I'm curious about how it failed at the time, and how it would work today. On paper that seems like a solution that fixes multiple problems at the same time (the best kind of solution). And I can't come up with a serious downside. As we've seen, people can interpret the "meh" differently (middle ground, don't care, etc...), numerical values don't have that problem. The other problem is that many movies don't have many ratings after being published. It can help here as well. Maybe it's just me (I'm pretty sure it's not :P ) but I can watch a TAS in the workbench, vote and comment, etc... but then afterwards I don't have the reflex to go and rate the publication. Especially because we have to wait for the movie to be published and can forget about it. Maybe it was due to a problem with how the site could handle it (or not handle it). Well... Elders, raise your hands if you have an answer!

Even if people know a lot about psychology and can list many cognitive biases, that doesn't make them immune to bias. It can help one try to avoid it to a certain extent, but that's all. Having a brain = having biases, it's part of how a brain works. Nach, you've made a claim about posts being ridiculous in the submission topic, but don't want to provide even one sample to demonstrate it. It's a dead end to the argumentation. Instead you simply talk about psychology and biases in general; that is not useful, except maybe to people that didn't know about some concepts. What I get from that is a claim that looks like a strawman (I mean when I write it like that): "people made ridiculous posts because psychology". Without examples, we can't agree or disagree, or even discuss properly. What if I say that maybe some people went out of their way to suppress some "positive" biases (confirmation bias for example, authority, etc...) to try and provide constructive criticism?

That part is interesting. For the votes in submissions here, I mean. Except the last sentence because there is only one poll per submission ^^. When you think about it, the site favors yes votes in general. Why? Simply because most people don't go watch each and every TAS, they choose which ones they want to watch, the ones they are interested in and they are most likely to like, and by extension, to vote yes for.

So I get criticism for "doing the best I can" or "showing as much interesting tricks in a TAS as possible". OK, that's new. It's true that (almost) every enemy that could be killed was killed, because I can't live with the guilt to let a poor enemy go free if I had the chance to kill it. You said it's predictable, but I bet you'll never know how exactly each enemy would be killed. I tried as much new and interesting ways of killing enemies as there is, and how to make the use of each enemy to the extreme. Also, I bet you weren't even sure which enemies belong to "could be killed" category until watching this run, since some of them are just really difficult to kill. It's true that every castle had music synchronization (except 3-4), and that's because castles tend to be boring since there are basically no enemy to kill. But what you didn't say is that each time I do music synchronization, I use a different beat, so you'll never know what beat I'm going to play. It's true that every boss (Bowser) was killed with fireballs (except the last one), but it sounds like you've never watched an SMB warpless TAS before.
The part you quoted was more or less just the introduction made with a couple of examples to better explain in the second part how I felt about the entertainment of the movie. Maybe I failed to express myself correctly. For example, the bosses killed with fireballs is something that can be "blamed" on the game, not on the authors, but it still contributes to the repetitiveness I got from watching. I won't try to explain again my opinion on the entertainment here. But at least I can say why I did that previous post. I saw the controversy, the reactions to it (including yours, of course), I didn't even watch MrWint's TAS. There's almost no doubt that some people voted meh or no because of it all, and not the run itself, we can agree on that. It obviously irked you, to the point of cancelling it for a while. But there are people that genuinely didn't find the run entertaining, it happens with every run. As someone who didn't vote at all because I'm torn between yes and meh, I thought that taking some time to detail why I wasn't as much entertained as you would have liked could be seen as constructive criticism. I tried as much as I could to not make it look harsh, but it was still taken as some kind of personal attack, as your reply looked like a counter-attack (see the parts that start with "I bet you..."). I think we can blame that on the "atmosphere" of this submission, and my timing was not the best to post, maybe. If the situation wasn't the same, I probably wouldn't have made the post, but my vote wouldn't become a yes. At least that's what I think, we can't experiment other timelines, sadly :P

