Yeah, I know, I know. This is a really bizarre game to TAS. I honestly can't decide if I should try it, so I thought I'd just ask to see if it would have any kind of place here. The idea wouldn't be a simple speedrun because that's kind of too easy and boring. I think what would be a bit more of a challenge and possibly more interesting is a run with the following objective: Earn as much money as is possible while spending as much money as possible on Prisila's constant demands. Some minor luck manipulation would be required to begin with, but it seems all the stocks are preset once the game actually begins. The challenge would be luck manipulating so you get the most money in the crucial first few days and allow you to skyrocket your money earlier. After that, there are lots of tricks you can use to build more wealth. For instance, the game allows you to take out a loan to buy something you'd be otherwise unable to afford. But a crafty use of this is to take out a loan where you only pay 3% interest after a month, and spend it all buying stocks which often pay you 5% or higher in a single day. It sounds like it would be interesting to see just how much you can abuse this game, but at the same time it's probably not going to be very entertaining to see a TAS of a guy buying stocks unless the game is beaten so fast it makes your head spin. Thoughts?

Hah. I know it's cheesy. I had to use the C in "cya" because there's a C in telescope.

I tried and I can't even match your time to the first gunship. I thought I figured out the most optimal way to spin jump and slide all the way, but in your run you get there at frame 1104 and my best time is 1106. We both start the first jump at the same frame, so it's not like you somehow beat me during the "Press start" portions. I think we'll need to work together on this, as I'm pretty lost. :p

That was certainly impressive. I loved how you took out the two first bosses simultaneously with four swipes.

Does the game add wrong at the end or does it just not count past 200?
It doesn't count past 200.

I think the Hall family was upset with your choice of words in the first round.
Actually I think a fun concept is that the game's judges were racially motivated. The white family says nothing but nonsense but they always win anyway. The black family doesn't even get a single word in. Just look at their stunned disbelief.

Speaking of Double Dragon 2, I discovered a trick for a 2 player run that doesn't seem to have been used. Probably should have spoken up earlier. At the beginning of the first level after the first enemies are defeated and it tells you you can move on, one player can knee the other player through the right side of the screen and it causes it to scroll much faster than if the players walk. I don't know how feasible this is, but it seemed to save me some time when I tried it.

Liked it. Definitely a weird movie... Speaking of weird, there's something weird with the sound in that MP4. Most noticeable in the ending. The musical instruments randomly disappear from the theme, as though there was a shortage of channels, which there most definitely should not be (8 channels after all). The SPC file of the title theme is without problem...
I believe that's a flaw with the Snes9x engine, not the encoding. I'm told it sounds better in ZSNES.

Definitely a laugh riot. The only possible complaint I can come up with is that I could barely read the questions before the answer was typed out (I watched the encoded version). Maybe next time you could pause for a sec before answering the first time? Other than that it was great, we need more TAS movies like this.
Yeah, I was considering that. For the first three rounds, it's not so much a problem and the first answer is intentionally meant to interrupt before the question is asked in order to blurt something nonsensical like "Oops I pressed it" For the last round, there really isn't any time to read the questions. Should I redo that part? I wouldn't have to luck manipulate anymore so it would be easy to fix.

I just realized I forgot to warn about coarse language. Maybe not a big deal, but a warning might be helpful.

I stopped working on the glitchfest version a while ago, but I did come up with a lot of good stuff. My objective besides absolutely ruining the word detection was to get the most number of answers per round so there's more opportunity with tampering. Sort of the opposite of my other run. I'll post back in a bit when I have some progress. Edit: Actually, I'm done. http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7695

I just took a look at your run and noticed you're spamming the start button. Quick tip: Don't do that. :p If you press start every alternate frame, you'll eventually get it within one frame of the earliest opportunity. But if you just frame advance and play around with it you can almost as easily figure out the exact frame you need to hit start and only press it once. I'll try a frame and if it doesn't work, I'll try a frame later on, and keep going until it works, then backtrack and try an earlier frame to see if it works, and slowly narrow it down. It's really not that hard. Optimizing the actual gameplay is much harder. Otherwise, your run looks to be a huge improvement over Dark Fulgore's, and you definitely have worked out a lot of stuff I haven't. Seems like all I can really do to improve is some minor boss-related stuff.

