There are definitely exploitable collision-detection glitches in this game. For example, in Cloud Cuckooland, it is possible to get into the jello castle without turning into solo Banjo, by doing a flying attack through a polygon seam (I don't think you can get out, however).

In either case, 20-30 seconds is a huge difference for a game like this

F-Zero X is now officially a flight simulator and not a racing game.

Quick; record it with the shortcut, jumping back up to collect the missed coins!

0:39 is an incredible time. Wow. Me, I did a crappy 0:52 (single segment) in 2003 and an even crappier 0:44 (multi-segment) in 2005. (Files.) Assuming linear progress, that means I should be able to do 0:36 this year :P

Alright, after a lot of testing and failed attempts, I did it: Torizo can now be skipped on NTSC.

It's okay as long as the pattern doesn't become obvious. The way you're doing it now, on the third track from the present, the viewers will think "bleh, he'll just do that trick again" and then be surprised when you don't.

I'm not saying the 10% route should compete in the same category as classical any% runs. But if the game can be completed quicker with Kejardon's method than the traditional way, I do think it should have a category of its own, just to find out the absolute limit of the game. But the classical route is indeed more fun to watch and feels more like being the "real thing". In other words, I think we agree Saturn :) I'm waiting for the RBO as well, by the way.

How does the 10% route compare for any%?

I can't play back this .m64 properly, yet all settings in the "play movie" dialog seem to agree. A video conversion would be appreciated.

I just remembered, do you have Interpolated sound on because that causes desyncs regularly and if that doesn't help than maybe it is hopeless.

Indeed I have.
So you say you do have Interpolated sound on, which is known to cause desyncs. Have you actually tried disabling it? (Did I miss something here?)

how do you solve for x? :/
In general, this has no elementary solution. Using the Lambert W function, the solution can be expressed as W((1/50)*y*log(1.1))/log(1.1). But the best idea is to solve it numerically.

Sweet! By the way, I hope you keep your stuff backed up. Hard drives have a tendency to die when they're loaded with multi-month projects...

It's been over a month since the last teaser now. Are you making any progress, Saturn?

About the Energy Tanks I doubt it's worth to skip one since the longest delay to get any of the 4 is 1-2 seconds but therefore you can use knockbacks much more often and you can shinespark in many more places without energy problems.
Don't forget that the item jingle takes several seconds (this is not a concern if you only care about in-game time). The energy tank I'm thinking of is the one by the high-jump boots; TS's energy barely drops below 100 after he picks it up; it's possible that slowing down on the way for a fraction of a second to collect health would be faster. But you're right that more shinesparking and knockbacks would probably require this energy tank. As for the Phantoon quick-kill, JXQ uses 21 missiles while TS only has 20 at that point. Can it be done with 20? Otherwise you'd have to pick up one extra missile pack.

I hope another any% run will be done. I just watched TS's run again; it's amazing how much more optimization seems to be possible now. Every movement seems to take 10% more time in that run than in the most recent TASes. I also noticed that TS picks up one missile pack and one energy tank more than he needs; would they be required for some new tricks? Otherwise, perhaps 15 seconds could be saved on those alone.

I was surprised to see that you didn't need another Crystal Flash on the way out. Very nice! With the most difficult segment done, I take it you'll be finished soon?

Strange wording. Are you saying that backwalking is 1.5X faster than normal walking? I don't know how to be 1.5X slower than something.
1.5X slower: slow speed = fast speed / 1.5 1.5X faster: fast speed = slow speed x 1.5

The dance takes about 6 seconds. 6 seconds x 100 Jiggies = 600 seconds = 10 minutes.
