That video made me remind how epic Sonic Adventure (DX) is. I was nostalgic 50% of the time, and amazed the other 50%. Truly a work of art. Now, if he wore to update it with recent techniques...

Well, if you really want to follow the definition of TAS, you have: "Tool-Assisted" and "Speedrun". The tool-assisted part means that this movie is full of win (if done correctly), yet the speedrun part (in conjunction with TA) means that this movie is done so fast, that it can only be faster if new strategies are found (again, if done correctly). So, you decide. You either want to give a good use to the tools to entertain the audience, or try to complete as fast as possible. In my Bubba 'n' Stix TAS, I'm only gonna do something neat when there's nothing else to do. Other than that, I'm going to try to complete it fast, no matter what.

I've had a couple of game related dreams. Except that right now, I can't remember any of them... I do remember dreaming I was playing on 2 random custom levels on Sonic Robo Blast 2, of which, I really tried to recreate, failing miserably. :P

Phantasy Star II was one of the best games for the Genesis, and as far as I know, the best PS on it. All I know is that I loved playing, although I never finished it (it started to get TO repetitive). Yet, I am NOT going to give you support/help on your WIP's for the mere reason that I want to watch the full run, when it's made; I don't want to spoil the whole movie with WIP's. I just know it's gonna be awesome! ;) Although... I CAN give you SOME seemingly pointless info (not really). When you defeat Neifirst, when the cutscene with the random explosions occurs, you can press the D-Pad to scroll the camera and screw the graphics momentarily. This can be used to entertainment effects. When I figure out some more stuff, I'll be sure to post it. PS: I'm remembering the time I saw Nei die, and... I just couldn't look at PS2 the same way. I felt so sad...

Nicely made. I like how you made the death shortcuts, although when I read that the run had those, I was expecting doing something on a right part of the level, dying and returning to the left part to continue (or something), like on Majora's Mask TAS by SwordlessLink, he does a dungeon until he gets something and dies to go back to the entrance. (or something like that :P) Other than that, the fact that you got 199 silver stars at the end was sweet.

Wow. That's a neat trick. Though, I don't think another Sonic 3 and Knuckles TAS would be made just for that... Unless... Someone wants to create a "Tails only" TAS. Think about it: it wouldn't be that bad. Sonic runs at the speed of sound and rapes the levels' a**, but sometimes, he encounters a wall or alternate path which require p-a-t-i-e-n-c-e... Whereas Tails could just fly atop of that and complete the level. (Although where Tails can fly, so can Sonic, seeing that Tails can pick him up).

I saw this movie once. In school! The last days before the end of the year, my Philosophy teacher said that we could watch whichever movie we'd like. It's actually quite good, and yes, those guys are the definition of badass.

Good ol' Ecco the Dolphin. I voted yes because the speedrun was well made, with good entertainment value, despite some parts in which I was forced myself to press and hold Tab. Like Ecco 1, it is very simple to pass trough walls on the auto-scrollers. That saved my life a couple of times. It's really awful when one is about to reach the end of the level, and wam! wrong direction. Thank God for the stupid glitch.

Yes, it's true. *Walking speed: 2 ppf (pixels per frame) *Running speed: 4 ppf *Jumping speed: 3 ppf. And this really sucks too, because off the "Jumping off ledges" trick. I don't know if it will be better to do the trick, or forget it due to the 3 ppf speed.

Yes, I actually found that out (and sort of already knew) that when I checked the speed variables. Looks like the first level will really have to be redone, specially with better damage taking points, and to see if there is any faster way to stick Stix in the holes (it looked like it could be faster, and it also looked like it couldn't). After a few more people see it and check out some improvements that could be made, I'll redo it.

I decided to leave my Pocahontas TAS in the background, on I'm now focusing on a new one (I swear, I'll only do another once I finish/cancel this one ;) Bubba 'N' Stix is a game where you control a red-neck slack-jawed yokel who needs to use an alien piece of wood by the name Stix to help him overcome many obstacles, including monsters, puzzles and such. IMO, this is the game that did the best platform-puzzle correlation. The current WIP is about the first level: The forest. I start off by running, and running, and jumping and such. Almost all damage is taken, seeing that taking damage does not slow you down in any way. And according to the plans I have for the next level, a low amount of HP is necessary for some death shortcuts. Nothing extraordinary, expect maybe that, while waiting for the rock near the end to fall, I do a stupid, random, uncoordinated dance. In the end, I head back to make sure the laser catches me as fast as possible. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1841507162/Bubba%20N%20Stix%20%28U%29%20%5B%21%5D%20TAS.gmv

No, it's not that. The only thing that you guys on the forum did was open my eyes. Ok, waking me up. I was probably sleeping when I made that.

Dear God. I can never say to many times that I'm sorry (wait... I never said it, I think :S) for making this awful excuse for a TAS. I won't ever do something like that again. Several times, I'm haunted with the memories of the wasting time (and space) by submitting it...

Well, if you guys say so... I'll just do it for my own entertainemnt and maybe post a video on YouTube. I might actually post it on TASvideos, even if possibly rejected, seeing that Tool Assisted Speedrun videos aren't limited to just the good games; that would be stupid! Even though it may not be as entertaining, other games deserve speedruns too, either there are many or little people to see it.

