This time I decided to press the A button to pass those other two dialogue sequences to get to the final screen.

I wasn't sure whether or not to keep pressing A through those dialogue sequences. After that it just goes back to the title screen. I thought I had finished the game after I had beaten Captain Hook.

Oh, something just occurred to me! In world 4-4 you forgot to make Mario duck into the water to preserve the running speed instead of jumping off the block and landing in the water.

Oh, guys! I just wanted to let y'all know that I will be editing the submission text for the next week (I've been doing so since the movie got submitted). I will be adding more information about my TAS of this game in the submission text so that it has more detail. Edit: 7/24/2010 @ 5:00 PM I finished my movie summary!! Enjoy! :D

isn't there already a run for this game for the SNES? are these different games?
Yes, there is a run of this for the SNES but the SNES version is an entirely different game because that version was developed by Ukiyotei (you don't have to collect a certain number of items to complete all the levels in that one). The NES version (the one I'm doing now) was developed by Ocean. So in that case it's okay to TAS this game even though the SNES version already has a run of it.

I have 12 stages finished! I am halfway done with this game! Check it out! :) http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1705387628/GlitchMan-Hook-12stagesWIP%20%28U%29.fm2

Thanks for the explanation finalfighter! :D Yeah, that's the bad thing about having to use Balloons instead of Super Arrow. -You can't kill enemies with it (there's no way to get refills because of this unless there's one conveniently placed) -You may need more than one Balloon for slide zipping to work since they can only move up and down The plan is to save 7 seconds a stage and I can do this by pulling off a sliding zipping glitch.

It seemed like finalfighter used the (E) version. You should however stick with the (U) version when making your TAS.
I actually did go and download the (E) version just to see finalfighter's demonstration run. That was another reason that I brought the question up. Thanks for answering it, Baxter. :D

Awesome!! Thanks finalfighter! :D I have a question though. What version of the rom do I have to use for this game or can I stick with the same one (Mega Man 4 (U))? I am asking this because of the discussion of the different rom versions of this game. Also, I did discover a glitch in Mega Man 5 that should work in Mega Man 4 since they are both very similar to each other. If you are wall zipping by sliding and you are at the far right edge of the screen, by the time you reach the end of the wall you can make Mega Man disappear but you can still have control of him by moving left for a couple of frames (be careful not to make him zip too far to the right or else this won't work). While he his in this state he is completely intangible until a screen transition occurs. He can't take damage from any enemies but unfortunately he can't collect any powerups or use his Balloon or Rush Jet. He is not even allowed to climb ladders (which renders this glitch useless if you're trying to climb ladders in that room)! :( But I think this trick will be useful in reducing lag for rooms without ladders (I think you can even slide on the spikes too).

Looks optimized, nice glitch abuse. Pretty funny how badly the bosses got owned. Avoiding the lag in this game must've been a bitch. This is definitely a game where you wish you could "overclock" the emulator to completely eliminate it.
Oh, yeah (about the lag)! XP

Good NEWS!!! I am going to work on Mega Man 4!! I will start by finding zipping glitches with the balloon so that I won't have to switch to Rush Jet and waste 36 frames for the little Rush animation. I will try to find floor and ceiling zipping glitches!!!

I made another WIP of the first level that I'm playing!! This time I used the falling-through-floor glitch that I told you all about!! http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1025157514/GlitchMan-Hook%20%28U%29-WIPwithwallzipping.fm2 That saved over 20 seconds alone! Awesome!! :D Update (7/4/2010): There are in fact 25 stages in the game but I can skip a flying level so that makes it 24 stages. Here is the stage # breakdown: 3 cave stages 3 swimming stages 1 tree stage 7 flying stages (I'm only able to skip one of these) 2 fighting stages 2 winter stages 5 forest stages 2 pirate ship stages

PikachuMan: IT'S OVER 9000!! (That's what you were expecting, right? ;-) ) I remember seeing this game back when I still had Nintendo Power. You made it look really entertaining despite all the lag, and that's saying something. Nice going! You've run some pretty awesome games lately.
Thanks! :D

I have a WIP of the first stage! http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/217523194/GlitchMan-Hook%20%28U%29-WIP.fm2 These items are required: Alarm Clock Magic Sword Horn Tooth It takes 60 frames for a "Peter has collected this item" screen. I also measured the time it takes for Peter to go eastward from the Pirate Forest to another level. That takes about 100 frames. I think it makes the most sense to start at the ghost mine. It turns out that you do need to collect all the four items in order to complete the game. There is no any% run of this game.

9192 frames of lag have occurred throughout the whole movie (from the start of the game all the way to the epilogue). Would you believe that less than 1/3 of those lag frames were the first 3 stages while more than another 1/3 were stage 4 and the last 1/3 came from stage 5? Talk about lag getting harder to manage as it progresses! Apparently the developers not only made the stages progressively harder, they also made the lag!

No Mega Man 6? :(
Sorry, Mothrayas. That's not going to be until I get all these other games out of the way! I will work on MM6, along with RM3 (MM3), starting January 2011 (or whenever I get all my other TASing projects done). :D I think I might tackle Mega Man 4 next. :D

Really cool TAS. Your lag reduction was so competent the slowdown didn't bother me at all! Also, I already forgot how cool the music was in this game. While a well-deserved yes vote is heading your way, what will be your next project?
Thank you moozooh! :D I am glad you really liked it!! :) My next project will be Hook on the NES!

I need to keep the arrow energy above zero so that I can kill the third to last floating enemy that was in the way.

Nice zip in Wily 2. Obvious yes vote. A have a few concerns but I was wondering why did you grab the big weapon refill in Protoman 2 (I think it was in that stage)? Because if I recall correctly, you had no reason to. You were moving forward on a Super Arrow, got one big refill on your way but it depleted and you got another one in the end of the room. I don't understand this. Edit: It was infact Protoman 2 stage. Go to 18:36ish and you will understand what I meant.
I tried everything I could to get the arrow across the room without having to get the big weapon upgrade (the distance is too long for a small one). I couldn't jump over the enemy that I get the big weapon upgrade from either because a piece of the ceiling was in the way.