My thoughts about the entertainment: I was not really entertained, at least not for more than a few levels. I'll try to explain why as well as I can. But first, I'm absolutely aware of all the hard work done in the run, including the work towards the entertainment. OK... I kind of got an overdose of "every". Every enemy that could be killed was killed. Every trick that was possible to do was done at every opportunity. Every boss was killed with fireballs (except the last one). Every time Mario could, he shot fireballs at everything, including enemies that can't be killed with it. And every fire breath from bowser/koopa was hit with a fireball or more, for example. Almost (combo breaker ^^) every castle had at least one part with Mario shooting according to the music. That's why I did find it predictable after a couple of levels, particularly from the moment the fire flower was taken. Predictable and relatively repetitive. There were some tricks that I liked, one off tricks and surprises, but they ended up mostly drowned in the rest for me. If you want an analogy, let's take an action movie. Imagine an action movie where every scene was an action scene where almost everything end up exploding at one point. It can be spectacular at first, but in the long run it becomes tiring and it loses its appeal, despite not decreasing in "entertainment quality". The problem is pacing and variety. And the "overdose" I spoke about earlier. In terms of variety, the TAS has it about the tricks used, but they are all mixed together every time they can be. In my view, it doesn't make the levels themselves varied. And that's what the pacing is about. It looked like you tried to add as much entertainment as possible in every part of the run at all costs, but it is not a recipe that works for me (for my tastes). I mean, if one thing can be entertaining (killing all enemies, shooting at everything for one level, etc), repeating it too much, particularly for the whole run, has the bad side effect of making it look boring in the end. In other words, if something is fun to watch, doing it again and again doesn't necessarily add fun each time, on the contrary, I think it dilutes fun. For examples of what I (myself, opinion, etc ^^) can find interesting, I could see some levels done without hurting enemies (but maybe getting close calls), some only with fireballs and others without any; maybe start the game "calmly" and then become gradually more and more crazy with moves and tricks during the run. That's different pacings to spice things up and create variety in the scope of the whole movie. I hope I was intelligible enough and that it is constructive. And also that it didn't sound harsh. I won't vote because I don't think it would be a yes and it's not close enough to a meh to me...

When I was a kid it was a big deal, because presents and stuff. Now it's like almost any normal day. Usually one or 2 members of my family wishes me a happy birthday, I say "thanks" and that's it. Except my nephews and niece (who are kids) did call me on the phone this year to sing "happy birthday" to me (destroying my right ear in the process), then I joked with them and it was funny. For other people's birthday... Nothing much, I say "happy birthday" too if I don't forget. Last year I used a birthday as an occasion (you could say an excuse, or an opportunity, etc) to send a present that I wanted to do for a long time to a great friend of mine, though =^.^=

I'm not a judge, so I'll use a question to share what I think about the password thing. If the game displays said password during the run, would resetting afterwards and then entering it be considered like something close to a "save and quit" strategy?

Great topic, what I find interesting is how people discover those glitches. Sometimes it's pure luck while playing casually, or by forcing luck a little by doing weird stuff. And sometimes it's by actively looking for a glitch, having some hints that something weird will probably happen in some circumstances. Let's see, what did I discover... I think the biggest is clipping through the floor with the "pipe machines" in Sonic Advance. (here: https://youtu.be/4tv5gyAlkRs?t=740). When you think about it, it's just the application of an already known glitch, but in a place where it has not been done before (it was already present in other runs, using another level device, here: https://youtu.be/4tv5gyAlkRs?t=286). The funny part is that I wasn't trying to apply the known glitch elsewhere to find that one, I was "just playing" with the collision of the pipe thing hoping to enter it maybe a frame sooner, with a jump or something else... And the glitch happened ^^. Another one in Sonic Advance, but it's more like an exploit. With Amy you have a "whirlwind attack" in the air, which happens to instantly reset the horizontal speed to zero. By using it quickly after hitting a diagonal bumper, you can use it to cancel the horizontal push and only gain height. It was used to take very useful shortcuts (a good example, and where I did the discovery: https://youtu.be/4tv5gyAlkRs?t=711). This one I was actively looking for it, or in other words, I did think about the properties of the move and the layout of the level, then I've found a way to create the shortcut. I don't remember seeing it in speedruns before my discovery, and at the same time I find it strange. I mean, when you know how that move works, it's not that big of a leap to use it in special ways like this. Someone correct me if it was actually a thing before the first Amy TAS :P It's hard to tell for every glitch or trick if you're the first one to find it, but that doesn't remove the satisfaction of discovering it by yourself. I did find some glitches in other games, like Sonic Triple Trouble or Donkey Kong on GameBoy (aka "DK 94"), but no practical use for most of them. Edit: ah, more recently there was Zookman ZX4, I did get some minor glitches, but anyone who played the game did find many glitches by just playing casually without even trying :D (the biggest glitches are anoher story)

C'est vrai, j'ai commencé à la traduire sur un coup de tête en me disant que le fait de la traduire me serai utile.
Dans tous les cas ça fait une page supplémentaire qui est traduite, c'est toujours ça de pris. Je dis ça parce qu'en relisant mon post, on peut penser que je me plains ou chaispasquoi ^^.

