Nice! It looks like its shaping up to be real good. Its a shame though that the zipping didnt save a lot of time though. It would be really cool if there were some other shortcuts with it. I liked that you used the Super Arrow screen scroll more. I look foward to seeing this in under 33:00 minutes. ;)
I probably Estimated TAS Time is 31:3x minutes Is simple Concept Not a precise calculation.
That's exactly what I'm going for! If I keep saving time at the rate of 5 or more seconds per stage this run will be as fast as your time estimate. Also, the arrow-through-wall glitch did save time (60 frames on Crystal Man's stage off my other WIP).

I have finished redoing Crystal Man's stage (and Napalm Man's stage) and I saved 143 frames! Climbing up the ladder from the 6th room in Crystal Man's stage was where the re-recording started from my last WIP. I saved time in both those levels by using the Super Arrow zipping through the wall glitch that I discovered in my last WIP then I used the Super Arrow screen scroll in both stages and thus resulted in the 143 frames being saved! It took me a while to not lose frames in Napalm Man's stage from my last WIP. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/813298977/GlitchMan-Mega%20Man%205-WIP5improved.fm2 This means in total I saved 1540 frames (25 seconds + 40 frames) off of Baxter's TAS of this game!

I just tried this trick with the Rush Jet and it doesn't work (which isn't good because that would have been a good substitute if you weren't able to use Super Arrow).

GUYS!!! I DID IT!!! I FINALLY DID IT!!! I found a way to get Mega Man to zip through a wall using Super Arrow!! http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1992479124/GlitchMan-Mega%20Man%205-zipping%20glitch%20discovery.fm2 This all happened in Stone Man's stage (5th room)!!! The first zipping glitch sliding through a wall in Mega Man 5 ever in a TAS!! I was really shocked!! I didn't think it would work but it actually did! This is probably the greatest discovery in Mega Man 5 TASing history!!! :D :D :D

I am able to play Baxter's movie with FCE Ultra (and yes I actually downloaded the 0.98.15 version like it said to do). Here is the movie diagnosis (I did the stages from when Mega Man gains control at the beginning to when the screen fades out at the end of a stage). Also the reason I'm doing individual stages is because I'm doing a different boss route: Baxter's TAS: Star Man: 1147-6704 (5557 frames) Gravity Man: 8232-13359 (5127 frames) Gyro Man: 14802-21229 (6427 frames) Crystal Man: 40379-46260 (5881 frames) Napalm Man: 47705-53644 (5939 frames) My TAS: Star Man: 1147-6584 (5437 frames) Gravity Man: 8112-12885 (4773 frames) Gyro Man: 14328-20429 (6101 frames) Crystal Man: 21986-27622 (5636 frames) Napalm Man: 29067-34654 (5587 frames) Time I saved: Star Man: 120 frames Gravity Man: 354 frames Gyro Man: 326 frames Crystal Man: 245 frames Napalm Man: 352 frames That amounts to 1397 frames (23.28 seconds) saved so far! Already almost half a minute saved and I only completed five stages! Now that is an improvement! I will definitely get under 32:00 with these new techniques! I definitely have high hopes for this TAS! :D

I'm not sure if all the stages require this trick (I know the first two stages did). Maybe when I do my jump glitch in stage 3 I will switch to the 2 player mode and have the second player position itself so that the screen doesn't scroll where a lot of enemies show up (same as the death glitch).

Nope. Still not working (it shows up as a blank page). It's fine. Thanks though. Baxter told me what the video was referring to. Anyway, here is my WIP for Napalm Man's stage: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1699593193/GlitchMan-Mega%20Man%205-WIP5.fm2

Did you press the big green button "Download This File"
Yes I did. It just said "the video is downloading" (something like that) and nothing was happening. I don't think that the arrow scroll strategy would save time because that would require two big weapon energy capsules which means sacrificing 80 frames (one for the room with the detonator enemies (I forgot their name) and the other for the actual arrow scroll).

