Voted no on the grounds that "Grue's Grue Publication Grue" doesn't have enough Grue in the title.

Mukki's very well thought out and reasoned argument has thoroughly convinced me. I am voting no.

That sounds completely pointless.

Hah. While I was editing that message two more people posted. That's a first.

Interesting that you say that right after an RPG won TAS of the year. There are lots of ways to make an RPG TAS entertaining, but it takes a lot of experimentation and creativity. Personally, I think it would be fun to do a TAS of an RPG where you avoid all enemies and go straight to the final boss at level 1 and luck manipulate to avoid taking any damage. Sort of like Zelda 2 or Castlevania: CotM, I guess.

I think that would be a good idea, though I'm not particularly adamant. If you'd prefer to just make the Chrono Trigger run the winner, I'm fine with that.

Is there some way I can track that? Is there a memory address I can watch that tells me when I can do it?

Okay, I could use some help here. I discovered something by accident and I'm trying to recreate it with zero success. Billy's kick combo (three kicks if you have two hearts or more) ends with a roundhouse kick when his enemy is stunned. Or so it's thought. I've found numerous circumstances when you can perform the roundhouse without having to do two kicks beforehand. At one point I was able to throw two roundhouses in a row at the same target. I can't figure out how I was able to do this before. Every attempt to recreate it has failed. Does anyone have a good knowledge of the game and how this system works that can help me figure out what causes this? I still have a backup of the movie where I was able to do this, but there's a lot of stuff I decided to cut out for being too long and boring. I'd prefer not to use that movie file and instead just recreate the circumstances in something tighter and funnier.

Not when you're used to watch them this way. :-P
It's still boring. Who wants to watch a TAS where you don't actually see what's going on? This is my only real complaint. The stuff you guys have been working on is phenomenal, and having to watch the floor for large chunks of time just ruins the experience.

I'd also point out that many Atari 2600 games don't have an actual ending so we'd be fairly limited for what games can be TASed. Off the top of my head, Adventure and Pitfall II would work and I can't think of anything else.

Okay, I'm sorry but I am getting super sick of watching people do Goldeneye runs where they look at the floor the whole time. Is this just to reduce lag? It makes it really annoying to watch.

Why is that against the rules? Is everyone else using the PAL version?

I think I've concluded that the most pointless game to TAS is Duck Hunt. 1. Assuming you can even record the light gun input as part of the run, every single time a duck appears it would immediately die. There'd be no difficulty in all setting them up. 2. The levels keep going forever. 3. It would be totally boring to watch.

I've chosen not to vote. I don't really find this to be a very entertaining game to TAS. Maybe I'd enjoy it more if I played the game more thoroughly, but after a couple of levels the run does get very repetitive. I could have just voted meh, but I thought that might not be fair due to my lack of experience with the game, and especially since this would likely obsolete existing runs.

For the record, I second the notion of awarding silver trophies.
I do too, but I think only for this category. Many categories did not have a whole lot to choose from. This is the best of the best so I think it's reasonable to have a second place.

Of course not. All runs are the same. Everyone is special. We all understand your mentality of not truly awarding anybody, because of jealousy that may ensue.

I've been wanting to do a TAS of Phantom 2040 for years now, but I have major desync issues with it. They seem to be more severe in 1.51 than in 1.43 so I'm a little hesitant to just switch over completely to the new version.

Might as well post what I have: http://www.heisanevilgenius.com/X-Men.gmv I wasn't aware of the Juggernaut skip and I'm pretty sure there are one or two places that can be done better (like the level 1 boss). Just thought I'd get the ball rolling.

FODA sort of raises another point. What about runs with multiple authors? The authors might add duplicate versions of the run not knowing a co-author already did so.

I was working on this game for a little bit a while ago and then forgot about it or gave up. I just noticed this thread today and am frustrated that none of the WIP links for the first level seem to work so I have nothing to compare to. Does anyone have a WIP they can show off? I think I did a reasonable job at this, but I get the feeling someone probably found a way to be faster.