J'ai relu aussi et corrigé les fautes trouvées. Littéralement, j'ai quasiment pas cherché à vérifier la fidélité de la traduction, juste de la correction bête et méchante :P Enfin bon, ça me semblait quand même bien compréhensible à priori. Et surtout, je pense que c'est pas une page essentielle à avoir en français, vu que ceux qui voudraient devenir publisher doivent sûrement maîtriser assez l'anglais, rien que pour la communication avec les autres membres du staff par exemple. Je le note ici, en plus du commentaire laissé dans le chat de la page, j'ai vu des tirets que je trouve superflus vers la fin de la ligne 146. J'y ai pas touché mais il faudra vérifier s'ils sont bien nécessaires avant de valider.

If I understand correctly (correct me if I'm wrong, etc), the dilemma is that both SMB versions are too similar and not the same game at the same time. -they're too similar but can't obsolete each other -they're not the same game but can't be published as separate games So, if a PAL game has to be published, can it ever be as an any% if an NTSC version exists and has the same features (same levels, enemies, gameplay)? The only option is to have different content and aim for another category? (or being created in PAL first)

Voilà, je suis repassé sur Movie Rules. Piratepad est gentil, le bénéfice du doute pour un foirage c'est bien, mais il a recommencé à déconner, même quand j'ai tenté de recréer une version de ce texte dessus, donc pastebin. Movie Rules Je me répète carrément, mais il ne faut pas hésiter à critiquer ou discuter même des petits détails. Par exemple j'ai mis Super Game Boy au masculin, parce que... Bah c'est comme ça que je le sens, je me dis que c'est "un" accessoire SNES ^^. J'ai transformé tous les "movie file" en "fichier movie". Autre exemple, j'ai fait un subtil changement: "Genesis / Megadrive" est devenu "Megadrive / Genesis", simplement parce que je pense que la majorité des francophones connaissent avant tout la console sous le nom de Megadrive. C'est du mini détail, mais ça donne un exemple sur "l'importance" des points qu'on peut critiquer et discuter.

Without taking damage: nope. Just because of stage 15, for example. There is that bone pillar on top of the stairs. Critical hits are not essential either, but I don't think this run would have been published without them (if they didn't exist, I mean). Without hitting Igor: why not? I'm pretty sure it's possible, and not too hard in a TAS. By the way, there is also a scythe that is hit against Death, and a snake apparently dies in the Medusa fight (hard to see).

Je suis repassé sur Guidelines, ce qui ne laisse que Movie Rules qui n'a pas encore eu de relecture complète, si je me plante pas. Mais ça veut pas dire qu'on n'a pas besoin de relire ce qui a déjà été traduit et corrigé, n'hésitez pas à revoir les autres pages. Je m'adresse à tous ceux qui tomberont sur ce post (oui, même toi, là. Je t'ai vu!). Toutes les aides, petites remarques ou conseils sont utiles.

En gros, choisis ton homonyme... Au moins on peut faire des jeux de mots avec les deux. Pour l'écriture, euh... je penche en fait plus pour "TASeur" dans le contexte d'une traduction comme on fait. Et pourtant je favoriserais "speedrunner" au lieu de "speedrunneur", encore un petit paradoxe. Mais bon, "TASer" me fait moins tilter dans ma tête que "un run", je n'ai pas une préférence trop appuyée pour "TASeur".

Effectivement, je pense qu'il faudrait déjà définir ce qu'est le Movie, ce qu'il englobe etc. Et comme tu le soulignes, le Movie et le fichier Movie, c'est encore autre chose. D'où encore une fois mon questionnement sur la pertinence ou non d'un lexique - généralisé - et - multilingue - etc ou non
Je pense que le souci du mot "movie" se pose aussi en anglais, enfin le fait qu'il puisse désigner plusieurs choses, du fichier d'inputs jusqu'à une publication entière sur le site. Au final ça fait que mon avis est de l'éviter en le remplaçant quand on peut, selon le sens dont il se rapproche le plus dans le contexte: TAS, fichier movie, publication... Et comme souvent en traduction, on peut toujours tenter d'éviter certains termes qui posent problème en reformulant les phrases. Tout ne peut pas être traduit en restant proche du mot pour mot, surtout avec autant de termes spécifiques au TAS qui n'ont pas d'équivalent en français.

