For the record, I see absolutely no reason to dismiss or change the established TAS of the year and none of these arguments have convinced me otherwise. My vote, for what it's worth, is to keep TAS of the year.

I do think SNES and N64 should be separate categories.

Voted meh. I love the idea, but as soon as I realized you'd be wasting the clock in every single level I realized how insane it is. It's just not very entertaining to sit through you literally wasting time for 8 levels.

No. Only one of the levels was impressive. The rest looked sloppy and very improvable.

mmarks encode isn't as nice-looking but the sound syncs up perfectly. The official YouTube encode is badly out-of-sync. Edit: Scratch that. Mmarks' part two is out-of-sync as well. :/ Nice work, Marzo. The Launch Base part was great. Edit x2: Screw the Launch Base... Sandopolis 2 was amazing!

Definite yes. I find a lot of Mortal Kombat runs run out of funny stuff before they reach Shao Khan. Nice work keeping it interesting right up to the very end.

The audio is way out of sync to me when I watch this on archive.org. Is the downloadable mp4 better?

Wow! After watching 1-1 alone I think it looks way better than the non-hard mode version. All those enemies you plow past. Very very cool. Edit: Watched the whole thing. Yes vote.

Man, who voted no? There's no justice. Anyway, this was amazing. Aside from skipping ALL TEMPLES, I loved how you played a bomb like an ocarina. That alone was worth the hour.

What causes Alucard to shout "What!?" I've never heard him do that when playing normally.

In World 1 I noticed a couple of odd choices. Subtitles say that the hammer brothers are manipulated but later they say the hammer brother is unavoidable. So why waste frames manipulating him if you can't avoid him? Also, it's mentioned that getting three cards of the same type is bad, which is why you get a flower card as the second card. But the third card is a flower too. Why manipulate the second card if the third isn't going to be a star anyway?

Using the power of emulator tools to max out score though is far more interesting. (And frankly, a welcome change from the usual frame wars. I'm much more in favor of "Tool Assisted Superplays" than "Tool Assisted Speedruns."
So am I, which is why I don't like runs like this that are speed-oriented to the point of them being boring. It's just "Hah, I beat it before all of you guys. Now to wait and do nothing for 40 seconds" rather than making something interesting of it.
(Come to think of it though, if there was a significantly similar run on SDA, I'd agree that this should not be published.)
I don't know, this kind of sounds like you solidifying my point. I don't think a run should be published purely as a demonstration of a game. A TAS has to be impressive as a TAS, not just "Hey, you guys probably haven't heard of this game, so here it is." And it sounds like you're saying that if another site had a demonstration of this game that would fit the same purpose even without tools.

Why are so many of the "yes" comments a variation of: "This game was cool/funny/weird so I liked it"? The point to a TAS isn't to demonstrate the game. That's what longplays are for. A TAS is for doing something new and interesting with the game. Just showing off how cool the game is to begin with doesn't make for a good TAS.

This feels strangely unoptimized to me. Maybe it's fast, but some parts have this weird feel to them like it was slower than it had to be. Like the part with the two giant jumping fish, the character stops, then launches herself towards a door when it sort of looks like it would be faster to just run straight. I'm not voting because I don't feel I understand the game mechanics enough to be able to make an informed decision.

I'm voting no. I just don't understand the point to TASing this. You complete all your tasks super-fast but the computer opponents slow everything down. I know that you manipulated them into going faster but it still doesn't make it entertaining for me.

I liked it. I think maybe it would have worked better as a playaround though.

Mild yes vote. I like the game and I liked the improvement. Kind of repetitive to watch, but nicely optimized.

Hmm. This could be really useful for a playaround run too. I can think of nothing funnier than wielding dual weapons where neither makes sense to hold one-handed. Could someone provide details about how this glitch is achieved? Edit: Nevermind. I found some useful FAQs.

Make sure you do the Aztec and Egypt levels too.
That might prove difficult. I decided there's more potential for comedy if I play on Agent skill. It's a bit hard to explain why. Let's just say there are less stringent mission requirements that allow me to be more abusive to the concept of the game. For example, I'm not punished as severely for killing scientists and I can destroy equipment that would otherwise be important to the mission.

Well, if no one else is doing anything, I'm tempted to do a playaround. I'm sure this game has loads of potential for a funny goofy playthrough.

Limne: Very good answer. :) And thanks for the comment. I'm glad you didn't take offence to my innocent remark.

You have a good point. I'm not one to usually just believe everything I hear. I should do some research into this.

If a billionaire spent $20k every day, he'd run out of money in 137 years. This is of course assuming that he doesn't do anything with that money; if it were invested at a 3% annual interest rate (which is absolutely pathetic), he'd be gaining $6 million every year, or $165k every day. So, spending money at that rate isn't likely to be a problem for him.
That wasn't my point. Spending $20k a day isn't a problem if that's all you spend, but if you're willing to spend that much money on a TAS what else are you going to spend money? Why do most people who win the lottery end up going bankrupt? Because they're not used to managing large amounts of money. When you have a lot of money there's lots and lots of pressure to spend it all on frivolous things and most people who are not used to that kind of lifestyle tend to overspend until it's all gone. Even a billion dollars can be spent if you're not careful.

If ever I should become an eccentric billionaire overnight I'd easily put a good 20k on seeing the Secret of Mana run finally being completed. *Sigh* Wouldn't having money be grand?
If that's the sort of decisions you'd make, I don't think you'd be a billionaire for long.