Here is the death glitch improvement in stage 1: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/972948414/Contra%20Force%20%28U%29%20with%20death%20glitches-stage%201.fm2 That saves 732 frames (12.2 seconds) off my WIP and a total of 966 frames (16.1 seconds) off Xipo's run and that was just stage 1! This run is definitely going to be under 13 minutes!

Here is my WIP for Crystal Man's stage: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1896290852/GlitchMan-Mega%20Man%205-WIP4.fm2 Here I used a new strategy that saved a lot of time: I took into consideration not only the weapon switches wasting time but also the time it takes for the weapon energy capsules to refill the Super Arrow back to its full state and whether or not the time that the arrow saves makes up for it or not.

I have a idea.We can get level 5 power before BOSS1.Wht not use this power and chang man?I mean we can Pause the game and use 2P(two hero/one control two)to beat BOSS1.Because of two heros,wo can go ahead without adding scroll/screen.By the way,let 2P die spmeplace in stage2.
That is a great idea Xipo! :D This means I won't have to worry about using up all of my lives on some stages where I use the death trick and I might be able to eliminate enemies and obstacles more efficiently.

Thanks! I wonder if there is any other way to get extra lives. Probably not because you get infinite continues in this game. So far I saved 817 frames (~13.6 seconds) off your run of this game! That is a huge improvement! The death glitch I used in stage 2 helped out a lot! In fact, I was thinking about using this death glitch in stage 1 as well. I wonder if it can save time in that stage since while you have invincibility after dying the screen won't start scrolling and you can go to the right and eliminate enemies as soon as they show up on screen. I just looked at the jumping for the characters and Iron has the lowest jumping, not Beans. In fact, not only does Beans have the fastest running speed, he has the second highest jumping height! I also found the address for the average walking speed for each character (located at 7E6 and 7E8): Burns - 01.38 Smith - 01.30 Iron - 01.20 Beans - 01.3F

I found another stage 3 glitch. It is where you don't have to shoot the controls on the left side of the screen and the down-scrolling will start automatically: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/952180467/Contra%20Force%20%28U%29-stage3glitch.fm2 Also, here is my WIP for stage 2 (I abused deaths in stage 2 for less lag): http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1095110703/Contra%20Force%20%28U%29-WIP2.fm2 There was a code where you could get 8 extra lives by holding B and pressing start but I have never gotten it to work. Does anyone know how to make it work?

I found an improvement that could be made in stage 3: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/962295849/Contra%20Force%20%28U%29-stage3improvement.fm2 You can still use the character to scroll (which is faster because the screen auto-scrolling part is 0.75 pixels/frame) as long as you don't make the screen scroll to a certain height in which case it would start the auto-scroll. Also, here is my improved WIP for stage 1: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/220241814/Contra%20Force%20%28U%29-GlitchMan-WIP1.fm2 This time I have improved it by making sure to test which strategy saved the most time. I also kept up with the lag counter in Xipo's runthrough since most of the "saving time" part is based around reducing lag. So far I have saved 3.9 seconds (the duration of 234 frames)! I think I am making good progress so far! :D

Wow! That is better than my WIP! I was really shocked with how stage 3 went especially the part where you killed yourself in order to get past all those boxes! I was actually thinking of using that high jump glitch in stage 3 where the box launches you up high in the air and you can just skip a huge part of the level (I just discovered that trick the other night when I was playing it)! I did find an improvement in stage 1 that didn't require use of the jump glitch: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/448283841/Contra%20Force%20%28U%29-stage1jumpingimprovement.fm2 Thanks for uploading this! This will definitely help me with my run of this game!

Awesome! Thanks! :D Guess what! I'm working on stage 2 right now! I am so excited to see how this stage will turn out (it's an overhead view and that would probably make it easier)!