Y'a aussi le coup du genre à choisir pour les mots anglais, ce qui est entre le subjectif et l'usage qu'on entend et qui s'est plus ou moins implanté (en gros y'a pas vraiment de règle). Par exemple avec lapogne on est tous les deux de l'école "un speedrun/TAS" et "une run". Quand on s'y penche de près ça fait pas cohérent (speedrun et run ont comme qui dirait une racine commune)... Pourtant c'est comme ça qu'on les "sent", à cause de l'usage ou autres facteurs. Je sais qu'il y a des gens qui disent "un run" (j'ai jamais entendu "une speedrun"), il y a plus de cohérence mais ça me semble minoritaire à vue de nez. Pour moi c'est une question qui n'a pas de réponse définitive. Par contre j'ai de quoi argumenter contre ceux qui veulent mettre certaines machines au masculin, comme la Game Boy ou la Gamecube :P Après il y a le choix de traduire certains termes en français et d'en laisser d'autres en anglais. De tout ce que j'ai corrigé, j'ai rien vu qui m'a gêné je crois; par exemple le terme "input" qui bouge pas, l'encodage est très bien en français, etc... Ah si, il y a le coup des "rerecord emulators", où je pense que c'est difficile d'en proposer une traduction (que je trouve) "présentable" tout en ayant du mal à voir comment laisser le terme "rerecord" dans l'expression. Mais ma position en général, c'est que ça fait pas de mal de laisser beaucoup des termes en anglais, en tout cas ceux qui reviennent très souvent dans le milieu du TAS/speedrun, quitte à expliquer ou traduire ponctuellement dans une parenthèse. Après tout, même dans la zone francophone des forums ici, on utilise plein de termes anglais. C'est l'univers du TAS, je pense pas qu'il faille épargner ces termes aux nouveaux venus parce qu'ils se retrouveront perdus une fois dans le cœur du sujet avec d'autres TASeurs. Hop, transition magique pour la prochaine personne à poster: plutôt TASer ou TASeur? ^^ (j'ai bien sûr déjà mon opinion) Edit: pour le "movie" changé en "TAS", je pense que ça dépend du contexte. Le but est de traduire de l'anglais vers le français, et dans certains cas, ce remplacement ne change pas le sens du message tout en étant plus facile à lire. Le terme "movie" est parfois hyper compliqué à traduire, déjà, mais il faudrait au minimum parler de "fichier movie" si on veut le garder. A mon avis, hein.

In the list of well known games, there is a recent TAS that managed to beat the old one that was considered extremely solid: [3492] NES Castlevania by Challenger in 11:19.03 ...and the minimalist pacifist run from that guy, I don't remember the name, but it was suggested once in the past and rejected by the GDQ staff. But maybe their standards have changed for acceptance this time.

Bah, moi je trouve ça très pratique pour modifier en direct tout en sachant ce qui a changé et tout et tout. On a juste pas eu de bol sur une page (je sais pas pourquoi, bug du site?), les autres ça a bien marché. Ne supprime pas les pages restantes de piratepad, je pense que je vais continuer dessus, sauf si c'est pas pratique pour d'autres raisons que cet incident. Pour info, la page a commencé à me déconnecter dès les premières corrections que j'y apportais, jusqu'à ce qu'elle disparaisse définitivement, donc c'était visible du "départ" qu'il y avait un souci, j'avais juste pensé que c'était le site entier qui déconnait, mais non.

Dans les textes des liens de lapogne, les parties en anglais déjà traduites sont enlevées, j'ai fait pareil après avoir fait les deux ou trois parties qu'il n'avait pas touchées (au milieu du reste déjà traduit). Les textes d'origine sont toujours dispos sur les pages du site de toute façon; j'avais la page originale correspondante ouverte à côté quand j'ai relu ce qu'il avait déjà traduit, en cas de doute et pour vérifier vite fait si ça collait, même si je me focalisais principalement sur la correction.
