Rather, finding a new glitch in a game like Super Mario 64 can mean seconds shaved off a world record-setting speedrun. Given how hard this seems to be to reproduce, it will probably mostly benefit Tool-Assisted Speedrun (TAS) which use a computer to calculate every single movement of the character, in this case Mario, for absolute maximum efficiency.
I knew it! You guys are all robots in real life confirmed! Seriously what lol
I suppose to someone not 'in' on all this, it'd be pretty hard to grasp what's going on.

Yeah, pannenkoek mentioned this glitch to me a while ago. A brute force bot may be a good idea, it could be very specific. Is there any SM64 TASers with experience at that?

Did you even watch the bounty video?
Though there's a small upward warp at the bottom which is funny but small I think useless, and almost certainly doesn't count.

I think I have one, but not for the Japanese version (I don't know if they are transferable). Edit: Do you think a Mupen inaccuracy effecting the glitch?

Yeah, I don't think dive recover is nearly high enough.

Yep! Link to video
I'm not sure if that's really tool assisted, I think it just used save states. I made one but it's pretty terrible, so I'll redo it. I think I've got an ok route though based on that.
Ah my bad I didn't realize you were looking for something more optimized. I'm sure a lot of pannenkoek's ABC videos aren't perfectly optimal time-wise, though. I don't think speed is of particular concern =P
Yeah, I think a good bit of time could be saved with a different slide down. Plus genally more speed sliding.

Neat, it's a little plain, not many glitches, but still very entertaining.

That was pretty fast, and I liked your strategy. You could probably really help out the eventual full A-Button Challenge TAS by optimizing star times like this. Try out different bounces off the floating platform (you should be able to make it to the log a couple seconds earlier), and then try jumping toward the star from a different part of the log. You might find a better angle or slightly faster strategy this way.
Thanks, I think it may be worth trying to modify to avoid being burnt early as well, and not collect the coins. There's a good bit I want to try out.

What hypothesis is there to test? The moat skip was abut getting into position, which you needed the PU to use.
Test if 2nd floor paintings entrances exist in PU.
I think Tyler and Pannenkoek where working on a tool to see what is loaded. That may be a better way to look into it.

No Buttons Allowed except camera zoom, evidently. ;)
Some pretty clever tricks there. I don't think there was anything new there, but the it's a brilliant showcase of some cool stuff. Though I do wish just for the reaction he'd stick some Power Violence or something over the repetitive part. BTW, could you use the shell for PUs, how long would that take? I'm guessing it's not though since if nothing else I think it'd be impossible not to crash.

Finally, someone who knows the actual value. I couldn't find that information anywhere. For people complaining about the camera angles in Snark's TAS, with the BitFS PU strat (and most PU strats) it is required to turn on fixed cam in order to prevent the game from crashing. The crash is console only, so it's very important to console verify the .m64. I wish they had written a proper description because I think the information is important to know. Also, although that TAS was not console verified, Soulcal did just verify the 18'57 strat! So that bodes well for it as well as future improvements. Finally, no point in submitting that when we're gonna cut 30 seconds soon anyways ;)
I think some cooler stuff would be possible still. But at the same time I get how much effort has to go into getting camera angles good, just for a improvement to be found. Sounds like another PU strat.

Without a replay file, the video is only hearsay. I could make an encode that shaves time off of that with minimal effort and it would be equally unverifiable. As of this post, no record exists below 05:02.25.
True, without the reply file this is not verified. But hearsay is hardly accurate either. Firstly it was uploaded by Snark, a known TASer, and you can view the videos of the big BiTFS skip that presumably got this made. Thirdly you have footage you can look at for evidence of splicing, hacking, speeding up or however you think he could cheat. It's not verified, but there's a number of reasons to think it's probably true.[/i][/list]

What is with the Punis glitching up? Is that an emulator glitch? On a similar note, is it possible to win the fight against the jabbis with only 1 puni using RNG manipulation and Flurrie?

Is this a real post? What are you talking about? This video is just the normal RTA strat of using the box to get to the mushroom, but he fails it and dies lol
LOL. I wasn't sure wasn't the what the standard strat was. I don't watch that many speed runs, just odd bits such as 16 star runs. My bad. Still think it looks cool.

If you're going to switch the camera angle, it would surely be best to do it during a pause blj. Especially earlier on, given it would allow for a lot of stylistic choices throughout the run.
Or if they figure how to use the moat skip do it then. That'd be very cool for the 120 stars though. It could give you a nice view of some of the tricks.
