout). Neither synced up correctly.

I'd probably have to vote against "at least one of every item" since it means you'd have to do pointless stuff like buy the Super Ball. And it seems to just fall into hazy category anyway.

Hey, here is a great idea: don't do a 100% run, do an all-characters run.
Seconded. More of a "100% Plot" run.

What do you mean by 100% of items? Out of curiosity. I absolutely agree that a 100% TAS shouldn't include Gau's Rages, as that would be mind numbingly boring.

I would love to see a 100% TAS of this game, there are so many bugs and glitches that can be used to great effect. The hardest parts would probably be planning Milky Way Wishes and Arena (for MWW it's probably best to get the flame ability first, since it allows much traveling through walls). Off topic: I've been to State College sort of recently to help my friend set up to play a basement show!

Voting yes, also requesting that the screenshot be: "Go! 999999999999999999999999999999999999999..."

Wakka/Luna - FFX. Never played X-2 because neither of those two (nor Tidus, and whom all 3 were my constant team) were playable. :'( Also, Wakka was voiced by the guy who voiced Bender in Futurama.
Dee Bradley Baker was also a voice actor for FFX (Lord Braska/Benzo/Ayde Ronso). He was also Olmec, the talking stone head, from Legends of the Hidden Temple. And I think he did Wakka's voice in Kingdom Hearts.

I always hated that about 100% runs in general. When I do them for myself, I have to make arbitrary guidelines where I will draw the line between what's fun (for me), and what's just tedious. For example, I would feel achieved if I got all of Gau's attainable rages, but I think it would be pointless to get as many as possible of each item, especially since this would involve using Morph and excessive coliseum battles. Even though a file with the maximum amount of each item would technically be more complete, it seems way too much of a task, especially in this game.

That's another thing that's vague... If you ban stuff like instant death attacks, would you ban stuff like the Economizer? What a silly game :]