Normally, WXP shuts down the tasks by itself, without my intervention. I just don't know why it refuses to do that sometimes. I'll try installing ccleaner; I was planning to install it, several times, but never actually did it. About the defragment, I do it sometimes, and it doesn't seem to help. If everything else fails, I really need to re-install the OS. Thanks guys! @Sir VG: Thanks, I'll try that for the account issue.

Sometimes, my Windows XP refuses to terminate processes (tasks). When I think that the fan noise is way to loud, I Ctrl+Alt+Delete, and check that some tasks, such as "gens_9.5b.exe", "firefox.exe", "paint.exe", for instance are still there, even though I already quited those programs hours ago. The worst thing is that when it's time to shut down, WXP shows several error messages about terminating processes. "This could take a while..." *a few, plenty, tons of hours later...* "The process failed to shutdown" *Clicks Shut Down manually.* For each and every freaking task! As anyone else had this problem? Either way, can someone help me? Another question: I only have one user account with no password. Yet, the welcome screen gives me the option to choose which user account I want to login (even tough I only have one) instead of the "Welcome" screen.

Thanks, paul_t. I'll use Microstorage next time. About the bad game choice, I think I have to disagree. People who have played this game before are wondering what would it be like to pass it with TAS. The only things that actually support this being a bad choice for a game, is actually some of the worst events, such as Feeding Time and Kipper Watching.

EDIT: Read this post for the new, entertainment oriented run. I don't know why, but I just can't help it to make one TAS at a time. My Pocahontas TAS isn't complete yet, but that didn't stop me from making this one. For all those who have played the game, understand a little better how it is, and how this TAS can be rated. The Aquatic Games Featuring James Pond and The Aquabats is an "Olympic events" style game. In each event, you need to show your skills as a gamer and do your best. In this TAS, I show how hard the game can be pulled in some events, but in others, you just have to hold on for a certain time limit. Here is a description of them all, as well as my comments on each:
  • 100 Meter Splash: Press A and B alternately as fast as you can to build up speed and win the Frog in a race. This one was easy. There was nothing I could have done to improve the entertainment.
  • Kipper Watching: Some beach balls randomly appear on-screen. Your job is to stop them from hitting your seal friends, by knocking the balls off. The longer you survive, the better. 2 minutes minimum. This one had no entertainment whatsoever. Just bump, bump, bump. The ones who watch this are recommended to fast-forward.
  • Hop, Skip and Jump: A, B alternately to build speed, press C at the mark to Hop and Skip, and press C again when the angle shows as closest to 45º as possible. I just had to figure out what was the lowest angle possible to qualify. The minimum distance is 800.
  • The Bouncy Castle: Jump on the mattress, press A to twist, C+Left to do a back somersault and C+Right for a forward somersault. Do 6 stunts as fast as possible. I could swear that I made it 2 seconds earlier on the real console. Which means: NEEDS IMPROVEMENT, badly.
  • Feeding Time: Fill up your basket with goods, and than give them to the fish below you to keep them from showing up, and being fished to death. This event is so boring! Even though I fed almost all of them before they even show up.
  • Shell Shooting: When a shell pops-up, jump on it to make it fly, and then collect it in your basket. Launch the shell you have and pop all the balloons. I got really impressed by this one. Maybe could have been faster: 2 shells went towards me at the same time, and I had to jump. Also, I should apply the "jump after collecting" technique from the beginning.
  • Tour de Grass: Up, Right, Down, Left to speed up, and then jump when you reach a crab to avoid losing speed. It was suppose to be simpler, but it ended out a bit complicated. And it turns out that you don't loose speed when going upwards, if you are at max speed.
  • Leap Frog: A, B alternately to build up speed, C to jump over (electric) fences and water. Ok, people. This is where the run gets "o.O". The second fence is IMPOSSIBLE to jump according to what I've tried/could have done. It IS possible to jump over it, but somehow that got corrupted in this run. Maybe, MAYBE, this won't happen in the next version, probably the final.
Get it here. (I don't know why I didn't do this with my first TAS...)

When you start playing, if you have the "Show frame counter" option on, you will see that once in a while, the numbers will change from white to red. What does it mean when they are red? I believe that the frames that have the red numbers don't have an input programed (Intros, SEGA screens, etc), but then again, I see it go red in other situations were there is normal input...

This game is really epic. It deserves a TAS, and according to what I've seen, it's going super. Unfortunately, the emulator kills the sound tracks! My ears are almost bleeding!

I'm making several (OK, 3) TAS at a time, on of them being about Pocahontas. Now, you'd probably think: "LOL, Pocahontas! What a girlie!" But it's not. Pocahontas for the Sega Genesis actually features some cool things.
*Very nice graphics *Music from the movie (although I never saw the movie, but my sister did) *OK gameplay *and others
Those of you who have played it may know that this game is actually a bit slow, until you get the deer spirit, which allows you to run. A beta: http://www.sendspace.com/file/9bae7z Now, a question for those that have played: Do you think that it's worth spending time getting the fish spirit or not?

People: This is just my very first submission, I'm just warming up. So this isn't suppose to be epic. But nonetheless, I can't say that this video is bad. @emu: I absolutely forgot to do the hardest difficulty. @alden: Nice run. It's almost all a question of luck. According to what I've seen, Luck Manipulation is near impossible in Columns.