This game is remarkably easy to optimize. Most of the game is holding down one button for a while. Usually L or R. Very few parts need to be frame-precise. I've sliced off 143 more frames off my run. You can take a look at the newest version here: http://www.heisanevilgenius.com/Heisanevilgenius_Hagane-WIP3.smv 1-1 and 1-2 are now as optimal as I can figure.

I redid 1-2 and beat my old time by 16 frames. Dark Fulgore's slide trick really helped out. I did quite a bit of testing and seemed to have found the optimal use of it. I also spent some time optimizing the boss battle as much as possible, but I'm not sure I beat my original time. I know I at least matched it, though. Edit: Ugh! Somehow I forgot to press start during the "LEVEL 1-2" screen all this time. That means I'm probably going to have to redo it again.

I'm fairly well convinced 1-1 is optimal. 1-2, however, I know I can optimize further with the wall jumping. That part's tricky to get just right.

I give this a mild yes vote because it's interesting and cute. But it's really long, and that kind of ruins the fun. I lose all the enthusiasm for the run after a few levels and several times I almost fell asleep (although that's probably just my lack of sleep causing it) I can't watch the whole run in one sitting.

His time is extremely close to mine, so far. It's hard to tell without actually using the smvs as guidelines. His run also makes some strange choices. I guess it's not necessary to destroy all the turrets on the gunship, but in my opinion it's a lot more fun to watch the character destroy everything rather than just slide around. I do notice he made a nice use of the slide on 1-2 which is probably faster than what I did.

I'd worked on a Hagane run before and kind of moved on to other things, but I decided to get back to work on it. I managed to beat Tiger's run of 1-1 by 2 frames, and managed to do it in style. This game was made for a TAS. It's super hard and there's about a hundred different moves you can do so you can be stylish as you kill tons of bad guys who come at you from every direction at once. So naturally, I experimented with lots of cool tricks, and still managed to beat it as optimally as I was able to determine. Due to one minor optimization, plus analyzing the boss HP on the RAM map, and then testing the various attacks and the amounts of damage they do to him, I managed to save 228 frames over Tiger's run in 1-2. That's as far as I've gotten. You can watch the SMV here: http://www.heisanevilgenius.com/Heisanevilgenius_Hagane-WIP.smv

I've cancelled this submission because I discovered room for improvement in the final round. Will resubmit improvement at a later time.

I understand if this isn't the most entertaining run in the world, but thought it might make for an interesting concept demo. I'm working on another run meant to showcase how you can abuse the bizarre word recognition program.

I finished the time attack and submitted it. http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7448 I'm also going to work on a glitchfest type meant to abuse the word recognition as much as possible, since I think that would be much more entertaining.

I decided to give this a try. As crazy as it sounds, there actually is something to it. The biggest time waster is waiting after inputting your answer for the suspenseful "yes" or "no", so it's important that each round has the smallest number of answers. So far, I've experimented and managed to luck manipulate so the first round uses five answers (which is the minimum). I also luck manipulated the computer to pick the family name which is the smallest because the time it takes the computer to pick out their name is a time-waster too. And finally, the program that recognizes words is pretty crazy so it's possible to punch in misspellings and completely wrong words to still get the right answer. I've seen videos where it interprets "cup of urine" as coffee, "pornography" as soda, and "the hairs from my crack" as "tears". Just studying these, I worked out how the system works. It looks for correct letters in the correct order and it doesn't matter if there are any letters in between. You can also use single letters in place of double letters. Cup OF urinE = COFE = COFFEE POrnograPhy = POP = SODA It also doesn't pay attention to spaces. So if the answer was, say, "Smelly beef" I could simply type "SMELYBEF" and it would accept it. So, although this isn't as complicated as Monopoly, there's some glitch/luck manipulation that can go a long way. Is there any chance something like this could get accepted?

Very nicely done. I'm especially impressed with some of the swinging optimizations and how quickly you busted down the door in the first stage. It's interesting to see that Vulture is still a bitch to optimize. I wonder if eventually someone can find a faster way to get rid of him. After reading your submission guidelines, I'm curious. I didn't notice many instances of saving time from the landing animations. Did you find some kind of a workaround? For instance, when those zombies throw axes at you in Hobgoblin's stage, I tried to time my jump so I'd get hit right as I land to cancel some of the landing animation. I noticed immediately the green block mysteriously disappeared in Sandman's level. Did you plan that, or was it completely by accident? That's pretty great.

I obviously didn't intend an entire season. Just one game. Are there any known glitches that can be exploited?
