Whoa, guys! I picked up on something while I was TASing Snake Man's stage! If you are on your Rush Jet and you go to the bottom of the screen, you die AND the Jet appears at the top of the screen! I guess there is more to that bottom-to-top of screen glitch afterall! Also, even though this is old news, if you are at the top of the screen and there is an enemy at the bottom of the screen and you are on the same x-axis as the enemy, you take damage from that enemy if you jump over top of the screen (I discovered this in Mega Man 4 in Cossack Stage 1).

That's a good idea! I'll have to try that when I get to Wily Stage 4! It's a long way off but I'm looking forward to trying it!

Well, this is certainly not my latest WIP. The WIP you got there, I continued, and completed Gyroman also, and the start of the Chargeman stage (I do think that when redoing, I would pick Crystalman after Gyroman). Here is that wip: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/141086897/Mega%20Man%205%202.fm2 I however improved the Starman battle (I redid this because of the one-frame gate 'zip' you mentioned some time ago, and then when redoing the Starman fight, I was able to avoid more lag frames at the end of the battle), and redid from there, completing most of the Gravityman stage (the Gravityman fight of that old version could be improved greatly after all also). Here is that new WIP: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/94147041/Mega%20Man%205%20U.fm2 However, at this point in the run, it was discovered at there was a one-frame zip also possible at the ladders, so a frame or two could also be saved at the Starman stage at this new version... and I wasn't really motivated to redo all of that AGAIN...
I'm motivated to do it! I think I can save more time on Star Man's stage! :) And about the WIP for this game, I didn't know that you had one that was finished through Gyro Man. I never did find that one (until you brought it up just now). Anyway those were some awesome WIPs, especially Gyro Man's stage at the end with the Super Arrow screen wrapping thing. That was tight! :D

That makes sense, as SnakeMan also takes 2 dmg from Shadow Blade, and then you'll also get to use Magnet Missile in SnakeMan's and NeedleMan's stages if it helps. But now you're still saying it's better to have Shadow Blade for MagnetMan's stage than to put MagnetMan first and have Magnet Missile and Hard Knuckle for TopMan's and ShadowMan's stages? Remember you won't have Rush Jet for MagnetMan's stage on your proposed new route either...
Oh, yes I will! Don't you know about the glitch where you highlight Shadow Blade on the weapon switch screen then you press right and if you already have a weapon refill nearby (I might have to collect three or four small ones) I will instantly have Rush Jet. Plus, it automatically refills it for the next stage since the game thinks you have it by default.

And I chuckle at how SparkMan is always going to be last in these speedruns, because his weapon is pointless on stage enemies, and MagnetMan has two primary weaknesses for some reason. Anyway, I like how your run looks so far, so keep it up!
That is so true what you said about Spark Man's weapon (especially with the fact that you can't pause while your weapon is still on screen in this game which can be frustrating)! Also, Magnet Missile in Top Man and Shadow Man's stages isn't exactly faster because you have to switch to that weapon which costs 30 frames each (an additional 10 frames for the faint warp animation unless you can find a way to bypass it like at the start of a boss). Anyway, thanks! I will definitely keep this speedrun up (and hopefully get it under 30 minutes)! :) Sorry if I'm sounding a little repetitive about this "under 30 minutes" thing but the published run is just so close and I feel like I can get it! :D

Now that you're done with that level, I have a strategy to skip the last enemy in room 4 of Gravity Man's stage so that you won't have to take damage from it. Keep sliding until you get to the ledge then jump on the ledge and slide backwards and so as far to the left as you can so that you avoid the enemy.
If you had watched either the movie I uploaded in this topic, or that I sent you through PM, you would have noticed that I already skipped this enemy in those wips.
Baxter, I can't find it. Your post message is there but all it has is a link to your website on it. I even checked that link and I didn't find a single WIP on it. I can't find it on this topic either.

Here's what I have for my speedrun so far. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1249904220/mega_man_3-Rockman%203%20-%20Dr.%20Wily%20no%20Saigo%21%20%28J%29-1st%205%20stages.fm2 You know, I'm almost thinking of going to Magnet Man after Shadow Man instead because doing Needle Man requires Shadow Blade which is on the second menu screen which takes 30 frames to switch to whereas Gemini Laser is already on the first menu screen. I was thinking of going with this route. Top-Shadow-Magnet-Snake-Gemini-Needle-Hard-Spark

Hmm, so only the X-coordinate of the explosion matters for how soon you collect the power in this game, but in Mega Man 4 and Mega Man 3 GB you want it centered between all four sides as much as possible, huh. Were there any other Mega Man games where the victory timing works like this? I imagine it's even trickier in this game because you lose your momentum immediately when the boss explodes, so both MegaMan and his opponent would have to be in the middle for the fastest finish. Is that why you're getting Shadow Blade so early? So you can throw it straight up at somebody while you're both in the middle?
No. I was doing for the Rush Jet. : )

