I assume the pause screen glitch doesn't affect hyperbeam damage?

The general lack of pre-Kraid speed booster, high jump boots, and plasma in the Ridley and MB battles actually makes this run look significantly slower than Cpadolf's in "real time". Of course, I always fast-forward away elevators and door transitions when watching SM tases, and that makes a difference. But it's also a shame that the early Zebes parts here aren't as polished. Nevertheless, the quality of this run is obviously exceptional and I noticed lots of new small tricks; enough to make the run very interesting to watch throughout. In the end, I like Cpadolf's run slightly more, and would prefer to see it published if I have to choose one, but this run is heroic as well and a much-needed improvement in its category; well done hero :) It's a shame that there currently isn't a better site than TASvideos for publicizing SM speedruns. I would sure like to see a page that lists of all the 20-something categories that exist for this game, with the history of records in each category. If someone has a lot of free time...

Oh yeah, and it looks cool when you kill yourself to end the run, lol.
Right. It isn't really a death race unless *all* drivers die :)

Besides, I'm not sure what are you trying to illustrate with King's Bounty example, as a lot of people appreciated the run as it was.
I appreciated it too; a lot, in fact. It is extremely dumb, extremely fun, and well worth publishing. Also, I don't think this case can be compared directly to single-track concept demos. In this case there is just one track in the game -- no more could be done.

And yes, moozooh is absolutely correct. The death race is only one mode, king bounty is technically beating the whole game.
I'm more interested in entertainment value than technicalities.

The "dumb" King's Bounty run, in fact, completes the whole game.
Yes, and this one completes the whole death race. "One game" is not a good unit of measurement, as King's Bounty shows.

This should be published on tasvideos.

My only issue with all this is that new cool runs are not being worked on because all the tasers are spending their time on this stupid Ceres frame. Saturn, since these people don't know when to quit, you should either reveal the secret or finish your own damn run, just to let everybody move on.

I like the way the camera utterly fails to keep up with Link.

Wonderful trick. Thanks for the recording, Saturn. I don't think it looks so bad, since there's still action during the fadeout/fadein. I wouldn't mind a run that uses it extensively, if the goal it achieves is crazy enough.

I don't see the point of "speedrunning" a game by chopping it into 20 tiny pieces. If you ask me, that's no different from making a TAS, except that an actual TAS is much more entertaining to watch.

I'd rather have seen it published to Concept demos/Other.

Could the SDA videos be used as a reference?

I was wondering whether JXQ, after reading and rereading his scathing yet pretty much true anti-Metroid Prime article (there Raiscan, now my opinion is known), would appreciate the changes that Retro has made to the Prime formula for this game.
Somehow I'd missed this. JXQ, I agree with every word of that article.

Probably because hero's run was faster than the previous run on both counts.

Voting yes, of course. I'd like to see it published alongside the hero's any% run. If there are too many SM tases, remove the outdated "minimalist" run instead. Practically speaking, the most recent any% routes (especially hero's) are very nearly minimalist in terms of item collection and have nearly the same spectacular tricks as a true minimalist route (not counting the Kejardon rape), without the slowness. I'm eagerly awaiting the 23-minute version.

What about BLJing through the key door that leads upstairs? (Apologies if I'm missing something obvious.)

If your total energy (counting reserves too) dips below 30, enemies will only drop energy until your energy rises back up to at least 50. I'd have to check the code again to see if it was inclusive/exclusive, but I know those are the borderlines.
At least one enemy doesn't follow this constraint, though, as I got a Super Missile after Crocomire's area with 29 energy on the v2 100% run.
You did have some reserve tank energy though.

Great game, nice improvement, easy "yes" vote.