Hi! I decided to TAS this game now! I have made a WIP for it! http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/546737027/Contra%20Force%20%28U%29-GlitchMan-WIP.fm2 I picked Beans because he has the fastest running/walking speed but he also has the lowest jump but it wouldn't really matter since the majority of the stages revolve around walking. Now some key lag-reducing rules came into play: -jumping causes lag -killing all enemies on the screen is faster than just ignoring them and walking by -it is better to kill an enemy when there is a part with tons of lag during gameplay This is a game with lots of slowdown and it is not easy! I wasn't 100% sure what exactly was the best strategy to use for some parts of the level. I used a jump glitch in the middle of the level which I think is faster than just waiting for the platforms to come towards you since they move so slowly. Something else that could be a component of lag in the game is the parts of the stage that can be blown up (boxes, parts of a ceiling/wall, etc.). I noticed this during the truck part. There was nothing besides my character on the screen and there was parts of the floor that could be blown up and there were frames of lag there (normally there wouldn't be). And yes there were no other sprites on the screen. Anyway this WIP is what I came up with. Hope you all enjoy watching! :D

Whoa! That's really interesting! I just tested this out and I was really shocked that it actually works! That was a glitch I've been trying to figure out all this time! Thanks for explaining that to me finalfighter! :D I also looked in those addresses (0003f0-0003f3) and tested this with other weapons and which weapons affect the vertical velocity for the Super Arrow (0003f0 is Mega Man's vertical velocity and 0003f1-0003f3 is the weapon's). Any weapon that has 3 projectiles will affect all three weapon velocity addresses. Mega Buster: no Water Wave: yes Gyro Attack: yes (only the 1st address) Crystal Eye: yes (only the 1st one unless it splits into 3 by bouncing against a wall) Gravity Hold: no Napalm Bomb: yes Power Stone: yes Charge Kick: no Star Crash: no Beat: yes Only Napalm Bomb and Water Wave have negative vertical velocity and you need the negative velocity to get it to work. Thank goodness that the the first Super Arrow fired is in the 3rd weapon velocity address which means I can use this glitch to my advantage somewhere after Dark Man Fortress Stage 2. I can activate it by using Napalm Bomb during that boss fight. Here's an example of how it can help (this is in Dark Man Fortress 3): http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1817559840/Mega%20Man%205%20%28U%29-stage0Aarrowacrosstheroom.fm2

It is a good route. The way to take the recovery is wise. :) >There was a Super Arrow glitch where you could exit through the Super Arrow through the front What do you mean? Please teach details a little more.
It was in the Mega Man quadruple run where Mega Man was in Dark Man Fortress Stage 3 in Room 6. After riding it for a long distance he was nearing his way at the end of the arrow while it was at its maximum velocity (4 pixels per frame) then he falls off from the front. I was looking at the gravitational velocity on this too while he was on the arrow and it was at F8 (the most falling velocity he can have is F9). Apparently the falling velocity is preset if you just walk off the arrow and you don't slide off.

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1997142923/GlitchMan-Mega%20Man%205-improvedWIP3.fm2 I just saved half a second off of Gyro Man's stage by using new strategies for this stage! Check it out! :D I used the following new strategies: -lower the y-position of the 3rd Super Arrow in Room 5 -use some of the Arrow energy for Room 6 so that I can still end with the same amount that I can use three Arrows left for the next room -take damage in Room 7 when I get the big weapon upgrade because of the time it takes for the enemy explosion to go away since the item doesn't appear until afterwards and I can slide through the enemy instead of having to jump over BTW, I just thought about something: there was a Super Arrow glitch where you could exit through the Super Arrow through the front. Normally you wouldn't be able to but sometimes you can. I found this out when I was actually playing this game a couple of years ago when I came across this glitch. This was also shown in the Mega Man 3, 4, 5, 6 quadruple run. Any idea how I can get it to work?

Oh, I just thought of something! Since I'll be using Dust Crusher against Cossack I had originally planned to somehow pickup a big weapon refill somewhere in Wily Stage 1 to refill 10 bars of weapon energy for Dust Crusher to use against the Giant Met. I have a new strategy: use Ring Boomerang against the Giant Met since you can get more than one hit-in for any enemy/boss with just one Ring Boomerang. That way I won't have to worry about getting a weapon refill for Dust Crusher or Ring Boomerang.