I have an improved WIP of Top Man and Shadow Man's stages: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1779632381/mega_man_3-Rockman%203%20-%20Dr.%20Wily%20no%20Saigo%21%20%28J%29%20improved%20WIP1.fm2 I saved 30 frames! I did the best I could to luck manipulate Shadow Man and it was not easy.
Looks great! Nice going abusing the fact that the left and right sides of the screen overlaps. The outcome with the manipulation of Shadow Man is still far from perfect, but I take it that you've spent a lot of time making sure that it it can't be better at the given moment, so I won't nag about that anymore. Btw, what is the exact route you're using? I quickly came up with this one, which might contain errors but looks quite good at the first glance: Top - Shadow - Snake (use Shadow Blade on the boss) - Gemini - Needle - Magnet - Hard, Spark Man to be done any time after Shadow Man. This way you only need to collect ammo for Rush Jet in Snake- and Gemini levels and you don't need to collect that much ammo either. Or do you have a better route coming up?
Thanks! Actually, I did the calculations for how many frames I lost on Shadow Man's boss and it was 14 frames. I think I might start over again from Top Man and see if I can get a better outcome because to me 14 frames is way too much as I'm going for ≤ 30:00 minutes. And about my boss route, I wasn't really sure about what to do after Shadow Man (the order in which Spark Man's stage is done doesn't really matter since I can use Shadow Blade on Magnet Man) but I was thinking about doing either Gemini Man, Magnet Man, Snake Man, or even Needle Man (only because of the position on the screen when he gets killed). The time it takes to switch from one weapon to another will also have an impact on my boss route too. Also, vertical height for killing a boss has no impact whatsoever as the energy balls disappear off the top and bottom of the screen and Mega Man still has to wait for the ending theme to play! So now I know when killing a boss, it's all about x-displacement.

Here is my first TAS. It's the bosses in Wily Stage 3, made for entertainment and showing off glitches. The video quality is bad, but I hope you folks can enjoy it. =)
Oh ****!!! That is pretty tight! I didn't know that you could shoot Dust Crusher so many times in a row even with the particles still on screen! I learned a lot of stuff in this movie that I never knew before!

Mega_Man_3 breaks a lot of hearts by making faster runs and not publishing them. I'd really like to see some of your work.
You do get to see my work! :) I posted demonstration runs and WIPs in this forum and you get to download them! Some of my WIPs even made it on to youtube.com. See? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tca5YMdLr70 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMD_sHNUwK4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3JDpBlWBj0 Edit: Just found out today (8/23/2010) that these links don't work anymore, as in, the videos have been removed. Sorry. :(

If you're going to wait over 6 months before doing another revision, you're welcome to submit your good runs in the meantime. Even listing that there are better tricks available is fine as long as you did your best with the knowledge you had at the time. We're always looking for the best runs that have been played as long as they are played with the best knowledge at the time. (Many people find possible improvements during a run, but don't redo it at the time because the time saved is small for the work required.) If you're redoing soon, you may as well wait until you finish at this point, but I would've liked to have seen your run published back in November. I do respect your dedication though. =D
Thanks Kirkq! That's exactly the kind of message I'm getting out! I don't go for just 30 second improvements! I go for 45 or more seconds! :D In the case of MM3 and MM6, under 30:00 minutes. I know it's gonna be really hard but I'm definitely up for the challenge!

Out of curiosity, this run is 30 seconds faster than the currently published run. Why didn't you submit it when you finished it? Also similar, didn't you fully complete MM6 as well and then not submit?
I was about finish Mega Man 6 too (I was just starting Wily Stage 3) but then I discovered the "slide while on top of a ladder" trick not done in any of the previous runs (the one where you press up and down and A at the same time). So I decided to start over. Same with the MM4 run.

That is so cool! It's got my name on it and everything! THANK YOU!!! :D Now I can look it over and check for areas of improvement! P.S. What mistake were you talking about?

Once something is uploaded to microstorage, it is always there. If you remember exactly the name of the .fcm, perhaps you may be able to find the exact link to it, and DeHackEd can browse through the database and find it.
I do remember the exact name of the .fcm file! It's either "mega_man_3-MEGAMAN4-WIP1" or "mega_man_3-MEGAMAN4 (WIP1)". It's one of the two.

Just watched it! That was a cool trick! I didn't know that the Rush Jet could be abused like that. You know what I should've done in my demonstration run? Take damage while the Rush Jet was being uploaded since the x-coordinate will be the same while being in the "take damage" animation and it takes a long time for the Rush Jet to land (unless you're near the top of the screen).

I'm talking about the www.dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php site where playthrough runs of games are uploaded. I thought I would be able to just close out of it and come back to it later even if I didn't save the URL to it.

Also, is there a way to get a lost link back after posting a WIP? I posted a Mega Man 4 speedrun back in November of last year and I need to get that link back. I hope it's not gone forever... :(
