I have to vote meh for entertainment, but I also considered the "no" option :p It started ok and quite entertaining, but it became repetitive quite fast. It's mostly because of the game which is that way (to watch). I can't comment on the technical side of the run. I've never played the game, so I don't know if other strategies can earn more points, if everything is done the fastest way, etc...

Thanks for the "mis-aligned" info :) I just tried it with Sonic Triple Trouble on GameGear and found the "real" x position of Sonic. The one I used before was not very reliable: it was a 1 byte value that added 1 to yet another value each time it did a loop (at 256), and to make it even worse, under some circumstances it just randomly jumped to weird values... So I used the camera position when I could (and Sonic's onscreen x position sometimes), but it's not always possible ^^.

I see playarounds fitting well within that "tier" (or whatever we want to call it), the TASer simply plays with the game to make an entertaining/interesting movie, but still in a "humanly not possible" way. I think there should be some rules, but they can't be too strict; the acceptance for these kind of runs would depend a lot on the viewers' feedback, and it would be a case by case thing. But I think there should be a clear "end" to the run: Brain Training finishes one "minigame", ISS shows one match, this last Pokémon Yellow closes with a, hum, ending song... from MLP, and I did expect the River City Ransom playaround to finish the game. Buuuut again, this can't be an absolute rule: imagine if someones does a similar thing to this Pokémon run and instead of lauching a song with a picture, the program launched is a Space Invaders game (which is TASed too ^^)...

With the help of the Navi suggestion and the idea of "tutorial" in mind, I think about Kaepora Gaebora. Link's Awakening version: This needs color maybe.

I think the word "showcase" would work well for these movies.

This guide explains the STT signpost possibilities pretty well: http://soniccenter.org/guides/sonic_triple_trouble/guide287
It's not really accurate in fact, except for the rings part. If you can, try starting the first act, then lose a life, collect 5 rings, and you'll have a Sonic sign instead of a ring one. Another test, same act: collect 9 rings and the life near the end (in the water). You'll get a ring sign, and not the flicky one.

Wow, I am really looking forward to this. Great job so far, guys! Edit: Shucks, just read it will be an any%, not 100%. Oh well. Is the sign post picture random? I do not remember ever getting a Sonic before. All I remember was the flicky. If the sign is not random, how do you get Sonic, by getting the emerald box?
The sign is "random", yes, but as any random thing in games, it can be predicted or manipulated. After a bunch of tests, we can predict it because it depends on the number of lives and rings you have. But in fact there is at least another factor, I think it is the number of continues, because it just started not being predictable anymore after Meta Junglira (where a continue was gained). But in the end, since it's the ingame time that matters for this run, there is no need to care for the result because the timer stops right as Sonic touches the sign (even when it ends up being a sign that needs to be touched again). We can't afford to lose time to avoid or get some more rings/lives just to manipulate the sign ;)

Now it's time for Robotnik Winter act 2, this snowboard is nice in combination with not-so-accurate collision detection. Huge lags have been avoided thanks to that. Link to video

Ok, my turn. I'll take the example of Sonic Triple Trouble done with BizHawk, using 10 states (and bulletproof rerecording, which is an awesome feature). State 1 is for "ease of encode", I started to use it quite late in the run; this save is done just before the "act name" screen is displayed, so I can just load that at the end when I want to encode each new act separately before moving to the next one. State 2 is done at the exact first frame that accepts input, it's the beginning of the "real" TASing. I don't touch those two until I'm done with the current act. After that I use the others in order, before each important action (when I have to try multiple outcomes depending on the input frames and all). When I find the faster way to do one thing, I use the next state, but can come back to the previous ones if I think something can be changed there to gain speed later. Usually I use this until I hit state 9, then I go back to using state 3-4-5-6... To continue. If I discover that I can't go back far enough to change one thing, I just go in read only, reload 2 then play the movie until the part I want to change, save, go read+write and load... State 0 is used for comparison, it marks my best attempt after a series of actions (that includes multiple "minor" savestates). It's also the state that represents the end of an act, or the point at which I stop working in a middle of a level, to get back in action next time I launch the movie. Since I can always go back to any point using read only mode, overwriting some earlier states is not really a problem.

Au passage, merci, c'est grâce à 88mph que j'ai commencé à faire du TAS ^^ Translation: Ah thanks, now I've been spoiled for an incoming "Speed Game" episode :( (a french show about speedruns and TASes) More seriously, since I'm a mediocre encoder I can't help, except maybe by hinting to the IRC channel where you can have a faster answer with a bit of luck. And thanks, by the way, I started TASing because of "88mph" (the older version of Speed Game, but only focused on TASes).

I think a good start is to try with a platform game, or action, 2D preferably. I'd avoid RPG and games like that.

If I watched the right part, the word is "coiffure". You can translate it to "hairdo".
She pronounces it in a very "French-like" manner, but that's probably the word. (Is it pronounced like that in French?)
She prononces it quite correctly. Except the fact that she makes the "u" longer than normal, but it's to make it more... mannered, or "typical" (stereotypical) french sounding ^^

Poor, poor game... What did it do to you to deserve this?! It got punished multiple times in a row on this site and ended up lying down, hopeless, on the workbench for everyone to see it. I like it.

This can't be in the vault because of this:
Hacks are not eligible for this category, but unlicensed games are. We demand hacks with entertainment value, therefore should be judged by the Moon tier requirements.
So....anyone think this should be moon/star'd?
I wasn't entertained by the run. The ending song is fun, but it's part of the game, not the TAS (gameplay). The run doesn't make the game look easier, because it is already as easy as possible, and the corner boosting trick alone clearly doesn't add enough entertainment to push it in the moon category.

Japanese/US/PAL versions. If you want icons, there is quite an... Iconic game for that: The ingame ones: I don't know what can be done for PAL versions ^^
